I predicted it. He's here!!! Fred Thompson can only be defeated...by Fred Thompson. No other Republican can come close to the man whom, I believe, sincerely is devoted to America and unashamed of promoting "The American Way."
Fred was a successful Senator with an outstanding record. (F.Y.I. to Ed.) He can communicate his ideas. He once dated Country Star Lori Morgan. (little known fact.) Ha! Note to RINO'S: This man can win. He is the only Republican who can defeat Hillary. Handily.
Want proof of Fred's viability? Just look at the attack blogs and subsequent posts from the usual suspect Libs. Fred Thompson gives them NIGHTMARES!!! Ha. This should tell you something.
Join me in supporting a real American, a real Tennessean, (unlike Al Gore.) If Fred wins the South, he wins the Country. Go Fred Thompson!!

Thompson gives me just as many "nightmares" as Giuliani, McCain, Romney, and almost every other Republican candidate seen so far... I can't bear another eight years of W.
As for a Republican candidate who is "unashamed of promoting the American Way," look no further than Ron Paul. Check him out in the recent Republican debates (they're all over YouTube). His policies are grounded in the Constitution, and his voting record from years of service as a Congressman is 100% anti-tax, anti-spending, and anti-big interests.
Thompson's jowls alone may carry him to the White House if the mainstream media continues to portray him as the heir to Reagan - that's what sickens me. If any Republican candidate can lay claim to the Reagan legacy, it is Ron Paul; he was one of four Republicans to endorse Reagan for president in 1976 and worked in the Reagan campaigns (Ron Paul's gov't spending policies are decidedly less liberal than Reagan's, however).

hes not going to get mainstream traction.the big 3 brodcast ,cnn,pmsnbc,ect..will attempt to tear him apart if he gets the nod.thompson also is no W.allthough george gets we are at war he dose not fully understand all the aspects of the war.if he did he would have had the guard on both borders by now,and dont go yelling we dont have enough guard their all over in iraq.we are THE UNITED FREEKIN STATES OF AMERICA,had W made used the bully pulpit and put the press in their place in the beginning we would be turning away recruits.we would be able to both lock down the borders and fight a 3 front war.(we are on 2 now).as for comments about his maybe inaffective stint in congress i say good.the best govt is the type that dosent get anything done.

In terms of popularity, Thompson rivals Giuliani:

And he has executive hair.
But that's not enough to win my vote this time out. This nation faces problems of enormous complexity today. Problems so serious we may soon fall from superpower status. Problems so serious that if we don't immediately take a world leadership role in solving them, human life as we know it may soon end. More of the same in Washington could easily leave our children a world of massive migrations, starvation and food wars, epidemics that make the great plague look like a minor problem.
NOBODY's getting my vote unless they are a screaming genius and actually plan to apply that genius to solving our problems. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I'd vote any day for someone who looks AND THINKS like Stephen Hawking. FOrget the Hollywood Charisma beauty contest.

I am not sure if we will be able to tell if he is just acting or is for real?
We need some people who are real people, living in the real world, not just playing a part or a role!
Time will tell, as we have seen, with others on the campaign trail, give them a microphone and a stage. The real person has a tendency to be exposed.
Thanks luzmyprez for this posting.

there is a diffrence between regan and thompson though.regan was an actor turned to politics.thompson was a successful attny and congressman who retired to acting on the side.the one thing that i like about thompson is that his past isnt one of a person whos whole life is about becomming president.i relly think he looked at the top teir and found them all playing to polls that true consertives(relly most of america, reguardless of what is said we are a center right country)hang up on.thompson may be just stepping up to the plate to fill that void.it may be that if newt gets in thompson will step out..maybe the other way around.

I was impressed by his positive response to the big "C". I was also impressed by his interview with Hannity:

Well, if the whole trial lawyer thing is enough to ding him, I guess that means John Edwards has to drop out now, too.
Plus, as Julius Sharpe notes, Fred can point to a very tough record on pretend crime. *g*

Maybe if Fred had made one of those "typical" Hollywood comments about how if a certain politician wins the Presidency he would move out of the country then I could understand your point. You know, the comments made by people like Rosie and Alec, that they would move out of the country if the 2004 elections didn't go their way. You know, the same people who still live here and try to influence elections. I don't think Fred is that type of Hollywood type. If you can offer proof of Fred making this type of comment, I will promise you today that I will not vote for him.

Those three are what you call Hollywood entertainers?

I do agree with you, Edinbug, about the comments sometimes made by these people as being like a slap in the face of America. The same as it is a slap when Rosie and Alec claim they will move out of the country. Why do they never leave? Are they liars? As far as the level of influence, I am a bit jaded by all media, since my face has been liberally slapped since I learned to read.

One odd but true bit of information. Our home cities are less than 200 miles apart. You grew up in a "rabidly right wing city with rabidly right wing media" and I grew up in a city that is the polar opposite of that. What do you think are the factors that contribute to that other than the media? I think that economics play a bigger role than the church in this distinction. If I'm not mistaken, Cincy is pretty Catholic, just like Louy, but Cincy is more affluent, generally speaking.

