Well, if he is as enthusiastic about this as he is over the failure that is Iraq, maybe something will come of it. Question is, is the world ready for it?

Its very easy to stand up and press for "freedom" and "independence" - these principles seem so simple and straightforward but they can easily ignore realities on the ground which have created deep animosity and bloodshed over centuries.
Where's even a mention of guaranteeing minority rights, for example?
The Albanian nation is hardly a model of a successful democracy!
Albania is one of the most dangerous countries in Europe and one of their biggest exports is gangsters. A favourite activity is extremely vicious slave-style prostitution in Italy and the UK and I believe France as well. Drug smuggling is another favourite.
But they sent a few soldiers to hepl the war on terror so that makes all the difference and GWB who's frightened to be in human contact with any unidentified person in his homeland can allow himself to be physically mussed around by Balkan grannies.
We'll see what kind of a love-affair this is going to become..
8 hours = a short 1 night stand..

Do you have a clue about anything? There is no civil war in Iraq. You obviously missed the news about Iraqi militants fighting alongside US, coalition and Iraqi forces to defeat al-Qaeda.
You also missed the stories about Russia taking an aggressive stance against the proposed missile defense shield to protect Czechoslovakia and other nations from potential Iranian missles and those of other nations. There are no missiles aimed at Russia.
Do you have a clue about Kosovo? No one seemed to mind Clinton and the U.N. getting involved in the Balkans. Now it's suddenly a problem if Bush supports independence for Kosovo?

Who doesn't have a clue? You think everything is resolved in Iraq? You don't see our desperate attempt to work with those who were shooting at us weeks ago? You don't understand that in the end what these Sunni groups really want is U.S. protection from Shiite militia retaliation?
The Russian response is not exactly good news either. All we need is to revive the Cold War while we practically have our hands tied. But this administration will spend and spend to build more useless nuclear waepons regardless of this shield. Still a MAD world. A good investment for our future (NOT!).
Ask Bush a question on the history of Kosovo. I want to hear his answer. Does he know these are nominally Muslims? And does he know to which sect they belong?

"the proposed missile defense shield to protect Czechoslovakia and other nations from potential Iranian missles and those of other nations."
1) Czechoslovakia has not existed for over 14 years.
2) The missile shield has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting the Czech Republic OR Slovakia OR Poland OR anywhere else in Europe. Its sole STATED purpose is to protect the United States.
Time to go sit in the back of the class and catch up with your history, geography and political science lessons.

Doesn't it seem bizarre that Bush on this trip is seen as a pariah in all of European true democracies and then is hailed as a hero in the most backward country on that continent. Albania is the only Muslim Country in Europe, and surely the poorest. It was the Albanians who illegally immigrated to what was then Yugoslavia to escape poverty that helped cause the tensions in the Balkans.
In this sillyness of championing independence for Kosovo, a natural slavic entity, I hope he doesn't go a step further & grant unlimited visas here to these Muslims, apparently his only friends in Europe, but you never kow with this guy!

The last those 6 who have try to attack US base Fort Dix and they came in US during Kosovo war.Nice :
The U.S. Attorney's Office said the three brothers involved, all with the last name Duka, were born in the former Yugoslavia and are illegally residing in the United States. It identified them as Eljvir, 23, Shain, 26, and Dritan, 28, and said the three operate businesses known as Qadr Inc., Colonial Roofing and National Roofing.
The other three men charged are Mohamad Ibrahim Shnewer, 22, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a U.S. citizen born in Jordan who is employed as a taxicab driver in Philadelphia; Serdar Tatar, 23, of Philadelphia, born in Turkey, whose last known employment was at a 7-Eleven; and Agron Abdullahu, 24, of Buena Vista Township, born in the former Yugoslavia and employed at a Shop-Rite Supermarket.
I bet they use same skils when they were trained by CIA in Kosovo war ....

