Backers say Obama can regain world's respect for US

Politics – Ever since 2004, when Democrats barely mentioned America's declining popularity in the world, the conventional wisdom in DC has been that US voters don't really care what people in other countries think of them. It may have been sound politics in a country that remained in a post-9/11 defensive crouch, but much has changed over the last four years.

I for one would be very happy if the U.S. gained a little of its respect back overseas. It's high time.

It's more than time. I've really never understood the people who say it doesnt matter what the rest of the world thinks of us. It does matter. If people hate us, they are more likely to attack us, or cause us all sorts of other problems. A large part of why we became such a big and powerful country in the first place was due to the good relations we had with the rest of the world.

# Every time there is an abortion, it makes it easier for a terrorist to claim to justify the killing of Americans.

# Every time a porn site is visited or a pornographic magazine is purchased, it becomes easier for terrorists to demean women and vilify Americans.

# Every time the homosexual lifestyle is extolled in the media, it becomes easier for a terrorist to belittle Americans as immoral.

# Every time an out of wedlock lifestyle is elevated by the media, America is lowered in the eyes of millions of faithful Moslems.

# Every time Western scientists play with the molecules of life, it makes it easier for a terrorist technician to justify playing with the molecules of death - biological and chemical.

Locky, I noticed you were negged twice, but you weren't told you were wrong. My guess is that the two who negged you agree with you, but don't like it, just the same. I agree with your opinion and if the US wants the respect of the world, then the people, not the president, need to go out and earn it. The president isn't the one who determines whether we are to be revered as the greatest nation in the world, it is up to the citizens to act in a manner that is beftting of a world leading nation.

Now excuse me, I have to go get my portion of the welfare check from three of my unwed girlfriends that have 6 kids each from 6 different fathers. After that, I am off to buy lottery tickets, because hey, it beats workin for a livin. And then it is off to the bar to hang out with my buddies who sell crack to teenagers. Boy, Bush sure did screw it up. It can't be my fault...

The funny thing is, these aren't my original thoughts. I agree with them of course, but I got them from a Fatima website.

Something noteworthy about Fatima is that Mary is the one person that Christians and Muslims have in common. One day, She will be the person who unites us.

Locky-

"Mary is the one person that Christians and Muslims have in common."

excuse me? perhaps you've heard of a Jewish fellow from Nazareth named Jesus. while muslims do not recognize Jesus as the son of God, they DO acknowledge him as a prophet of God. youre also forgetting Moses and Abraham, which muslims and christians also have in common.

avatar

True, but Muslims believe in the Virgin Mary. That is the only common DIVINE characteristic.

But then again, what do you care-- as your post below explains it's all "blah, blah, blah" as you put it.

You are such a dirtbag!

i DO care.. i blah, blah, blah'd because those are NOT the reasons we were/are attacked... we get that you are a conservative christian, and im not saying anything bad about that.

i understand that you believe those things are wrong, and im not arguing that. they may think they are bad too, BUT, im just saying those are NOT the reasons we were attacked.

if you want to know WHY we were atacked, listen to the people who carried out the attack!!!

osama bin laden, in his videos, doesnt talk about our "lifestyle" he talks about our FOREIGN POLICY.

Anti Separation of Church and State and sees Ghosts. LOL Roman Catholicism is live and well and so is Mariology. In Mary we trust.....

And people wonder why I speak out against radicalism. The article is about Obama and his message of creating hope for restoring respect around the world. WOW, Talking about a personal agenda here. You are a NUTCASE. Everyone to their own, I guess. LOL

You can be forgiven for that statement.

Just leave it alone that 70,000 people witnessed "The Miracle of The Sun" that day. (Athiests have written about it as well as truth and fact. Just google it and read whichever account you like it's all the same.)

I only brought up the above bullet points because too many people wrongly think that it's a president that makes us respectful overseas. And specifically why others would want to attack us.

Well you can make a nifty $1,000,000 if you can prove what you say:

http://www.randi.org/research/index.html

Please fill out the application and submit your claim. It ought to be easy from what you say. When you have won the million dollars, come back on Propeller and share the Goodnews with us all.

BTW, I respectfully disagree with why you think others would want to attack us, and I do believe the President, in the eyes of the rest of the world, does influence what others think about us. After all, it is the President who we elected to the highest leadership position in the land.

Good luck in your million dollar search.

Umm, you didn't read that website too carefully, did you? You really should actually read something before posting it.

That test is in regards to a person's own supernatural power of which I never claimed I have or which to believe. Jesus lived a whole lot before 1964 when this guy with two nickels to rub together started testing people.

No locknut, it is about paranormal activity which includes seeing apparitions. The dictionary definition of paranormal is: not scientifically explainable : supernatural

Here is the sights own words, so why lie? "At JREF, we offer a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event."

