Politics – Being around NASCAR fans requires no inoculation.
"Republicans said the suggestion of vaccines usually recommended for travel to Third World countries showed that the Democrats were out of touch with real Americans.
"If anything, it's the NASCAR fans who should get immunized against Washington officials, not the other way around," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C.
I was hoping this story would get some coverage...I am a NASCAR fan and have been for over 20 years..I have made it an annual trip for the last 8 years going down to the race at Texas Motor Speedway..I have seen first hand the crowds of people "tailgating" before and after the race. When I leave the parking area,(that covers several square miles) it is always clean and remarkably free of litter. The fans, both tailgaters and in the stands, are some of the friendliest groups of people I have ever been with in large numbers. The demographic for NASCAR fans covers an extremely wide range. It is not a drunkfest like some other pro sporting events I have been to. I feel I have been insulted along with the hundreds of thousands of other NASCAR fans'
"It is not a drunkfest like some other pro sporting events I have been to. I feel I have been insulted along with the hundreds of thousands of other NASCAR fans'"
True. I'm not a NASCAR fan by any stretch of the imagination, but given the choice between a NASCAR event and, oh, say, a European "Futbol" match, I'll take the NASCAR event any day. Nothing like getting bored to death for 90 minutes and then in a punch-up with a bunch of drunk soccer hooligans (no offense intended toward soccer players - just the hooligan fans ;) )
LRF: The drunk fest problem is pandemic. I am a NASCAR fan. I've worked on cars & aircraft & other mechanical stuff almost all my life & along side the ministry. I love to see machines work. My 3 sons also have a love for mechanical stuff.
There seems to be a problem with many sports events. When I took my oldest son to a hockey game, the people in front of us were throwing beer & popcorn around, cussing & calling for blood. Not the influence I wanted for a 13 year old. When I took him to a tractor pull, the same scene almost. I got disgusted.
The NASCAR scene seems to be a cut above the others. -Rev. S
I love this story, because it points out yet again how little Democrats know about real Americans. If they ever had a chance at picking up a few Soutern votes they don't now. And they didn't even have sense enough to lie about it at first, because they didn't think it would have "legs" Now everyone knows the story, and they are back-tracking faster then scalded dogs.
From the article:
"Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said his committee aides were visiting health-care centers, detention facilities and other operations where they could be exposed to communicable diseases. He said the immunizations were routine for health-care workers."
If this isn't post-gaffe spin, there's a good possibility that the whole brouhaha is over miscommunication. If true, I'll cut the Dems some slack.
On the other hand, here in NYC a proposal to open a NASCAR track on Staten Island has been bitterly opposed by True Blue (State) NYC residents. Traffic congestion is the reason given, but that subject never comes up with Yankee and Shea Stadiums and their replacements. And there are a lot more baseball games in a year than there are auto races. Attempts to talk about NASCAR on this town's sports talk stations are usually rebuffed on the rare occasions that they come up. Curious.
Maybe Hillary needs to go back down south, and try out that phony Southern accent, and that nerveous cackle.

"That was the word Thursday from Republican officials after they learned that a congressional committee's Democratic staffers had advised aides to get vaccinated for hepatitis and other diseases before visiting NASCAR events in Concord, N.C., and Talladega, Ala.
"Democrats should know that there is no preventive measure yet designed to ward off the blue-collar values and patriotism that NASCAR fans represent," said Linda Daves, the chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party. "If they aren't careful, they just might catch some of it."
"To suggest that vaccines are needed to attend NASCAR races is insulting to millions of hardworking Americans who love their country and the smell of burnt rubber," he said.

It might have been safer for NASCAR fans to get vaccinated if they knew the dems were coming to the races. ;)

This is the Swift Boat Vets of 2008, nothing more. And there will be others in the coming months....many others.
once again alpha - all you are doing is cutting & pasting what is in the article - are your acolytes to dumb to read the article for themselves?
No, I like to post the highlights. Sometimes people don't have time to read the whole article so I like to post the gist of it for them. I'm glad you are able to take the time to read the whole thing. Thanks.
AG thank you for your straight up answer - it is a rare find - as you can see from silverghost -
What is the problem, Ace? All that some libs know how to do is cut & paste. At least AG knows what the content means! LOL -Rev. S
