Politics – Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) has just released a series of emails from the Department of Commerce that suggest that Bush officials "tried to suppress a federal scientist from discussing the link between global warming and hurricanes."
Scientist have never found the missing link for evolution; we study it anyway as a valuable theory. Hurricanes increasing, tsunamies, katrina, florida weather destructions every year, scientific proofs of glaciers melting, animals unusual migrating patterns, unusual weather all over the world compare to years ago...but no this has no sinificance or relation to human constant pollution. If only people did not flaunt their ignorance so boldly, many in this world would still be alive. If it is not true, why not allow the scientist to talk freely. It is their poragative to actually sound educated on the subject if they choose. Global warming is real.

Checked out the book you mentioned and turns out its dramatized novel. Do you really think that their is some general consensus among the scientific community to scare the hell out of people by overstating and manipulating data which proves the earth has been warming and is accelerating with no signs of regression. Do you understand what the green house effect is? I really hope that global warming isn't true but I also have respect for the scientific process and so far the overall consensus on global warming has not been in our favor. The only people saying it isn't true have some sort of financial interest in opposing it.
Global warming is a theory looking for a cause. Before 1100 Greenland was so warm that the Vikings could grow wheat there. Why was it warm then? Certainly not greenhouse gases caused by all the autos and industry. Why did it then get so cold that the Baltic Sea froze solid from Sweden to Denmark every winter for decades? Were the sea levels higher before 1100?
Is it possible that the Earth naturally warms and cools in long periodic cycles and that Man has very little to do with it?
Considering the source of the allegation of suppression, I find it hard to give it any credence. Waxman is just another Leftist Democrat with a big mouth.

Anyway, Taganan made a very good point. The earth's temperature has changed drastically more than once in the history of man, and several times before that, all before the industrial revolution. I'm sure that jaxguy is correct, that we are no helping things; however, man's contributions in greenhouse gasses are nothing compared to what are produced naturally.
I also enjoy how global warming was blamed for all the hurricanes last year... but for some reason, there was nothing like that this year, despite doomsday-like predictions of a horrible hurricane season. But then again, we DO still have 10 weeks left to the hurricane season, so they can always hope....
Here is some things to ponder; if there were no global warming at all your butts would probably be under a glacier right now. Also everytime a volcano erupts it puts out many times the amount of "greenhose" gasses than that all of what man has created throughout the entire industrial revolution to date. So tell me how are you going to regulate volcano eruptions?

A long time ago, before global warming was an issue, I read an article about a study of tree rings. It said that our climate slowly cools and warms on a regular basis. This creates mini ice ages and global warming. According to this study, the temperatures peaked in the late 1800's and has been slowly dropping. They predicted that it should bottom out in 2010 or so, and then slowly start rising. Does anyone else remember this study? If that old study is correct, then why is the Earth getting warmer?
The interesting thing about smog is that it is only in certain cities and areas. LA, certain cities in China... I'm not sure where else. Yet there are many other cities with as high and as concentrated of industry and car traffic that don't experience smog.
Also, I never denied that there is pollution, I said that global warming is primarily a natural occurance. In fact, I think at one point I specifically DID note that various types of pollution exists and are a problem. It's just not the doomsday scenario that many Global Warming proponets claim.

When you follow the links, the administration didn't "block the scientist from discussing the linl between hurricanes and global warming", it apparently just didn't interview him. When you follow the links to the scientific page, it states the evidence is inconclusive, so who's really spinning what here?
Besides that, I remember being told quite earnestly when I was a kid (in the late 60's -- early 70's) that by the year 2000, the earth would be so overpopulated that we would be starving to death, but that would only be if our gas masks were working because the air would be way too polluted to breathe and the water too foul to drink. We would be frozen and immobile because every drop of oil on the planet would be long gone by the early 1990's.
Also, if Al Gore is SO convinced that we are doomed unless we make drastic changes right now, why he is maintaining not one, but two large homes and arriving at his global warming lectures in a private jet?
