Gonzales appears before Senate panel »
Posted By TechnologyExpert 1 year, 5 months ago in NewsHis job in jeopardy, A.G. Alberto Gonzales went before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to explain his murky role in the dismissal of eight federal prosecutors last winter. Seated alone at the witness table, Gonzales listened quietly as Sen. Patrick Leahy, the committee's chairman, delivered a tongue-lashing in the opening moments.

even at this late point no one will admit that they put names on the list to be replaced,,,,sampsens says he nevr added a name ,he was just the aggraget, gonzoles says he didnt put any names on the list, battle says his imput wasnt asked for on the list and mercier says he didnt even know there was a list, gonzoles claims he doesnt remember the meeting whr the list was approved,he also claims he doesnt remember the 3 page presentation given at that meeting dealing with "political fallout" the 3rd point of dealing with fallout being, dont give out names just say admin made up list
gonzoles has already admitted he misspoke about his involvement,we call that lying in illinois and i still want to see him charged with perjury to congress but bigger than convicting gonzoles is getting the justice department back to being an office of the peops and not of the republican party

Many positions in government will be just fine when you are more concerned with loyalty to the boss rather than to the country.
There are three where that is a disaster and all three now are or were held by lackeys. That is the Attorney General who is supposed to honestly persue justice in this country, the Secretary of Defense who is to see the military is reay and able to serve when absolutely needed, and the Secretary of State who should always work on ensuring support of our allies and negotiating to rectify problems with our enemies.
All three right are or have been in the hands of lackeys. The new Secretary of Defense appears to be doing the right job and all will say Powell did his best to do right at State. Currently Gonzalez and Rice act as lackeys where political support of the boss is more important than the country. Both should go and maybe Gonzalez will after this mess really becomes public.

We knew that there was a reason for Powell, Tenet, Clark, Card, along with others that left their position (some with metals for service I might add) but it is becoming increasingly clear that there is major problems with members of the government supporting the president first, party second and the country whenever it works for them. Anyone that wants to do the correct thing is soon ousted and another takes his place and that includes many generals that have served during this administration.

I listened to some of this today on NPR and was disgusted. Why is Alberto Gonzales so angry? Why is he attacking the people who are simply asking him to explain why he lied? I don't get how this guy can sleep at night. You work for the people when you are in government. The people aren't an annoyance.

You can't understand how they sleep at night? Obviously, they have no conscience or they couldn't have done what they did in the first place.

Reality is ....
What does a criminal do?
They commit the crime and will never admit to the crime.
You have to prove it, you have to question, re-question, examine the evidence and question again.
This is not a schoolhouse recess where someone, as you pointed out is being ground into the ground, it is a session of legislature, one where the AG and his boss have no respect for, except to gain power for their ultimate agenda (unitary executive).
Reality is.......
What is happening to the American public....
What is happening to the Bush administration..... and should continue to question.
Malfeasance is abound in this administration. Where you find one rat there you will find others.

mrreality says "can't win on the merits of their ideas, so tear down your opposition" ?? I believe they have won. I believe congressional oversight involves investigating corruption.
(Sadly lacking in the previous congress.)
There is no doubt the administration & ALL their political appointee toadies have much to fear from any congressional investigation.
Evasive Neocon talking point-"Clinton fired 93".
At the start of the term like all presidents he made his own appointments.. Not as a lame duck to escape prosecution or because they wouldn't trump up charges against political opponents!

Uhhhhhh....Specter, Cornyn, Coburn, Sessions -- when did those guys switch parties?
Your brainless rant blames Democrats, but Republicans want this nitwit out too. Maybe even more than the dems because he is hurting their credibilty.
Your comments prove you also have none.

Apparently the President and attorney general are now no longer allowed to fire someone they hire. I guess Queen Pelosi and company are going to take over the executive branch since she already fashions herself a diplomat we might as well let her party high person to staff executive agencies right?

How many folks are going to continue with the lament "the President and attorney general are now no longer allowed to fire someone they hire?" Can't you folks see the damn forest, or is that tree still in the way? This is more than the simple firing of a few US Attorneys folks.

SO?
What are you suggesting? Got any charges?
See where someone posting said that Gonzales will go down as the worst AG ever.
Doesn't anyone remember Janet Reno and The Waco Fiasco where a number of Americans were killed following the Religion of their choice. Or how bout Ellian Gonzales and Ruby Ridge?
Now tell me how bad an AG Gonzales is and how bad the current administration is!
LOL. Poor 4 Lers at it again.

WorldView: That sums up the entire AG fiasco. Gonzales needs to just bow out gracefully and fade away.

The bright side of the story is that Gonzales is set for the rest of his life . . . the Bush family estate will see to that. Probably set him up in a little practice on the outskirts of Austin or Dallas specializing in engery investments and DUI defense.

Good link Edinbug. After reading their concerns:
(1) "we need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future" and
(2) "to challenge regimes hostile",
it makes me wonder how much they knew about the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon since many of the people that sign on were/are in Bush's cabinet. What better way to get an increase in spending for the defense than to have/let an attack on American soil and what better way than to have/let it be done by an enemy that has no country. Be aware that I'm not making an accusation but rather making an observation.