Edinburg...these people assume that we blindly follow the logic of those like Rosie and Baldwin...I will tell you that they are both, unstable people who do not represent the majority of progressive thinking Americans.
They just assume we treat to these people like they react to Rush. Nodding in blind agreement.

I find a similar disconnect among some Liberal believers in God. One's who will accuse a Conservative believer in God of thinking that the earth was created 6,000 years ago and that man walked the earth with dinosaurs. But the Liberal believers in God seem to get a free pass on that issue.

I don't believe in what you are calling the Christian Conservative God, either. I don't think there are many people who do. I think that characterization is a tool used by people to drive a wedge between parties and pervert the beauty of God.
God Bless Conservatives!
God Bless Liberals!
and, yes, even:
God Bless Centrists!

I think you are confusing Christian Evangelicals with Christians who are opposed to a few hot topics, like abortion and homosexuality. Those two subjects swayed a lot of votes and will continue to do so. Voting based on those two issues do not a Christian Evangelical (of the type to which you refer) make. Interestingly enough, I do not base my vote on those issues. To me, they should both be out of the political discussion. Morally or ethically speaking the church can only have one view on abortion and their stance on homosexuality is just wrong.

didn't mention any of those charletons, ed-- that was you. I just pointed out liberal's take on God. If you cannot agree that religion and morality have totally been redefined (primarily by the more left-leaning segments of our society) in the last 40 years or so, then you fall under the "there is none so blind as he who will not see category".

From the article:
A separate survey found that 37% of Americans have a favorable opinion of the Republican Party. Forty-five percent (45%) have a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party.
Voters continue to trust Democrats more than Republicans on ten key issues tracked by Rasmussen Reports. But, over the past month, Republicans have gained significant ground on one key issue-- immigration. What's especially interesting about this trend is that the Republican Party gained while the President's Job Approval ratings have fallen to new lows. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has also been impacted by the immigration issueâ;;just 19% of voters nationwide now have a favorable opinion of Reid. That's down from 26% a month

Fred Thompson is so much more then an Actor. He is a prominent lawyer, a former Senator, a conservative with a conservative voting record of 86, a candidate with enormous name recognition, and a husband, and father. He has core values, and morals that Hillary, and Barak Hussein Obama can only dream about. Even if Rudy is the nominee he could do no better then to choose Fred Thompson as his Veep, guaranteeing the Southern vote, and securing the 08 Presidential election. Who have the Democrats have that could pick up the Southern vote? You cannot win the Presidential election without the South.

IF thompson runs, he has my vote. I will not, in now way shape or form vote for Billary, or edwards. Hillary is in this for herself. She is a power hungry thug. It was a well known fact that when she was first lady that she did not like the military. she should just go stand by her man and bake cookies for chelsey's wedding.

I like the spot he did on Leno where he came across as a little old country lawyer who got tired of the beltway politics and left for more saner surroundings like Hollywood. He got big applause for that line. Wonder of the audience realized that this guy is currently and always has been up to his neck in cutthroat beltway politics.

He stopped Michael Moore cold. It is on youTube. I saved it to show my Grandchildren. One is casting his first vote in 08. When he was 10 he told me he was a Republican. I asked him if he knew why he was a Republican, and he said, "because Democrats kill babies!" I have four grandchildren, 1 liberal, and three conservative. Yes, I still love the Liberal.

Fred Thompson has already shown hes smarter than the rest by not getting involved in these ridiculous debates 18 months before the fact.I dont think that media exposure is the beguiling siren for Fred Thompson that it is for the others Also, Ronald Reagan was a great president because he had the communicative skills to explain why he felt the way he did on issues and most people could see his logic and wanted his plan to succeed. He could garner the support of a majority and without widespread support the greatest planning will fail. I have a feeling that Fred Thompson may be as effective a communicator. For the sake of this great country I HOPE SO

actually, as silly as I thought every one was by declaring so early, I think Thompson made a mistake by waiting. He may be what the far right has been waiting for but it seems to me he has to play catch up. I can't see him winning the nomination anyway. If I was a dem I wouldn't sweat Thompson.

The only difference between Thompson and any other sleazy politician is that he sounds folksy. A folksy politician that voted on the side of corporations to the detriment of his constituents, a folksy politician that lobbied for legislation preventing redress for asbestos injury claims, a folksy politician who sponsored legislation that enabled S&L's to defraud people of their life savings. If he becomes a serious contender his dirty laundry will come out and brother does this guy have some.
Reply -

aniokly1 year, 2 months ago
He has no dirty laundry. Even if he did have something he beats every Democrat running, and that is the name of the game. No one has more dirty laundry then Hillary, and Barak Hussein Obama is soon going to have to clear up that Rezko mess. New scandal today about some support he gave him in 1998, and it is just the tip of the iceberg. Hillary's people checked him clear back to boy scout, and they are not above leaking all of it.

Big deal. So he did lobbying. He had to make money somehow just like the others did one way or the other. I like the guy and he sure looks the part as well. Better than all the others running for office. We need a change and I believe he is it.
