Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obvious

  Too bad those embassy guys have nice soft jobs! A lot of our guys would've liked to have met him and gotten his autograph. As a Vietnam "Combat" Vet and Silver Star Recipient - he's recieved and fired more rounds than all of those compound troops - goes to show what they know. Our ODAs would've liked to have talked to him. Respect.

      Please know that the vast majority of those serving now have the same opinion of Kerry as Beef Jerky. As far as most are concerned he lost his "brother" status the day he started his political career (day he came back), as far as his awards.......There is a reason you can not sign off on your own paperwork for medals and awards anymore...Men like him.

        As a former Marine, I can't say that I blame any of the troops for not wanting to be seen with John Kerry. Whether you agree with the current war or not is irrelevant. What is important to the Marines, Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen that are serving their country is to know that they are at least supported by the politicians that may fall within their chain of command.
        John Kerrys' conduct, both past and present, in my opinion is questionable at best. Finally, he does not deserve the attention from the troops that he desires. One thing that is important to know about the members of the service is once trust in another is lost it is rare that it is ever regained.
        This is from my recent post. I have no affiliation with Christalline, but I just wanted to share my opinion with you.

        Palama - Yes, I agree that that statement needs to be backed up. I'm curious though about why you think Kerry's Vietnam protest days were a bad thing. Isn't that the freedom we're supposedly trying to uphold around the world? Right or wrong, I would imagine he felt duty-bound to say what he did and that it took a lot of courage to stand up for what he believed in such a high pressure environment. It certainly took a lot more guts than our little blog!

        Not true! Obviously you have never served! And supporting guys like beff jerk off, puts you into the catagory of insulting all our Silver Star and for that matter all medal recipients by trying to assume (putting ass before u and me)or assuming that recieved their medals before John Kerry came along.
        As a Vietnam "Combat" Vet, I was ******ed off at Kerry until I realized what he was all about. I can assure you that all those who have been assigned and were assigned those "missions" know what he was trying to do. We didn't all agree, but we know what that brother was trying to say.         Kerry caused no one to be tortured when he told Congress his views. It is an American citizen's obligation to act on his or her convictions and Kerry carried out his obligation.
        The problem the right-wing has with Kerry is solely based on their love of war and the use of military might to resolve issues with other nations. The right-wing is absolutely authoritarian as their love of a unitary president attests. The right-wing is better suited to living in a Stalinesque state than a democracy. The right-wing uses democracy as a means to destroy it from within, to create an authoritarian state, where opposing views are conrolled.

        You cannot be legitimately ordered to commit war crimes, crimes against humanity, or act against the Geneva Convention. Military personnel can refuse such orders. Kali committed war crime and should have been prosecuted for them as should anyone who directed him to commit them. Kali was not stabbed in the back.
        Kerry spoke up as he saw fit. He did so as an Ameerican citizen. You right-wing idiots love the troops until you disagree with them.

        "Cool Hand Luke" had a Silver Star; I just read the book. John Kerry isn't as Cool as Luke. In fact, Kerry is about as uncool as a human bean can get.         Apart from serving or where you stand on the Vietnam war itself you should all know one thing, it was Kennedy that got us involved..period... My dad was in Korea and was one of the units assigned to scout the Country of Vietnam and report back on the findings. Well they were all negative. The report stated it was all jungle no roads and no infrastructure at all. No reason to fight for that country at all. Now did Kennedy listen NO..NO ..NO ... I don't think he even looked at the reports if he had we would have never been there in the first place. Put the blame where it belongs another screwed up attempt at trying to make the U.S the police of the world with the Democrats at the helm. Why oh why does everyone think this guy was such a great president... anyone from Mass. will tell you they were nothing but crooks in the same line of work as Al Capone, one goes to jail and the other has a son elected president how screwed up is that ?

