Confirmed: Barack Obama Practiced Islam »
Posted by: RedRiverJ 7 months, 2 weeks agoIn a recent analysis, "Was Barack Obama a Muslim?" I surveyed available evidence and found it suggests "Obama was born a Muslim to a non-practicing Muslim father and for some years had a reasonably Muslim upbringing under the auspices of his Indonesian step-father." In response, David Brock's organization, Media Matters for Amer

From the article:
Because Soetoro was a Muslim, Obama was listed as a Muslim, she said. In their first neighborhood, Obama occasionally followed his stepfather to the mosque for Friday prayers, a few neighbors said.
Interesting Obama has tried to keep this quiet. I would think he would being a Muslim would be part of his heritage something that would make him proud??

JohnQ-I felt almost exactly as you described, but I'm not going to be calling people names. I remember very clearly what I was taught and what I did, likes and dislikes.
And regardless of if I would have rather been outside playing or not, what my family practiced did have some impact on my life even if later I chose a different path. It becomes part of your make-up. I'm not of any religious affiliation, but I'd never become Muslim, it's totally opposite of my upbringing, and I'm not saying being Muslim is bad, just as I wouldn't say being Christian is good. I have no real experiance of living as a Muslim.

Says he practiced Islam- does a child really practice any religion? I say it matter more when a person reaches adulthood, and their character etc....but then again I don't know of any politicans who don't lie.
aniokly- interested to see a gracious loser?? what is your idea of a 'gracious loser'?? sounds funny to me.
and what hissy fit did Al G throw? I personally don't think he threw enough of a fit period, almost like he just gave up.

So freaking what! Any religion practiced with any kind of humility and reverence for the core teachings of that faith is a good thing. That he has been exposed to more than one religion is a good thing.
He has probably hidden it because of the negative blowback he knows would come his way if the so-called Christians found out about it. They would be beating their bibles and screaming heresy. And why? Because in a nation where we are supposed to have absolute freedom of religion, these extremists do not really want anyone to have a belief that doesn't match theirs. These fundamentalists believe that it is their way of the highway.

rockman0697 months, 2 weeks ago
If you think it is just the fundamentalists saying so, then say it--all Christians are fundamentalists. There is a deep-rooted problem that many, MANY agnostics to atheists claim against the Christian, separation of church and state and all that.
Now that we realize there is a possibility of a dormant Muslim occupying the most powerful position in the US as the commander-in-chief, suddenly religion is nothing.
Who is talking out the side of their mouth now?

rockman-maybe because church =s Christian. Muslims don't go to church and Jewish people don't go to church do they?
I think for MOST Agnostics and Atheists you are referring to, they want ALL religions seperated from state, not just Christians, SOME people seem to have a persecution complex.

Why is everyone looking for something to crucify Obama?
The way his father/stepfather did, or what he did as a child, should have no bearing on his qualifications to be president.
I knew this would start, people want to think they have enough class not to play the race card, so they will go back to his birth and play the Muslim card.
I know several Muslims, and none of them are calling for my death or anyone else's.
People need to get over this!

The point that should be taken away from this is that Muslims believe..once a muslim always a muslim and many believe those that turn away from their religion must be put to death.

Same here I am not out to crucify anyone either. This is news, just like Mitt Romney being morman or Rudy having marital problems. Where I have disagreements with Obama is his record on immigration. http://grades.betterimmigration.com/testgrades....

The chances are his background will be a good opening to understanding, and neotiations, and that the world will admire the USA as a country where a man like him could be elected.

I think that Obama actually has a good platform, from what I have been hearing.
That is not the problem. The fact that he covers up and hides under the guise of Christian, but finds a church that claims to preach the Bible but upholds the African traditions and mentality causes some concern about what other surprises are in store for the rest of us if he were elected. Some claim that he wouldn't have a chance had he publicly admitted to being Muslim.
I wish he would have been forthright from the beginning, instead of this. It was even stated that the claims of his Muslim background was fabricated.
Strange how that seems to be changing now...

If Obama is a "non-practicing Muslim" there are several possible senarios to consider: 1) he is open to attack by all practicing Muslims as a heretic which could be attempts at assassination unless he renews his faith. 2) Muslims will reject dealing with him as a heretic. 3) He renews his allegiance and therefore his faith in that religion would require him to favor it or be branded heretic again.
One must be sure of the tenets of faith of Islam. There is little wiggle room contrary to being a Christian. Their leaders demand absolute obedience and observance. They have a worldview which is contrary to Western culture and at least the "great Satan" as they call us.
Now IF he is truly a convert from Islam to Christianity I say great. But then some of the points above still hold. I do not want a Muslim in the presidency since Islam by and large has declared war on US because to adhere to that religion one must hold the view of its leaders.

Well, all I can say is I don't know enough one way or another to make any intelligent choice. So I will refrain from saying anything bombastic or favoring him.
I will do more research and learn where he stands. I don't favor him right now anyway. I'm leaning more towards Edwards as he seems to want to put a crimp in the corporate stampede. Just my opinion.

