The older war, the War on Drugs, is a self perpetuating war that practically pays for itself in confiscated property, bank accounts, and kickbacks from smugglers paying law enforcement under the table.

Wow, the same guys who have fought wars on poverty and drugs are fighting the war on terrorism.... no, I really didn't expect much to come of it except for less freedom.
A contrast with the author though... the war on drugs isn't about "drug abuse", considering that most that use illegal drugs do so responsibly, and in line with accepted use, not abuse. Just like the present state of legal alcohol.
