        Well, first off I wasn't addressing you. I was replying to the guy who said voting Democratic is gay. While not being gay myself I felt a clarification was in order. (I don't know how you derived envy from my statement but I guess too many round houses to the cabeza takes its toll after a while, eh). I am a recovering Dem. That is I was a Democrat when it stood for something other than out and out stupidity and treason. As for now I'll back any party that doesn't cozy up to America's enemies, soooooooo I guess that rules out dems , greens, libs etc.

        BTW, although the typical American would only consider the U.S. simply above ALL others, these 3 countries you trumpeted, while being leading "Aryan nations" in certain areas, ARE NOT as you say "light years ahead of most of the rest of the world" -- at least in terms of internationally recognized "standard of living", civility and 'quality of life,' among other factors affecting the "total population" of a country. Overall, the U.S. doesn't even rank in the top 10.
        Take transportation (public/rapid, rail, etc) as just one example. The U.S., Briton and Australia are actually way behind, thanks to their petroleum and auto industries and interests.

      It is not the liberals that have anything in common with Bin Laden. It is the conservative fundamentalist crowd that shares his belief. He desires everyone to become a Muslim, they desire that we all convert to Christianity. OBL just believes that hell should be pulled to surface and they believe that we infidels should be given the chance to die naturally before we burn in hell.
      This a man likely living in a cave. We have spent close to a trillion dollars fighting a War on Terror while the one person who has actually admitted implementing an attack on us remains free. Is it just me or is this not patently insane?

        It is disappointing that the Dems have no true power. But that has to with the numbers not the will. The day after the '06 election Rush Limbaugh and every other conservative pundit started this mantra of the "do nothing" Democratic Congress knowing full well they had no real power. And the Dems simply do not fall into a straight party line vote as the GOP is nearly always able to accomplish. Those on the Left like Cindy Sheehan are not dealing with reality.
        If we pull out of Iraq there will be horrific bloodshed yet al-Qaeda will be a minor factor in that and in the aftermath. The sectarian violence is not the affair of America.
        OBL nor any other Muslim scares me. I will not live in fear. They can make their world a miserable place if they desire. But there is zero chance of a worldwide caliphate. The suggestion is ridiculous. I worry far more about the instigation of a Christian-Muslim conflict that might exterminate us all. All in the name of ignorance.

        You are clearly unaware of how much I detest both religions. Both smug in their assurance that they have the answers to all the questions of mankind. But it is really death (more specifically the death of your soul) that they both use as a tool. All along the mountain roads near where I live are signs put out by Christians that warn "Repent of Perish". That is the very same message Al-Qaeda is pushing. The difference is that these kind hearted Christians are counting on their vengeful God to do their dirty work for your lack of conversion to their faith. This is a core Christian belief.
        Bin Laden's adherents have likewise been so brainwashed by the Koran they no longer have free will and just like Christians they have been taught that this known life on Earth cannot compare to the complete unknown of what lies beyond. The rational mind rejects all of this. Yet those who rely on such belief have truly given up on rational thought.

        I may be wrong but I think it has to do with you saying "Al-Qaeda will kill you if you are a Christian." While this may be so you ignore the fact that Christians are today killing Muslims and have been killing many more Muslims for hundreds of years. I expect you will say that they are not real Christians or something like that but that doesn't matter. That's a squabble that Christians like to have between themselves. To the less indoctrinated they're still all members all the same.

First of all, I am not an Atheist but an Agnostic willing to admit I don't know the answers but I am also quite certain you do not either. I was baptized as a youth and later confirmed as an Episcopalian. You believe you have the answers but I would assume you have never died and been resuscitated? So please don't try to tell me of what the afterlife holds.
        The Holy Spirit? You do realize the concept of the Trinity came long after the Bible don't you? Tacked on at Nicea. And it is not at all universally accepted by Christians. One of a multitude of disputes regarding what you would call the "Truth" within your religion.
        "God is a loving God."
        Is this the same Christian God that sent She-Bears to rip children apart for teasing Elijah? The God who ordered the killing of the first born children of Egypt? The God who would send me to damnation for failing to bow at his feet?

        Accepted. I understand that what you believe is by faith. And I understand that it is difficult to have a valid debate based on faith. The reference to Elijah and the She-Bears for instance is completely non-sensical. However I also understand that by faith you believe those questions will be answered. Because of my near death experience and the brief peek I got behind the curtain I became a rationalist where faith alone is no longer enough of an answer. I have spent countless hours studying both the Bible (particularly the creation of that document) and alternative views. I have only come to the conclusion that the hand of man is stamped all over that document. That if God had indeed imparted his wisdom to man that man bent and twisted that knowledge to his own advantage. The Council at Nicea being a prime example.
        At times discussions get a bit prickly on these boards and you stepped right into the middle of one of those instances. For that I apologize.

        --Just goes to show that Bush & the NeoCons got exactly what they wanted. They pushed America so deep in a hole that it can't get out now. Because 'there would be a catastrophe' if they pull out of Iraq, can't pull out yet! And now that the treasury is just about broke, there's little money to change things. Yup, push the country so far to the right, put it into a military conflict from which there is no escape, bankrupt it, suspend civil liberties, appoint fascist right-wing judges that you can't get rid of, and then there's no turning back. So whomever gets into power will have a very difficult time changing things afterwards. Even a liberal Democratic president. Even if the GOP loses next time round, it's seedy agenda has been almost fully implemented. Maybe not quite, but then that's the the next time when another GOP prez after that gets in pushes the country even further right and hammers the nail into the coffin.

        Oh my goodness, William J. Clinton was under pressure and distracted because he was literally caught with his pants down and there was no way to wiggle out of it , then crumbled to the point he couldn't handle the pressures of his job when the country needed him. Of course I being fair as I always try to, I believe the Republicans were wrong to pursue that, since they too were doing the same things (Newt) and there were other more serious things they should have looked into. Although a president should be more careful if he/she wants to have an affair (get a room and be discrete for Pete's sake), they shouldn't be hounded to the point of lying and being impeached over it.         Every president in history has many things pass their desk on a daily basis that I'm sure is quite distracting. Was Clinton distracted that much when the time came when the call came in and was asked to shoot or not shoot? If so, maybe his distractions with women over doing the countries work were his problem, not the usual distractions and pressures that every president faces on a daily basis brought forth not only by the job but political enemies. Maybe you should lie a little of the blame at his feet? If he can't handle the pressure that comes with the job or can't multi-task and be in the moment and make a decision in the present time no matter what other outside pressures he is facing, I'd think that is cause to feel he wasn't the stellar president you claim. It seems the (less brilliant) president handles those pressures much better than the lofty Billy did if that is your assertion.