I don't think Bush has any selfish reasons for going to war, but I feel he was influenced by some who do. I also think Bush thought Iraq would be a cakewalk and he'd be praised for it.
I'm no liberal & I'll probably vote Reublican next time around
but next time around can't be soon enough for me. Bush has damaged this country

Bush needs to stay the hell out of this issue, Politicians like him always seem to help countries that stab America in the back, Just look at Afghanistan, Iraq, China, France, Arabia and so on. Our leaders never learn from history. Besides, We are neck deep in a lot of crap as it is because of Bush's ignorance and arrogance. Knowledge before wisdom... Bush has neither. This country can't afford to play referee in someone else's business at this moment. Bush would have American forces spread so thin that a draft would be inevitable. What right does he have to get involved in some other country's problems when his own country is crumbling in and by his own hands? His concerns need to be about the tragic situation he's gotten our troops into in Iraq and Afghanistan. And now this problem with Russia, 2009 can't come fast enough, GOD help us all.

OK enough of the BS, How many of you, who have opened your pie hole here, have ever lived in Kosovo, Serbia, Yugoslavia. Like many of you, I also thought that the Serbs were the bad guys and the Kosavars (Moslem in the region) were the good guys. Well, that was putting the cart before the horse quite literally. When I arrived in the country I noticed very fast that there seemed to be something else going on outside of the spotlight. As I drive through the country side I would see villages that were clean and well laid out and then I would come upon a village that was in total chaos. I found out that the clean cities were Serb villages and the dirty ones were not.

Within the first 3 weeks that I was there 5 murders occurred, one of them was of an old Serb farmer, who had it appears offended one of his Moslem neighbors, so the neighbor and a few of his friends came by and beat the old man to death. Moslem justice struck hard and quick on an old man who just wanted to be left alone to farm his little plot of land. The KLA (there liberation army) and Kosavars fly the Albanian flag for a reason and that is because they are Albanian. This is nothing short of a land grab by the Albanians. Little talked about but well documented is the fact that the KLA has supported and trained members of Al Qaeda but that is unimportant. They burn 1400 year old churches, unimportant. They kill non Moslem and Moslem police officers who have caught them at their crimes, not important.

The Serbs who's families have lived in the region for thousands of years are afraid very afraid. They were invaded by a work force of Albanians who left there homeland because of communist religious oppression and better jobs to the east and out bread their Serbs brothers within 45 years. The Serbs in the area have every right to be afraid. As for the Russians they have every right to back their old friend the Serbians. I sorry, but American diplomatic policy is not just wrong on this one it is dead wrong, Serb dead and more people will die in Kosovo when the Albainians try to annex the area, and make no mistake they will.

Absoulutely!
And everything started going wrong with the break-up of Yugoslavia.
For the Serb population of Kosovo, as philological has brilliantly described, this is more-of-the-same but worse.
Obviously no Serbs anywhere trust the US after the Nato bombing of Belgrade, which did nothing to help the Serb people in either the short or the long run.
Belgrade used to be a thriving cultured city in Tito's time and now remains a shadow of its former self.

The Great Divider is at it again.
Let's see: He's alienated most of the Middle East. He's ignored most Americans and continued a war that has nothing to do with 9/11. Built a fence to keep the "Mexicans" out (sic Bush- he doesn't know they are not all Mexican nor that their langauge is Spanish). He's alientated South Americans and has made enemies with Venezuela's governement. He's now creating more enemies overseas. He wants to park some missiles over there- no problem right? Was there a problem there to start. This is not to mention his abridging the Constitution and it's protections for most Americans. He's authorized torture camps, renditions, suspension of habeaus corpus, unofficial chains of commands within the Justice department. He assigns people like Gonzalez who share his views and hostility toward our Constitution and laws.
Is he trying to ruin all US relations before his fanny hits the door?

And your ignorance is over the top. Stay blessed. Small correction. Before US bombed Serbia it was one of the most thriving, prosperous countries out of the whole Eastern Ex Soviet Block. But somebody didn't like it that way. Yes, destroy a hard-working peaceful country, supply a bunch of radicals with money and weapons, and than start "supporting" it. The truth is, those fast breeding albanians were getting better welfare with serbs than they will get from US ever. Once they figure it out, they'll turn against you.