    O'Neil is a bitter man that never got over the Viet Nam disaster. He hated Kerry for telling the truth in public. There were many more V.N. vets that agreed with Kerry but had no way to express it. The men that actually served with Kerry support his medal. Bush was AWOL, refused a drug test, lost his pilots licence and went back to the bottle and cocain.Bush refused to volunteer for VietNam and you have the brainless gall to critisize a man that went as a volunteer.... Bush etc. all opted out. Clinton didn't go but he at least publicly protested that murderous war.

    Kerry served and Bush failed to fulfill any of his service commitments even though his pop got him out of harm's way. ABC news went to Vietnam and interviewed ex-Viet Cong who fought against Kerry and they corroborated Kerry's story and the official military records. Kerry earned his medals and Bush earned our contempt.
    This story provides abasolutely no proof that it is true and from a link to right-wing hack sites indicates it is a lie. Anyone can post a photo and make up a story about it. It would be nice if Netscape would require a modicum of truth to any story it allows to be posted.

The TRUTH is that Bush completely fulfilled his National Guard service requirements, and was a trained combat pilot. One does not become trained to fly a jet fighter, especially one known to have control problems, by dodging service or by being stupid.

        Bush completed nothing except the hiding of his record. Viet Nam was my era and everyone knew the natl. guard was the way to get out of the draft and thus not go to V.N. It is different now. Bush got in to an elite unit along with a lot of other little rich boys. He only had to say "send me" and he could have served in V.N. He trained for a plane that was not used in V.N knowing that fact.He lost his pilots licence because he no showed for a blood (drug) test. I bought the book Unfit For Duty and the video Stolen Honor during the 2004 campaign. While I don't believe every charge that the Swift vets made against Kerry, the argument that 200 soldiers were Republican dupes is ludicrous.
This is just a continuation of the friction between Kerry and the military.

  They were part of the 41 Group - bought and paid for! Logic tells you that if what they said is true, then he and all the case investigators for the Silver Star have committed one of the most heinous crimes that can be done to all the medals and the memories of the brave men & women in the history of the military.

  If one accepts a vivid imagination and wishful thinking as a basis for "fact" -- O'Reilly meets the criteria for being "Prez" in the image and likeness of the current leader.

I loved reading this story!
I resent Americans who went to Vietnam or who saved fellow soldier's life and then want to be rewarded with public office. They should serve their nation for the idealistic reason of serving their nation.
That's why I like George Bush, he ridiculed not just John Kerry, but ALL veterans!
I like the way George Bush mocked veterans by becoming the President of the United States, even though he saw military service for what it was to him - something that poor people did - not for someone from a well connected family.
I thank our Republican Media EVERY DAY for promoting stories like what the Swift Boaters came up with - and quashing the stories about George Bush's dis-interest in personal sacrifice.
I love this country.
I love it's dignity.
And when that day arrives when we throw down those who persecute us Christians in our drive to make the US an official Christian Nation, - well, praise the Lord, we'll kick out all Liberal Veterans.

  John Kerry went over there...but then came home and lied to congress about atrocities over there that NEVER happened. He put in for medals he never earned and then came home and publicly threw them away...all the while John McCain was a POW. And the ultimate joke: he wanted to be commander in chief of our armed forces.

        Uh, study the history of war. Attrocities are always done by both sides.
        In the case of 'Nam one side did it as policy. The other side (I admit in a some what feeble fashion) prosecuted them.
        Second. Atrocities were not SOP on the American side despite what you heard from Kerry and his Winter Soldier and Dewey Canyon "brothers". Many of whom were either not in the war or lied. As one of the liars later admidted.
        Sadly I supported Kerry's version in '71 because I didn't know any better. I was at sea guarding the Enterprise (DLGN-25).
        When I found out more I came to loathe Kerry. Who met with the Communists in Paris while still in the service and reported their line to Congress in '71. Making him a traitor.
        The people of Vietnam are still suffering because we refused to support them in '75. Such lack of support being due to Kerry and others like him.
        I apologize for the dead and suffering my abandonment caused. Has Kerry done the same?

