Jon Soltz: So I'm a "Phony Soldier," Rush?

Politics – As Media Matters reported today, Rush Limbaugh, on his show said that those troops who come home and want to get America out of the middle of the religious civil war in Iraq are "phony soldiers." I'd love for you, Rush, to have me on your show and tell that to me to my face.

Rush Limbaugh is a dittohead who lacks the capacity to think for himself. He is a talking head for the right wing and walks in lockstep with the President. If anyone deserves to be called phony, it is a guy who cannot even get his own Viagra legally, he has to smuggle it in to this country.

Limbaugh sat out the Vietnam war on a 4-F deferment. He's in NO position to be telling a combat veteran what a REAL soldier is.

Limburger needs to be fired. Straight out just like they did to the guy who called the lady basketball team hoes. What limburger has done is unacceptable. Fire his fat lazy stupid as*. If not you are not Patriotic. You are self serving mouth pieces for the ultra conservative Bull Sh*t. Why is it O.K. for him to say what he does while others get fired for what they say. Wish he was here I'd give him a little training session. See who the real cowards are? Bush, Limbaugh, 5 deferment Cheyney. Come on chicken sh*t come and get your fair share as*hole. Walk the walk if you talk the talk sh*thead. He'd a been dead in Nam. He knew it and can't stand real soldiers who know the truth.

agree with ya gramps!!!!

I think the senate should pass a bill of outrage against what he said!

and Rush has never even gone to Iraq to show his support for the troops...oh wait he doesnt support the troops.

He supports the Iraqis.

Unfortunately, he's not an employee of a radio station like Imus was... he's 100% syndicated.

What you need to do is start a letter-writing campaign to the local station airing ol' Lush-mouth with a complaint about his comments and demand the station drops his fan a$$.

OK sounds good. Any of you computer genius out there sling together a webpage and lets get down to business.

It is time for Anti Americans like Rush Windbag

to be put out of business.

Sorry to disagree with you guys but I think windbag and his buddies should be broadcast 24/7.

I think more people need to hear them so they will have no doubt in their minds who the enemy within is...Rush...and all his little mindless ditto heads.

I have my own opinion of talk radio:

I'm old enough to remember talk radio when the Fairness Doctrine - a United States FCC regulation requiring broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance in a manner deemed by the FCC to be honest, equitable and balanced - was still in place.

In 1984, the Supreme Court decided that the scarcity rationale underlying the doctrine did not apply to expanding communications technologies, and that the doctrine was limiting the breadth of public debate. The FCC started dismantling it piece by piece in 1985and it was finally abolished in 1987.

Shortly after this, Rush Limbaugh started his syndicated show to a handful of stations. Though he did have steady growth railing against Democrats and liberals, it wasn't until after Bill Clinton's election did Limbaugh and conservative talk format he helped pioneer take off.

(...more)...

avatar
Reply

Now I'm NOT waxing nostalgic for the Fairness Doctrine. But companies such as Clear Channel COULD put progressive talk radio on more "big sticks" (high-powered AM signals...25,000-50,000 watts) as they did with KPOJ in Portland, OR.

The fact is much of the conservative talk is on "big sticks," the conservative talk money has been there.

Today's media is very niche-driven and I do not believe that it would practical nor fair to reimpose the Fairness Doctrine. What I WOULD like to see is a more "big sticks" like KPOJ across the country. Then we wouldn't need a doctrine because the choices would be there , but the coverage area would definitely be more balanced...

I listen to him on WIOD (610) here in Miami/Ft. Laud.

and call his show but they want no dissent.

I complain to his SPONSORS and tell them I'll never buy his product as long as they support his show.

I got some friends to call Maroone Car Sales along with me and they dropped advertising here..THAT is what sunk Imus..

Grandpa, you talk just like a "head up the -ss liberal". If someone doesn't agree with your warped opinions, you start name calling and want to get physical with them. You liberals are all the same. Ever heard of "free Speech" and the Bill of Rights? Your kind scares me.

Are you brain damaged? Did you miss the gist of this discussion thread somehow, even though it's right here in front of your face? This is about LIMBAUGH engaging in namecalling -- despicable namecalling -- against American SOLDIERS. Grandpa is calling Rush for what he is, right along with the other chiknsht ratfkers he mentioned. What's the matter, you got a problem with FREE SPEECH??

avatar
Reply

The only problem I have with FREE SPEECH is that HUTAL's like you don't think it applies to Rush. Thank you for making my case jaspersneed. If you will stop whinning, holding your breath, and stomping your feet I think you will be OK once the swelling goes down.

avatar
Reply

Tell you what... why don't you try your mightiest to engage at least A COUPLE more of your brain cells, and explain PRECISELY in what way I proposed curtailing Limbaugh's freedom of speech. Go on, show me the words I used.... That's right, you can't, because I didn't. As is usual with your type, you've offered yet another straw man construct against which you then pitched your smug, sophomoric rant. The fact is I am dead set against ANYONE'S free speech being curtailed: yours, Limbaugh's, mine, or Rosie O'Donnell's. What I am NOT against is letting the CONSEQUENCES of someone's speech play out however they will in the marketplace of ideas and public opinion, as well as in the actual, economic marketplace -- eg., the ratings of a radio or tv broadcast. Because THAT'S HOW FREE SPEECH WORKS.