That is what you are claiming, a supernatural event that 70,000, wasn't it, you say who witnessed?

Don't twist it into a denial and bale out on me before you ever win your million. Grow some cahooneys locknut. It should be easy to prove your claim you seemed so convinced about when you wrote about the "miracle of the sun". I personally hope you collect on the money, but I am betting your just another religious right nut. Either way, good luck.

Here you are, TOD, on another link, still not talking about issues but stating your agenda, to make us all religious legalists like yourself. Can you say "Pharisee"? So, you are just another "fundie" and NeoCon after all. LOL Surprise, surprise, surprise. You are right about one thing, GWB did screw it up. I would take Hillery before I would take him. And, Obama would return respect to our country if elected, but I think you are too big a bigot to admit the truth.

You make it sound as though Bin Laden is the authority of what the US is doing wrong in the world. Sorry, but I don't get my world knowledge from a guy who lives in a cave...

Yeah, why do we even listen to them! Bin Laden and Al Zawihiri are a couple of clowns who've been given much greater legitimacy than they deserve by being elevated to the number one enemies of the world's greatest military power. In fact they are about as important as those bullied schoolchildren who want to blow up their schools. They have no political objectives other than lashing out. Their policy of moslem upon moslem violence has made them the enemies of even the Sunnis in Iraq, and I am sure Allah is not at all pleased with them.

TOD396:

I gave you a positive because you said you don't get your world knowledge from a guy who lives in a cave. Thats good.

I don't know where you get your "world knowledge" but it seems limited to ultra conservative sources. Who while not living in a cave are truly deranged in their views of truth.

You have the real truth. Then the ultra con spun version, then the ultra lib spun version. Then you have what the majority of the world see's as the truth. Which is what is true to them. The real truth is Jesus Christ. Not Mary his mother who cannot intercede for you with God. Not what you or I think. But what Jesus did and does still today. Saved and saves us.

Most everything else is what man does for his flesh while trying to convince himself it is for the good of all.

That said the president of our country certainly has the most influence over how the world percieves our nation. Right now we are seen as evil. I wonder why GW Bush?

#trying to link abortion to terrorism is just plain crazy. and when the republicans stop having abortions, then maybe, just maybe, someone will start to take their talk about hating abortion seriously.

#I'm sure muslims never ever surf porn sites. and forget american porn sites. what about russian porn sites? or brazilian porn sites? japanese porn sites? or the sex trade out of dubai? your point about porn sites is pointless since the whole world seems to be surfing porn. just ask ted haggard about his gay porn sites.

#please provide one link of a legitmate media story extolling the homosexual lifestyle. now cue the crickets.

#who is extolling an out of wedlock lifestyle? gay people who want to get married?

#only western scientists? what about those far eastern scientists who are cloning animals? and there are plenty of western scienitists playing with the "molecules of death". we invented the stuff. just ask the people of hiroshima.

Therein lies the problem with them and you. Everyone is easy to get along with if you simply submit yourself entirely to their will and do exactly as they want you to do.

I don't want women back to using coat hangers in back alleys and bleeding to death to make you and the Muslims of the world happy.

I don't care a hoot for racy magazines or websites, but I defend to the death the publisher's first amendment rights to publish them and those of the people who want to see them.

I'm not gay, but I'm not on any bandwagon that purges the country of people whose sexual orientation is different than mine.

It comes down to a decision between the politics of divide and conquer, the politics of exclusion; versus the politics of inclusion. My world has room for all types except haters.

guess we were "doing something wrong" after WW1 and WW2, cuz the rest of the world sure did like us at both those points in time.

and we surely must have been "doing something wrong" the day after the wall came down, cuz they liked us then too.

and wait, dont tell me...... let me guess, were we also "doing something wrong" on Sept 12, 2001; when almost every nation on earth liked us, and publicly made a point of saying so?

sounds like your idea of successful foreign policy is "the more the rest of the world hates us, the better"...

um, not to bother you with reality but, the more the rest of the world hates us, the more likely they will attack us.

We OCCUPY another country, murdering innocent poeple and causing chaos as we go. We LET our president lie to us daily, we keep accepting the same old rhetoric a five year old could see thru, we allow the prez to take away our constitutional rights under the guise of "national security." I should probably dredge up a few quotes from the Founding Fathers to respond to your nonsense, but it's past my bedtime and I'm dealing with too many wireless issues to take the time. Suffice it to say that you should look up the strikes by underpaid and overworked medical workers in France's utopian socialist society (paid for by ripping off the US, if my info is correct), the girls that were locked in a burning school until they died by Saudi religious police because they didn't have their 'proper' attire due to running for their lives from the fire, and the slaughter in Darfur, and then figure out what the US is doing that's so off-base that I'm unjustified in a low opinion of the rest of the world. Quite honestly, if the US actually has sunk to the level of dishonest egotism (France example above), ignorance(Saudi) and barbarism (Darfur example, or Tamil Tigers if you prefer communists to Muslims) of the rest of the world, the rest of the world still su*ks. Get a clue!