        The Vietnamese are not suffering now but they did because we entered the conflict rather than mediating between all sides. Communism was never a threat to the U.S.

      In the early 70s I worked with vet's who bragged about stories they were personally involved in that were much worse than anything Kerry talked about. So what are we to beleive?
      Visit the war museum in Saigon (HCMC now) and look at the pictures.

In fact, he served more than he was required to. Now, I know how much you Bush-bashers love to portray the National Guard as a vacation, but I rather think that the Guardsmen who were killed in Vietnam and the ones who have been killed in Iraq might disagree with you.

  Exactly. Bush was charged with defending the US against incoming Soviet bombers. Had it actually happened, it would've basically been a suicide mission. Additionally, the plane Bush flew, I think it was the F-102, was notoriously unforgiving of mistakes.

  Goppy, I couldn't agree more. After all, isn't it true that god has rewarded the wealthy and powerful with their wealth and power? Yes, it is. Because god has shown his favor on certain people it is obviously our obligation to support them; The poor, fighting and dying, are fulfilling god's will.
  Therefore, it is only good and right that the right-wing post anything degrading a liberal, progressive, and Democrat wihtout any proof because the fact that the attack target being a liberal, progressive, or Democrat is proof of the validity of the claim. How can the righteous fulfilling god's will be doing wrong? They can't by definition.

I have a hard time believing this story.
1) It doesn't remotely mention how the author knows this information.
2) Anyone bragging about "who links" usually is just fishing for attention.

Anyone who buys this has never been on active duty. When a Senator or President makes an official visit the command selects the troops that will appear in photo opts with them. Whether you like the person or not. If there were no photo opts then there was one or two reasons for it. 1) Kerry chose not to use the troops for photo opts to advance his political agenda. 2) There were orders from above not to allow any troops to appear in a photo opt. with the Senator in order to advance someone elses political agenda.
No troop would walk up to the President or a U.S. Senator without first being invited. It just doesn't happen. Bill O is an actor they of course would ask for his autograph just like they would if the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders did a show for them.

  Redstate is correct. A Senator visiting a base or camp in Iraq would be a huge deal. He would not be ignored, and he would most certainly not be dining by himself. He would be flanked by an entourage of senior officers from the units stationed there. This story is a bunch of crap.

  Red ...you are absolutely correct. There is one little observation that I would beg to differ with, and that is about "troops" walking up to a President or Senator, anyone can do it ...usually they are, I wouldn't say in awe, but have great respect for our official, so they usually stand back, but hope to be able to shake hands.

  You got it realkeej. Something tells me that this story is a 41 & 43 Group Rovian spin. Here in Germany, my troops would all be interested in being able to meet someone like Kerry for the simple fact that he ran for president and is a Vietnam Combat Vet Siver Star Recipient.

  Prior service, but have you been prior service in the new military? An example of the new military are 'timeout stress cards' for bootcamp. Maybe now day they can only ask for volunteers. Then again taking Kerry's comment as to their intelligence, maybe they were smart enough to know he was a Senator.

    This is not true. Where do some of you people get your info? "Stress Cards", as far as I know, are a myth. I've heard one instance of them existing nearly 20 years ago for a brief time as an experimental measure. So basically you're citing an urban legend in order to call today's military weak. As we can all remember in our military days, one of the first commandments while walking into a hot zone, was very simple. Remove all sign of rank.
If you have a group of people standing around looking at One individual, than it is all too well assumed that that person is in charge.
One bullet, one shot, and no one is in charge anymore.
If those commanders wanted Kerry to be noticed, then I agree. Someone would have given the order for some poor group of people to be present.
I do agree that there isn't any way that he would not have wanted to be noticed by the media.

  The only time rank and identifying insignia is removed would be on an actual mission outside the wire, not milling about on a FOB. Dignitaries can visit and have generally nothing to worry about; they fly in straight to the FOB/Camp/whatever, and never leave the wire.
