U.S. lifts embargo on Abbas government »
Posted by: TechnologyExpert 1 year, 2 months agoThe Bush administration on Monday lifted its economic and political embargo against the Palestinian government, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced. The move follows the expulsion of the militant Hamas movement from the Palestinian Authority, and is meant to strengthen Western-backed President Mahmoud Abbas by resuming direct U.S. aid.

Rice said she had informed new Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad of the decision in phone call earlier Monday.

Given that Hamas has the overwhelming power in Gaza lifting the embargo means that money and suppolies coming into Gaza will be picked up by Hamas. As a result, both the level of violence in Gaza and the power of Hamas will increase. In direct contradiction to official declarations this and the support to Abbas-led Palestinian Authority in the West Bank may result in two separate Palestinian states, at least one of which (in Gaza) will find itself at war with Israel.

excluding gaza in the economic lifting is not an option. The aid must go to gaza as well. IF hamas is seen as the savior for the funding then so be it. If the palestinians are that stupid that they will continue to back a losing horse (and they will) then we should allow them the opportunity to continue their fight amongst themselves. It is after all completely Bush's fault. (LOL)

For the last 60 years the same kind of circus has been repeated to condone Israeli terror. Nothing is going to change as long as Israel is supported by the Nazi regime of Bush & Chaney.

So this has been going on for 60 years and its all Bush's fault? Let's see.....60 years. 1947! Truman, Ike, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush. But its the "Nazi regime of Bush and Chaney (sic)"
Hammas revealed itself for what it is. They dont want peace. They dont want a state for their people. They want to kill jews and will slaughter anyone (even fellow Muslims) who get in their way.
Well done Daylight.

Daylight, perhaps you should think of drugs...
You certainly hate Bush and Cheney but as an arab supporting bigot, I would have thought you supported them. If it wasn't for Bush & Cheney, who else would restrain Israel? The IDF has one of the best trained militaries in the world. The airforce is second to the USA. The army has been fighting successful wars for 60 years without a defeat. If Bush didn't stop them there wouldn't be an arab world. Israel could have started east only stopping at the Arabian Gulf to reload. We should simply cut Israel loose and walk away.

> Hamas never asked American money.
Of course not. Hamas has enough money stolen from the ordinary Palestinian men, women and children to purchase hundreds of missiles and millions of bullets.
It's those Palestinian men, women and children who have no jobs, no money, no food and no medicines thanks to their democratically elected Hamas leadership. It's those Palestinian men, women and children who desperately need American money. Unfortunately, if the US will decide to give it to the Palestinians it will be stolen (again) by Hamas.

You bet your butts they have their hands out every chance they get. Between the claims of being charities to direct contributions from the Saudis, they take money from everyone. So now they claim they'll stop killing each other if we pony up money again. Why the heck should we? So then they'll go back to killing us?
My problem with this whole area is the claims of being Palestinian. At best they're Jordanians or Syrians at worst; they're the illegitimate children from Turkish occupation. Long story short, Jordan or Syria doesn't want them back either. If they can't play nice with each other, let's just provide weapons to both sides and let them kill each other off for us.

Oh, that Condi Rice is so intuitive. She has yet to master any agreement within the entire world, but now she has accomplished a feat of statesmenship that is extremely remarkable. She will give money to achieve peace to both Fatah and Hamas, allbeit Hamas is slightly shortchanged.
Condi has accomplished this with Bush by achieving a remarkable policy for America's future course. Now for those who lost their homes through natural disasters, Hurricanes, criminals (bankers) don't fret your tax dollars are going to a worthy and noble cause, Peace. No guarantee on the Peace part since in the end the guns and ammo will be used against us through terrorist attacks!!!
Good job Condi, college educated too. Only you could have adoped this novel policy for our future. My only suggestion you and Georgie go to the North Pole alone while the ice is thawing and stay awhile. Global warming shouldn't be a problem. Trust your conservatives.

direvelky - My post was to be humor. There is no land beneath the North Pole so my post was saying something!! I am not saying for sure the thaw will occur. Should have said instead of the North Pole analogy, Condi and Bush could go talk to penguins and become members of their nest and stay.

"She (Rice) said the administration would work with Congress to reprogram assistance to the Palestinian Authority and would also contribute an additional $40 million to the United Nations to help Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which is now controlled by Hamas. "
So we're going to provide aid directly to the terrorists. Yeah. This'll bring peace.

Gaza gets all it's electricity, fuel and water from the Israelis as it is. Hamas only receives support from the people in Gaza to the extent they can continue to provide basic services, and Israel is constrained by wanting to avoid a major humanitarian crisis on their western border.

You know, you guys crack me up. Claiming Israel wants to kill all of the Palestinians is like claiming the USA wants to kill all the Iraqis. Numbers and power, Israel has the weapons, the troops and the airpower to kill; murder or destroy the Jordanians or Syrians living in Palestine. Why don't they? That's not the Israeli's way. The same cannot be said for terrorists living in Palestine.

