McCain carries too much baggage

Politics – As a conservative Republican, I've had difficulty deciding who to vote for in our presidential preference election. Then it hit me . . .

"McCain's baggage: To assuage his guilt over the "Keating 5" scandal, the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold bill was proposed and is now law.

And then there was the infamous Gang of 14 to prevent the Senate from reversing the unconstitutional practice (rule) of requiring 60 votes for approval of court nominees.

Oh, and the hundreds of appearances on the Sunday TV shows trashing fellow Republicans, not voting for Bush's tax cuts, and the most egregious of all, the arrogance of trying to ram a back room immigration/amnesty deal down our throats.

Believe me, a President McCain would sign any immigration bill the Democrat Congress passes, regardless of what he says in the campaign."

He would guarantee himself the nomination and the White House if he did these two things:

1) Run on the platform that he'll retire after one term.

2) Pick a running mate like Duncan Hunter.

The reality is, anybody can make a similar video about ANY candidate running for president.

You can't make one about Ron Paul.

Why would I waste good time and effort to?

All Republican candidates carry too much baggage. We in the business like to call it - the GOP's results over the past seven years.

Yes, I'm aware of McCains past too and his leanings. But his age doesn't matter, but I've used this expression before. His ideas are "tired."And both parties are "tired." My quest for a "fresh" and QUALIFIED seems to be evaporating quickly.

I'm independant but lean conservative, but that arrow doesn't seem to lead anywhere.Right this second, I'm going to look closer at Guliani just because of his decisiveness during the world trade crisis, but that's a slim thread.Plus foreign policy is a BIG concern for me.

I've said before that once more in my life that I would like to vote "for" someone and not "against" someone. But I sadly think for the first time in my life it may come down to not for or against but just a gamble. But vote I will.

Good for you, rdy. Giuliani does have strong leadership skills and he's the most fiscal conservative running. We'll just have to see how he does in Florida. I'm still watching, too. ; )

Look at the baggage he carries, "his wife's on a carrousel's" view of marriage certainly turns off a lot of the Republican base. Who the running mate is will assuage a lot of voters.

Remember this once in office a candidate looks at things differently than when running. You say one thing to get elected. You do other than what you said to govern. Remember LBJ?? Big conservative Texan, even bigger liberal, so you never know. You have to look at the core values of each candidate.

Rudy was in on the 9/11 bombing! Why else would he have so quickly disposed of the evidence that engineers would have been able to analyze to determine why the towers and building 7 so perfectly imploded upon their own footprint. Like a controlled demolition! There are tell tail signs in metal that are known and documented. Heat leaves a specific signature within the molecular structure. So too does impact, explosives, buckling loads, etc. Conspiracies abound and for good reasons. They gather wreckage from the ocean floor and rebuild an aircraft to determine what caused it to crash or explode in mid air. Why not launch an investigation into the supposed collapse of the towers by analyzing the wreckage? Someone or some organization had something to hide. Rudy had to be in on it. I have been in engineering for 30 years. The probability of three buildings collapsing onto their own footprints is an impossibility. One was not even hit!

Fiscally conservative sure. Name a Repub who actually did anything fiscally conservative.

How about Bushy who offers tax cuts to pay for a war.

GAG Guns Abortion and Gays- it worked before.

McCains views are pathetically the closest to Bush (Bootlicker) of all the repubs.

Rudy has 911 tattooed to his forehead, and not much more (other than his divorce lawyers phone #)

Mitt is a mormon and we all know the southern baptist christian conservatives don't like that aka huckabee.

You puks need to address real problems. Illegals invade the border and thats an issue but invading Iraq is not.

same ol stuff- this is why you're out in 08

McCain I respect for his service to the country while in the military, but honestly...I won't vote for another 72 year old man. Ronald Reagan made a believer out of me...when you get that old you need to be out fishing or enjoying your retirement, not trying to rule the world.

avatar
Reply

I'm voting this up even though I don't necessarily agree - I'm still on the fence about which candidate I prefer, given that I feel no one in either party is qualified to walk my dog, let alone manage the country.

avatar
Reply

Yeah, I'm definitely not a big McCain fan. At this point, I'm still weighing my options with the Republican candidates, but I there are certainly a few I much prefer over McCain (probably a bit of an understatement).

avatar
Reply

I think I've narrowed my field down to Mitt and Rudy.

