Cost reduction... sure.
Plz explain to me how expanding Govt $ is reducing anything.
An actual reduction in the cost of gross tuition &/or lesser cost of running the instutions is a reduction... not Govt expansion.
From Nancy: "Today, with this legislation, we will make the single largest increase in college aid since the GI Bill of Rights revolutionized America.
Key word is increase, which in liberal speak re: fiscal policy must mean reduction.

Cutting interest rates in half will make it possible for more Americans to achieve their economic potential. And this is especially important for strengthening the middle class. By increasing the maximum Pell Grant scholarship by $500, nearly 6 million students will be given help to afford the expanding cost of college.
"The cost of this bill is the equivalent of six weeks in Iraq. Six weeks in Iraq. Imagine that. For six weeks in Iraq, we can expand higher education to all who wish to achieve it in America. That investment has a return to our Treasury, to grow our economy, to prepare us for the future

Your observations of opportunity or guns & butter issues don't change the fact that costs will continue to rise as long as Govt subsidizes with others $.
If "true" costs are to be controlled they will be at the institutional level of the school's expense side of their accounting... cost of doing business. Reduce them.
The Govt infusion of $ is no different than the subprime $ that drove the realestate market. If the $ is there, it will be spent.
Educational institutions are no different than corporations accused of corporate welfare through a variety of Govt financial instruments. It's easy $ & no incentive to stabalize or reduce the pricing of their (educational) services.
Govt transfer payments is socialism.
($500 is about net take of 100 hours of min wage; 2 hours/wk. Anyone smart enough to go to college should figure this out & apply themselves, not rely on large Govt, but self reliance & fortitued. Makes for a good student)