JohnQPublic is no different than the Neocons he writes about but for the other side. Are questions about his religion going to come up? Yes. Is it a factor? With 90% of the US claiming to belong to some religion, YES.
But this is just one of many questions he should and will be asked. Funny I did not see such a response from JOHNQ. when statements were raised on Huck's or Mitts religion.
People like JOHNQ that are die heart party fans will make America weaker. Ask every canidate every question you can. Get as many facts as you can. Then make your decission without bias. America survival depends upon it.

I guess most of us are die hards except for the independents. So JQ is defending his turf. We all do it but most of us are no so bombastic. Religion, race, and sex will all be issues at one time or another in this 2008 race. This makes it one of the most interesting years in memory.

Good question and who will be his vice? Now God forbid something would happen but if he wins his personal security will also be a question and who would take over if something happened.
The same would be with Hillary. Even though it is not a popular topic it is one that must be questioned.

We all know that Barack Obama is a Christian, but if he was taught about Islam as a child, all the better. The Middle East is going to be the center of attention for the next administration's foreign policy as it has been in this admin and we should be choosing leaders who understand it and it's followers.

When people intelligent enough to take time to research the important political issues the candidates run their platform on, show up at the polls in numbers, quite possibly the election victors will actually be what this country needs in leadership and strength to get the US back on track. I am not naive enough to think that a person's religious preference doesn't make a difference, but be reminded that we do have a system of checks and balances in our country that disallow any one person or government branch from having too much power.

I would also like to mention that the radical extremists of any religion are problematic, typically not the loyal followers who are true to their religion. We have had displays over and again of terroristic-type behavior from white US citizens who have killed innocent people in the name of their "religion." Any rites and rituals of religion that are in writing are always open to interpreta... and the Christian Bible is no exception. Sometimes you get out of it exactly what you want to get out of it...

Why does this matter? The US President should honor the implicit tenets of the constitution and subsequent Supreme Court decisions which aver the SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE in all government affairs. The US President could be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Bhuddist, Taoist, Wiccan, or Atheist - because his faith should not bias him against his/her duties as president, should not bias him against others based on religion, nor inform his policy-making decisions.
What is far more important is - will a candidate's religious background (whatever that is) change, shape, or inform his decisions regarding US policy?!? The country is a NOT affiliated with any religion (there is no state religion and no one must be a member of any sect to be an American) and its policies should reflect that.
Let's be frightened by folks who stand up and proudly say "I believe in a 'Chocolate Donut' and that belief will inform the domestic and foreign agenda of my administration."

And so it continues. First it was the use of his middle name (Hussein, which means beautiful or doer of good deeds in Arabic), now it's that he was raised a Muslim.
It's nice to see that America has grown up. Oh, wait...

No one is saying Barak Hussein Obama is a Muslim today. We are saying he is a former Muslim who, for some reason, refuses to acknowledge his Muslim background. Why? Because he knows once he does we will know he lied all this time, and we will wonder what else he is lying about.

Hey.
I'm a neoclown (conservative thank you), and all of my Persian and Arab Muslim friends and business associates are conservatives too. No one I know of has any problem with any public figure who is (or was) Muslim. If no one asks, no one is lying. I think Obama is a good guy, he's good for the presidential race and the country. I'm just not going to vote for him this time around.
Besides, I thought this was old news.

This whole "Obama is a Muslim" thing has been debunked and debunked again and again, yet some will not give up spreading lies and innuendo.
The author of the hit piece claims that because someone states that Obama was not a "regular" mosque attending muslim, then ergo, he must be an "irregular" mosque attending muslim and hence a muslim beyond doubt. If you think this makes sense, you need a short course in logic.
Here's the argument put another way. Fact: George Bush is not a regular mosque attending muslim, hence he must be an irregular mosque attending muslim, and thus George Bush is a MUSLIM. He may claim otherwise, but there is the proof!
OMG!!!
Here's another one. Fact: "Dead eye" Dick Cheney is not a "regular" cross dressing pervert, hence he must be an irregular cross dressing pervert, thus Cheney is a cross dressing pervert.
Isn't this fun? If you really get the hang of it, you too can become as influential as Karl Rove!

I saw the show they did on him I think last summer on the Bio channel. I wish I could remember his exact quote it was something to the effect that he was doing a lot of Grassroots campaign and it seamed to be a good idea to belong to a church. Did anyone else see that? Not much conviction either way.

It is a proven fact he attended a Private Catholic school for third, and forth grade in Indonesia, and was listed as a Muslim. So he attended prayers at a nearby by mosque. He also attended Muslim prayers with his step father at the same Mosque. You cannot alter those facts. That has never been debunked. I don't care what color the people are in his chosen Church. I do care that they are so anti-white as to not even allow white people in attendence. What is up with that? He wants to be President to all of us, not just the black ones. Or does he?