When some one says something stupid they should expect to be called out to explain themselves.

jaspersneed, It says right in the Repugnican Rule Book that ONLY Repugnicans get to use character assassination and name calling. It's a sin when others do it.

Bush presided over the lies in South Carolina in 2000. "John McCain isn't a war hero." "McCain has a mulatto baby with a secret black lover." McCain would probably be president right now but for that Swift-boating.

Bush was in charge in 2002 when the RNC ran ads linking Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden! Cleland's a decorated Vietnam War Vet who lost both legs and his lower arm fighting for this nation.

Bush was there when the Swift Boaters claimed John Kerry didn't deserve a Silver Star, Bronze Star with V and 3 purple hearts.

See, those were all LIES, but since the Cons were telling them, they were fine. But Bush EXPLODED when MoveOn told the truth about what General Petraeus was doing in his testimony to Congress. Only Cons can name call. It's a disgusting attack when anyone else does it.

J.Ric: I see you are new. I have a problem with chicken hawks who have never risked anything but their opinins and profit off the deaths of soldiers. If you are that type you should be scared. Not of me. Scared of those who come back scarred and hear you talk. They would be the ones to get physical with you. Just using my free speech rights here youngster. If you don't understand that go back and study more. So when you pull your head out and see things clearly let me know. I gladly went and served so you could have your rights. You want to deny me mine. I might well get violent and get a little back. You haven't read my profile have you? You would see I'm neither liberal or conservative. I'm both dependent upon the issue.

Yo, Gramps. I just reread your post above. Exactly where in that post did you threaten anyone with physical violence? I guess one could interpret your "Wish he was here I'd give him a little training session" statement as a threat of violence, but that may be a slight stretch. Or not....

"ss" and "liberal" are only used in the same sentance by rather dumb people who do not understand that on the political spectrum they are exact opposites..

Like giant midget..Get it???

And "freedom of speech" is what Move On.org was using in their advertisement "General betray Us"..So I suppose you support their right to run that ad? After all, you are consistent in your support of freedom of speech..aren't you?

He's just spouting political talking points which are going to be used throughout the 08 campaign.

Typical neocon sentiment - demonize all who oppose. Well over 20 generals have come out against Bush's policy - so who to believe, a gas bag or 20 generals?

"In op-ed pieces, interviews and TV ads, more than 20 retired U.S. generals have broken ranks with the culture of salute and keep it in the family. Instead, they are criticizing the commander in chief and other top civilian leaders who led the nation into what the generals believe is a misbegotten and tragic war."

This entire story is untrue. Rush only talked about those fake soldier stories and fake soldiers. Not the real guys. The libs had it wrong again Jon. This was intended to get us to look away at how the Move-On.Org folks smeared Gen Petraeus. Remember, the real guys who dislike us vets are the Dems that want us to retreat. I refuse to believe those guys that didn't return with us will now be considered "Collateral Damage" to the likes of cowards like Pelosi and Reid.

Again, the statements that Rush talk about the anti-war Vets as being phony is untrue and wasn't said. Find out for your self, go to the Rush Limbaugh home page. Listen to the tape, watch the video, read the transcripts.

Jon's absolutely right. You are either unable to follow Rush's ramblings or just another Con[man] spinner. Here's an actual audio clip of the show in question. http://www.propeller.com/viewstory/2007/09/27/j...

Jon may not be a "phony" soldier but he is a "phony" journalist in that he did not even contact Rush before writing his misguided piece. Who does he think he is, Dan Rather?

avatar
Reply

His piece wasn't meant to be an interview of Limbaugh over what Limbaugh said in his broadcast; it was about what Limbaugh said in his broadcast, period, and was in itself an open invitation for "contact" with Limbaugh. Why the hell should he ALSO be contacting him prior to writing it? For what, PERMISSION?... Did you contact Jon prior to writing your comment that he is a "phony" journalist?

Is there ever a time one of you foaming wingnuts can manage to say something that isn't absolute BULLSH1T?

avatar
Reply

And even if he did try to contact Rush, there is no chance in hell that Rush would talk to him because Rush is a coward and knows that his lies will be torn apart by anyone with half a brain.

Correct. Limbaugh is still just the stereotypical used car salesman. That's really all he ever was, and all he ever will be. Lies are his stock-in-trade.

Way to go, drive by Steve. Like Rush contacted ALL soldiers who are against the Iraq war before his snide dismissal of their service to their country as Phony. Get real.

Actually, Jon's article was an APPEAL to go on Rush's show and debate the reality of his service to the country face-to-face. 4F Rush hasn't taken him up on that offer.