Of course.

How barbaric of Spain to realise that marriage is a bond between two consenting adults.

How ignorant of Europe to actually believe that there are ways of dealing with terrorism than by blowing up Muslim civilians.

How egotistical of the whole freakin' world to actually believe that they deserve some say in their own affairs. How dare they? Stomp 'em down until they acknowledge that their only legitimate role in life is to be the grateful suppliants of the Unties States. Then put 'em to work to support your unsustainable lifestyles.

Gods, but Americans can try my patience at times.

Thanks for proving my other post true - the one saying that the US can either be the world's policeman or will wind up the world's mugging victim because there's too many wimpy countries in the world. There are ways of dealing with terrorism other than blowing up Muslim civilians?? Check who's behind the weapons killing those civilians sometime, you silly goose. As for the rest, you could fix that stuff in a heartbeat by having more kids (gay marriage won't help)and doing enough work in a day that you actually have enough economic productivity to feed and defend your sorry behinds without begging for help from us. Grow up sometime and you'll see that the term 'ugly american' is simply an insult you losers use as an excuse to avoid admitting that you've gone nowhere as a people since before the US was founded in 1776. Remember, not everyone can be conned into believing that louding stating the inferiority of another is always an insult. Truth can help sometimes! ;-)

1. The US hasn't defended itself since Afghanistan - that was legitimate self-defence. Iraq was an act of aggression - a war crime, as per the Nuremberg Trials (as US-chaired panel).

2. At present, it's about 50/50 - various insurgents or Blackwater mercenaries.

3. Australia's economy is, to say the least, in enviable shape compared to America's. If you want to look at handouts and inefficiency, look at your own agricultural sector sometime - the highest level of subsidies in the world. "Free trade"? Hypocrites.

4. Correct, there are times that stating the inferiority of another is the simple truth.

Here it is: the USA is an inferior country, unable to survive without conquest to prop up its economy, owing more than its GDP in foreign debt, and with the largest budget deficit in the world. Bluntly, the US is up sh*t creek - and you've none to blame but yourselves. But do keep trying - it's entertaining to watch the torture you inflict upon logic in your efforts.

It's also good for government types that are actively trying to bypass the US Constitution and set up their own little tyranny on the backs of the rest of us, but how you're supposed to use them in that case is something that's just not polite to discuss either. Try to keep your topics a little more civil - oh, wait, you're the filth that was smug and satisfied when about 3000 US people died for no good reason. So much for civil discourse...

...and that little detail about Muslims trying to take over the world since 660AD has nothing to do with this discussion? You really are a piece of something unpleasant. For future reference, my avatar is a diagram of allowable land transfers in countries under Muslim law (bottom), not under Muslim law (top), by Muslims (right) and non-Muslims (left). The dotted line represents the 'bleeding borders' of Islam. I made the avatar to describe the covert conquest scheme of Islam, not to describe a fancy chemical reaction, because it's obvious to me that some people are too dim to ever figure out what I'm referring to when I talk about a 'real estate black hole' in connection to a religion, and I'm hoping that enough people will understand the diagram enough to start an effective opposition to Islam as a political weapon (it's a lame excuse of a religion anyway). Do try to keep up with real issues, not fluff and snobbery, in the war on (Islamic) terror(ists).

dropkick,

That comment is insane. Other countries don't hate us because we are making the tough choice for their own good, or any other such notion. They hate us becuase we do bad things!

We start a war based on lies about WMD. We put a puppet government in place which passes a law saying that "contractors" cannot be accountable to Iraqi law. Then we send in a highly paid mercenary army to cause chaos to keep the war going and then claim they cannot be held accountable for their actions. All the while we taxpayers are having our tax monies funneled to private industry! You should not support these actions - you should be outraged!

If the rest of the world hates us this much, we are doing something wrong.

A lot of people have disliked or hated the USA for a lot longer than invasion to Afghanistan and Iraq.

People who read and watch the news, have for DECADES seen USA as the villain of the world. It wasn't the Bush nor Clinton administration that started it. Ever since after the WWII and with the Cold War, USA has been driven largely by the same ideology: global hegemony and protection of US economic/strategic interest in foreign countries by very dirty means.

Yes, many people thought 9/11 that USA got what it deserved, it was a revenge. For all those decades USA had interfered the Gulf region. USA supported the rebellions against Saddam that "made Saddam murder his own people". USA HIRED Saddam to attack Iran. USA helped Saddam to became Iraq's leader and had Saddam murder a mass of people Americans wanted dead. USA even today supports guerillas who fight inside Iran. The list is too long to write here.

It is HIGH TIME indeed!
