Republicans abandon Gonzales at combative hearing »

It did not bode well for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales when, before he uttered his first word to the Judiciary Committee, Senator Jeff Sessions, Republican of Alabama, looked at him as if he were headed to the gallows and offered some advice: "Be alert and direct and honest with this committee. Give it your best shot."

Rats deserting a sinking ship, yet again. Election time, and now they are trying to show some honesty and decorum.

Yup.
And why is it that this "not the right person at the right time," standard has not been applied to a a president that not only waged a dishonest and irresponsible war, but then decalared an "end to major combat" a month after it started and at least 4 years before it will end?!
These people... wow...

That was a Great question to ask.
I think it's just a matter of time before someone breaks down and starts spilling the beans. Because there are a lot of people involved in this. Some deals should be made so that the birdies would start singing in order to keep themselves from going behind bars. I'd like to have OUR government back so we can get OUR country back on track.
Peace

Honesty and decorum.. hmm..
Looks to me more like Realism, Opportunism, Pragmatism, Expediency = a public bloodless lynching.
The real heat is directed at his sole remaining apologist, the one whose name begins with a B.

They should have deserted him a long time ago, and not because of elections. This guy is a nut!

Gonzales is getting his just desserts. It's interesting that even fellow Republicans won't back him anymore.
But as they turn cannibalistic, they should realize that the problem is still higher up the food chain.

I hope you aren't a denier of Global Warming, Pawn. The data is available...

AND YOU WONDER WHY I THINK REPUBLICANS ARE SCUM??? IS POLITICS MORE IMPORTANT THAT OUR CHILDREN, NEOCONS???
- In June 2006, the National Academy of Sciences, an independent organization created by Congress to provide scientific guidance, unequivocally concluded that natural causes cannot explain the unprecedented warmth over the last 400 years. Rather, "human activities are responsible for much of the recent warming," the report states.
- In February 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change "concluded for the first time that global warming is 'unequivocal' and that human activity is the main driver, 'very likely' causing most of the rise in temperatures since 1950."
Nevertheless, belief in global warming among Republicans in Congress dropped by 10 points. OMFG!!! REPUBSSUCK!!!

It's unfair of you to equate all repubs as neocon scum you know. Even though I'm a dem I respect Arlen Specter. He's been on the White Houses sh*t list since he was up for judicial committee chair. So please lets drop the name calling and stick with the issues...by dividing us they conquer us.

"desserts"
You are a dumb pawn, read the definition...
That which is deserved. A reward for what has been done - good or bad.
Origin
Deserts, in the sense of 'things deserved' has been used in English since at least the 13th century. A citation in which it is linked with 'just' comes from 1599, in Warning Faire Women:
"Upon a pillory - that al the world may see, A just desert for such impiety."
With this phrase it isn't the origin that is interesting though, but the spelling. I am often contacted by people pointing out that 'just deserts' is misspelled. They go to great lengths to explain why it should be 'just desserts'. They are wrong, but perhaps understandably so.

He cited a faulty memory more than 50 times! WOW! It seems to me that people who can't remember anything important ought to take extra measures to save their records, no?
And if Karl Rove's emails were "accidentally erased" he would have been sending those emails to other people, right? Why can't they subpeona the people in the justics Dept.s email records and consider any email from Karl Rove or to Karl Rove as administerable evidence?
It looks like he's gonna get thrown under the bus to stop the investigation. I hope not. I want him to keep fighting for his job, because the more people look into the way this White House works the more it stinks to high heaven.

If his memory is that faulty, maybe he should be assessed for Alzheimers!

Based on Gonzales' testimony yesterday, he seems less qualified to be a US attorney than the people he fired.
Has anyone else besides me noticed that NONE of the major news outlets seem to be reporting on what I think is the BIGGER scandal here:
If these 8 US attornies were fired for standing up to the White House and not letting the DOJ become a political arm of the executive branch, then doesn't that imply that the other 84 US attornies agreed to "play ball"? As bad as the firings are, doesn't this have much broader and much more serious implications?

Good point Ryan, I was not aware. Hopefully, this point is voiced clearly during the investigation.

Possibly, but not necessarily. Most of the 8 were working on high-profile Rep cases, or NOT working on Dem cases. The firings may have been a "warning" to the others, not necessarily meaning the rest capitulated.
I heard a saying that (IIRC) every so often, you have to hang an admiral so the grunts will do their jobs.

Alberto has taken psychopath lessons from George Bush for so long that he actually believes that the Bush team goal of making the US government a subsidiary of the Republican National Committee is his right and duty, because he is a Republican, and the political manipulation of the Department of Justice is not to be questioned. It's downright heresy for anyone to question a Republican who's working diligently to make everything all Republican, all the time.

Now we just need to get the republicans to realize that Global warming is just as real as Gonzales is slimy.

The fact that Gonzales hasn't resigned yet just illustrates the contempt that Bush has for any branch of government that does not include Rove and Cheney (Cheney as an active participant, not just honoroary head of the Senate).
I don't remenber; I lost the e-mails - what a jerk.

This kind of reminds me of Watergate and erased tapes, and like the outcome of that inquiry nothing really will be done with this one.I keep wondering where your two aircraft carriers are and when I try to see if there is any news about them all I can find are stories on that loser Alex Balwin;saw a post a couple of days ago about possible CIA involvement in Iran but it disappeared because of that very important news item about Imus, where is the NEWS.As a side note to SantaM sorry about the Pens, they gave it a good try but to much inexpierence.Watch them go next year,to the cup:-)

Regarding memory lapses, remember Admiral Poindexter? That guy was famous for photographic never fail memory, but he couldn't remember anything about Reagan and the Iran Contra stuff.
Yes, there are reports of recent U.S. incursions into Iran with attempts to capture Iranian officials. Also the U.S. funding of Al Qida related terrorists who are traveling across Alganistan and into Iran where they have been blowing up tourist buses and such.
In the early days, of course, we did sponsor, arm and train both the Taliban and Al Qida.
Keep Gonzales on. He can't do much more damage and he is an object lesson about putting terrible people in power.
Besides, we don't want him back as a judge anywhere.
Many Senators looked bad. There were often tricky mean when they didn't have to be. They could have been calm and courtesous and still have done the job.