That's of today, though. Could change tomorrow. ; )

The attractive thing about McCain is the attacking of Putin. One of the scariest things about this more rabid Left is how they will jump to Putin's defense over anything, and Russia is more than willing to kill non-combatant foreigners outside their own borders (witness the events in the UK).

avatar
Reply

I liked Putin quite well when he first came into power, but my trust of the man has certainly declined recently.

That's one issue of foreign policy that worries me.Most people haven't paid attention to him and gets little press here, but his gov't has opposed us many, many times in the U.N. security council. We are still "enemies."

Plus, I've seen it reported it only once, but as the artic has melted and opened new channels, Russian ships are busily planting flags all over the place, technically maybe not a provocation now, but it will be.My trust for him is 0.

Just another foreign policy issue to manage. Any candidates?

avatar
Reply

Yea Yea like any repub has any notion of foreign policy.

Remember Iraq. Thats foreign

Whats really foreign is exactly what winning is supposed to look like in the middle east.

How about this, if you throw enough money and manpower at a problem, you're bound to see some sort of result.

Yea the surge is working.

How do you puks feel about welfare.....We know the answer

Apparently we're paying the Sunni's 600 per mth to side with the US. If you can't win their hearts and minds, you can always buy them. (like tax cuts)

avatar
Reply

Are you trying to make us look smarter than we are? It's working.

avatar
Reply

i agree with all you said... all except "puks" that is...

people, we HAVE to stop making it personal. thats whats wrong with america. EVERY issue has become an ethical or moral issue to both sides.

if someone disagreed with you before, they just had a different opinion. now, its all become moral... so, of course, YOUR position (WHATEVER it is) is the correct, and therefore moral one. and those that disagree are no longer just of a different opinion, now they are immoral. and we certainly cant compromise with people who are immoral, can we?

THAT is a large part of why nothing gets done for the good of the people these days...

avatar
Reply

I agree with you, IcCaRus, on the personal attacks!

Politics these days is a lot more about "posturing" and character assassination than it is about "taking a stand" in that which you believe (without that "stand" being at the expense of "the other side of the aisle).

As far as what gets done/does not get done for the good of the people, I will post the following quote:

"It's amazing what gets done when no-one is concerned who gets the credit..." ---Ronald Reagan

avatar
Reply

we won WWII by throwing enough man power and money at it. So, was that bad foreign policy too?

Personally I think that if a person wants to be on welfare, they should have to sign over their power of attorney to the government to ensure that the peoples money isn't wasted.

We pay Europe tons of money each year too. SO, what's your point?

"One of the scariest things about this more rabid Left is how they will jump to Putin's defense over anything"

excuse me???? in case you forgot (more likely a case of denial), that foreign policy disaster known as the Duh-cider "looked into Putins eyes" and saw a good man, a man he could work with. do you NOT remember that, or are you just another apologist (denier)?

btw, real classy that "rabid" reference. however, YOU seem to be frothing.

avatar
Reply

I never said I was classy, nor that I wasn't rabid or frothing.

avatar

id settle for honest... it was bush that cozied up to Putin, not the Dems.

avatar
Reply

I never said the Dems were the problem.

avatar
Reply

Wow, leftists can't read either. He never said Dems or Bush in anything. See, if you guys would read, instead of letting some schmuck with a microphone tell you what to believe, you may, just may, learn something. But then you would be confronted with the fact that you are a dripping.... Oh well, no need to be as vulgar as a leftist. I have more class than that.

avatar
Reply

Yeah, I'm also liking Mitt and Rudy pretty well. Kind of going back and forth with Huckabee too. Problem with Huckabee is he's gotten a bit unpredictable lately with some of the things he says.

avatar
Reply

Huckabee's a nice enough guy but he's a liberal.

avatar
Reply

Seriously? I thought he seemed like the most conservative of the bunch.

avatar
Reply

lol, nope. Mike Huckabee is very liberal on immigration, taxes, and spending.

avatar
Reply

Well, I'm just glad there's still time to research the candidates some more before the primaries. I'd certainly like to make a well-informed decision. Thanks for the heads-up, Alpha.

avatar
Reply

I don't like huckabees flip flopping either. I'm just going to wait and see if Guiliana stays firm and his positions "solidify."it's getting close tothe time where the field will narrow and what a candidate says will stick to them. Less room for flopping.
