My favorite line FTA - pretty much sums up Rudy, "But he obviously is opportunistic with his religion as he is with everything else."
Very, very opportunistic AND this should be transparent to everyone....

Beau:
Your comment smells of meanness and attempted "guilt-by-association."
I have it on good authority (from Pat's former personal attorney) that as a Christian, Pat Robertson realized he could not continue as a politician in good conscience. So he walked away......
Some "Christians" are willing to compromise in order to succeed politically.
Some are not.

Aren't most politicians transparent, though? If you look hard enough, you can almost see right through them.

Feeble attempts like this certainly are transparent. I would say the politicians themselves are quite the opposite most of the time though.

Dobes Rule,
Good post on this use of religion for political gain. How convenient that his religious views are well known when he decides to make a point and private when he doesn't want to get caught in a religious debate.

Dobes Rule: Outstanding post. Thanks for the heads up. The lying materialistic sociopath has nothing in common with the Bible except being a sinner. He is in cahoots with Pat "I want people dead" Robertson. So there you go. That pretty much puts his faith and beliefs in perspective don't you think? Lets see we have Bush who talks to God and says God told him to go to war in Iraq. Now Guliani wants to be the one God talks to maybe he would murder whoever Pat wants dead. Get a clue there Guliani the ultra con believers may vote for you. The real Christians and those who know the truth will work against your deceit and lies. Your own kids despise what you are. Married your cousin and then said oops. Well there you go. Didn't fall far from your beliefs did you. You would have had to have some in the first place.

Opportunistic indeed!
Quote from the Bible, give the ignorant cons what they want to hear, then commit adultry as much as you want! Among other things. Then all you have to say is... I asked for forgiveness! But God doesn't grant forgiveness to Liberals, just cons!! EGAD!
It speaks volumes to me that the supposed educated cons on here can't see through that! They keep buying the same old bill of goods then coming up with excuses and comparasions to Liberals to justify everything these crooks do, of course "In the name of God"!

He has a few of the quotes intertwined. I think he takes the go forth and multiply as an overriding directive. As a "religious" con you can then excuse his adultery since he is following just that part. BUT if he was a "heathen" Dem then it has to be a crime against humanity since tey dont believe in God and therefore cant be following his word.

I know there are a lot of Liberals who are atheists, but i don't know any personally! In fact, until i started blogging on NS/Propeller, i had no idea that there were as many as there are. HOWEVER, even the Christian Liberals are dismissed by the cons on here as "heathens", beyond saving, simply because their politics is wrong.

The most vocal neocons, when it comes to the bible and to Jesus, are the WORST when it comes to actually UNDERSTANDING or PRACTICING any of it.
They are so clueless about how Jesus lived - they pick and choose what will fit them and discard the the rest - how convenient for them.
Hypocrites ...

That's the amazing part!!!!!
If you ask any of them their support is based on... "they asked for forgiveness". What a crock!

I call it vying, pandering and giving lip service for votes.
Those politicans that claim they are on the 'righteous path' now that really kills me!!! oh they're on a path all right, surely not a righteous one tho, unless they've changed the definition of that word too.

Rinaldi100, that is a pretty sad statement. The fact that people voted for it is also a sad statement.
The Abrahamic religions provide the moral underpinnings of Western society. People can argue until they are blue in the face about the evils perpetrated in the name of religion, but the fact remains that the Abrahamic religions and several other major faiths are the basis of morality for almost the entire world.
Secular humanism merely decouples this moral codes from their ties to religion. Proponents fail to grasp the spiritual nature of human beings. If you disagree, try to explain why Wicca in the U.S. or Pentecostalism abroad is growing leaps and bounds? Non-denominationalist mega-churches pack them in...how come? Maybe the mainline churches are suffering declines, but people still want "religion", people still want the spiritual experience.

Speaking as a Christian Conservative- I think you must 'cut some slack' to Rina.
See, we Christian Conservatives has sown tremendous anger with our 'holier than thou', and 'you liburals is all gointa hell' frame of mind.
The problem is, Son Of, Christian Conservatives have dumped Jesus overboard in favor of promotin our seculirist prejudices.
I know, I know - that was a thoroughly disgusting and spiritually reprehensible thing fer us to do. But what ken I say? We Christian Conservatives is MORE concerned with buildin a CULTURAL Domination here on Earth - than ANY Spiritual Dominion in Heaven!!
So we SOLD OUT our Spirituality in favor of a Jerry Falwell kind of political power.
True, true, it completely disgraced our core beliefs. But then - we never really understood em anyway.
And Jesus?!
Hes just WAAAY to much of a Libural fer us Christian Conservatives.
Dontcha think?

I agree to the point that there is no need to knock the
faith of others, though don't feel one must be religious in order to have a spiritually enriched existence.
Belonging to an organized religion doesn't make anyone
a better person necessarily. In my case it would make me a fraud and very uncomfortable.
Why not lighten up and accept diversity - and the belief that we have the right to enjoy, without ridicule, our own type of spirituality or faith.
Why can't we have differences without friction? The world
would be a much better place for all.

''the Abrahamic religions and several other major faiths are the basis of morality for almost the entire world.''
the basis for morality is empathy. without empathy, the teaching of religion is just words, and hence so many religious people have committed evil acts and hurt others. prompting quotes like 'religion=lies'
now this is where i should stop, but I usually can't tell where an ending is anyway, so...
now empathy is outlined by metaphysics, the kind visaged by the great ones, Jesus, the Buddha, etc., and apparent in quotes like 'Do unto others' which is a reflection of the great word, 'Thou art that'
But which came first, the great men who brought the teaching of empathy to others-and I'm refering especially to the not-so-famous spiritual pioneers that came and lived and died with no biographers-or empathy itself as an untaught social instinct?