As for Rabbi Eli Albaz, who is one of the distinctive Eastern rabbis, he never misses an opportunity to attack Islam and condemn the Prophet (pbuh). He insists on complaining in front of his audience by telling jokes that address Muslims and Palestinians and using filthy language to attack Muslims. And Rabbi Eliyahu Reskin continuously ridicules the reconciliation attempts to create dialogue between Jewish rabbis and Arab officials. He believes that the only language of dialogue between Muslims and Jews should be bullets. He feels that without convincing the Arabs in general, and the Palestinians specifically, settlement can't be forced upon Israel so the efforts of peace are worthless.

The person you call prophet would be charged under Islamic law and executed as a child molester, according to biography. Perhaps if people actually read the Quran they would realize it's a book written by a mad man.
No where in the Torah or Christian Bible does it espouse salvation or heaven by murdering your enemies. In fact according to many of your team, it's better to die with the blood of the innocent on their hands. 9-11 is a great example. I've never seen a Jew or Catholic seize a plane full of hostages and crash it into buildings. Must have missed that from the Sunday sermon.
As to a dialogue, what for? Only to allow your enemy to rearm and train more troops? It's time to let Israel use the Arab methods like they use in Syria, Jordan Iran or Iraq. You don't like what people are doing, you murder them and claim they're rebelling.

He is not alone. Here is what the entire Palestinian National Congress (Parliament) believes:
> Palestinian Charter, Article 21:
> The Arab Palestinian people, expressing themselves by the armed Palestinian revolution, reject all solutions which are substitutes for the total liberation of Palestine and reject all proposals aiming at the liquidation of the Palestinian problem, or its internationalization.

Fine with me. They should get what they ask for, the Hamas government and the consequences of their choice. Gaza can (and should) be closed for everything except 100 Israeli shells flying back for every single Arab rocket.
> America is the enabler, sustainer and justifier of 40 years of Israeli Nazism whose ultimate goal is the obliteration of Palestinians ....
If you believe in this you'll have no troubles to explain how during the60 years of "Israeli Nazism" the number of Arabs in Israel INCREASED by 900 percent. In addition, you'll explain how the number of Jews in the Arab states DECREASED by 99%... apparently, due to "Israeli Nazism" there.

I'm not sure -- lemmesee if I got this right now: The Palestinians somehow THROW OUT the duly elected parliament, and NOW our government says OK, now we're talking, here comes some money? Just because WE don't like who they elected? What kind of "democracy" is that we are supporting? Or do I misunderstand this entirely? Those guys all have funny names and I don't seem to have a scorecard handy.

Both sides are terrorist based groups who have used women and children as legit targets for murder. We shouldn't work with either side.
Israeli missiles are humane, they recognize innocent people from the combatants. Israelis never kill innocent Palestinian kids, men, women, and old people. Sometimes their missiles make mistakes.

If "both sides are terrorist based groups who have used women and children as legit targets for murder" then how you explain the unbelievably low number of Palestinians killed during this war (TWO per day) given that the Israelis can easily kill 200,000 of them per day?

No, it's NOT because we "don't like them", it's because this "duly elected government" is a bunch of mass murderers. Nevertheless, I agree that paying the Palestinians for stopping killing each other is wrong. Only when the duly elected Palestinian government will stop violence and ask for peace negotiations we should promise them aid on a condition that they'll keep their promises they'll make in the negotiated peace agreement.

So now we're dealing with one band of murdering cutthroats instead of the other band of murdering cutthroats. We shouldn't be dealing with either. Terror becomes terror in this part of the world. If they can't play nice between themselves, why should either side merit our support? Until they love their kids more than the hate us, nothing will change.

In the normal world, that is sometimes possible. In this part of the world it's not a good move. We helped in Afgahnistan and the let OBL move in. We protected Saudi and Kuwait from Saddam in 1990 and that got us bombed in several places and 9-11.
To be honest, using Islamic concepts of war, we should blow the heck out of both sides in this case. One are a bunch of cutthroat murderers and the other side is a bunch of murdering cutthroats.

Nation building or nation bribing? Hamas is the democratically elected Palestinian government and the Fatah is the Bush backed Palestinian government. What is wrong with this?
I am against Hama's stance against Israel's right to exist. But I am also against this bribing diplomatic initiative of flooding the Fatah with money. We are trying to buy Palestinian loyalty for Fatah with American Aid. This practice has led to disasters before and I'm afraid this is going to be one of them.

Do you believe that Israel has the moral and legal right to fight them back until they ask for peace or are eliminated? If the answer is yes then you'll have to agree that it makes sense to pay to someone willing to do the job.

Charlson1 year, 2 months ago
I believe Israel has the right to exist and also defend itself. But it is not Israel who is paying the Fatah. It is America. We have a habit in backing those favorable to us and losing. That is my point. I would like to see the more reasonable group (Fatah) gain power in the Palestinian territories. But Hamas has more popular support among the Palestinians. Do the math and you'll realize who will most likely end up with control of the Palestinian government.

Carter? This guy has been a failure since, well, looking back just after his birth. He failed to react as governor when farm families were getting hit with huge tax increases in GA. Then as President, besides out of control inflation and a failed energy policy, he failed to react when we had an ambassador killed and an embassy taken. Since 79, we've had terrible problems in the Middle East. Had he reacted with strength, now cowardly restraint, we wouldn't be where we are today. Both sides are evil in this case and should be treated as such. If they starve to death because they're too busy trying to kill each other, oh well. It might slow down the car bombings elsewhere.