"First of all, thank you for your service. Second of all, it appears you did not listen to the entire conversation. If you had, you would have known he was speaking specifically of a "soldier" booted out after 40 days and making false allegations against you and your fellow soldiers, and those like him. He actually praised those who joined with the intent of going to Iraq. To those who actually took the time to check out the facts and context of the story, your blog entry's make you all look pretty ignorant."

More RIGHT is wrong lies. Listen to the audio clip in the above link. Is that not Rush Limbaugh's voice?

The audio clip is taken out of context.

You can take an audio clip of someone saying, "You know, Mr. Burns told me that Homer Simpson is a lazy man," and edit it to "Homer Simpson is a lazy man."

That is what is happening here. Only part of the discussion is being used to mount their argument.

B.S.!! Listen to the frickin tape or read the transcript. Nothing is taken out of context. He said what he said arguing with "Mike" from Chicago. It's all there from beginning to end. There ain't enough lipstick for this pig!

You can't lie him out of this one. He said what he said, along with some other things that indicate his lack of support and concern toward the troops.

Jon Soltz doesn't need my help, but I would like to be there for a word or two with this fat drugged-out windbag myself.

Unfortunately, my friends here will be surprised to see that after listening to the tape (as much as I hate Rush Limbaugh, and have contempt for his cowardice when of age to serve) I find that he did not comment against soldiers who opposed our presence in Iraq. He referred to one really "phony soldier" that they "came up out of the blue" (and the one he was speaking iof was preety poor). He just said that no credible soldiers have been presented.. So, let's present them. If we're going to "nail" him, let's use real nails. A A true American would be willing to discuss ALL of the methods necessary to end this war and not just infer that they want a cowardly surrender. He'd discuss forms of diplomacy with other nations to take our place and agree that even if we believe we've killed every visible AlQuaida symapthiser in Iraq (which is impossible) we would still have to have a Shiite, Sunni, Kurdish,Turkish, Iranian, Syrian accord, so why not start NOW?

BUT HE IS A PHONY SOLDIER! He claimed to win a purple heart. HE DIDN'T. He claimed to be a Ranger. HE WASN'T. He served 40 something days and got his a$$ bounced out now he's a darling of the left.

I'll say it over and over again:

PHONY SOLDIER PHONY SOLDIER PHONY SOLDIER!

Rush owes an apology to NOBODY!

Actually he was talking about Jessie Macbeth. Jessie Macbeth is a fake, fraud, poser, phony and that is a fact. In the 3:13 sec clip Rush NAMES Jessie Macbeth 9 times.

"First, in what universe is a guy who never served even close to being qualified to judge those who have worn the uniform?"

Uhm he wasn't, Jessie Macbeth, the poser was never "in" the military. He was kicked out in boot.

"Rush Limbaugh has never worn a uniform in his life -- not even one at Mickey D's"

And nether has Jessie Macbeth the fake Rush named 9 times as the "phony" soldier.

"and somehow he's got the moral standing to pass judgment on the men and women who risked their lives for this nation, and his right to blather smears on the airwaves?"

-

Uh he was talking about "phony" soldier Jessie Macbeth, named him 9 times how did ya miss that?

Second, maybe Rush doesn't much care, but the majority of troops on the ground in Iraq, and those who have returned, do not back the President's failed policy. If you go to our "Did You Get the Memo" page at VoteVets.org, there's a good collection of stories, polls, and surveys, which all show American's troops believe we are on the wrong track, not the right one, in Iraq.

Let see a majority would be 51%, Ave 100K soldiers per year X 3.5 years = 178500 soldiers yes? Where are they?

Here's something for some critical thinkers, try and find one to help you out, okay

Why does the Anti-war movement need to prop up phony fake posers if the MAJORITY Iraq vets are against the war?

avatar
Reply

"Does Rush believe, then, that the majority of the US Armed Forces are "phony?"

He didn't say that, he was talking about Jessie Macbeth, named him 9 times. The fact that Soltz, Jon D Army Active Duty O-2, doesn't have the honesty to admit that Jessie Macbeth is the phony in question, the Jessie Macbeth Rush named 9 times, speaks volumes to his character and those that support Soltz, Jon D Army Active Duty O-2

Rush DID say what he was quoted as saying. There are several links above now to the FULL audio clip of the show. When it started to blow up in his face, he started backpedaling. He edited the tape and transcript to make it APPEAR he was talking about 1 real phony. But go listen to the entire thing yourself. Rush isn't RIGHT -- he's wrong. And he's a big phony who was 4-F himself.

I guess Rush is taking after Dubya and his admin...changing the transcripts to try to hide what he said...and the sheeples buy it hook line and sinker, no matter how much you try to get them to actually listen to what he really said.

And the ball will stay in Rush's court. Rush isn't into having guests or callers on who talk back and dispute his declarations. Rush lives in his own little world, where anything he imagines is real

I remember when he was on letterman back in the 90's. He made some comment comparing Chelsea Clinton to a dog, to which letterman replied something to the effect of..and you consider yourself to be the ultimate judge of beauty. The crowd was laughing. Rush was sweating and very uncomfortable. He seemed to be "shocked" that he didn't get the same reaction that he got with his usual audience of dittoheads.
