"We make this endorsement on the basis of much research, having interviewed Sen. Thompson and some of his opponents, as well as examining what they have all said and done. We conclude that Thompson is a solid conservative whose judgment is grounded in our principles.

Thompson's record is solid on voting to preserve gun owners' rights, cut taxes, reduce government spending and drill for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

We like the way Thompson unhesitatingly attacks the liberal ideologues and their activists such as MoveOn.org and the ACLU, and the way he reaches out to those we knew as the Reagan Democrats.

As the primaries and debates speed by, we would like to see Sen. Thompson continue to invigorate his campaign to carry him successfully through Tsunami Tuesday and to nomination at the Republican convention."

Thanks Alpha but you're clogging my head(no comments please:)It's a good article and have been reading a lot of what he's said.I really like a lot of his domestic agenda but still have a VERY HUGE CONCERN of him as a world leader. Just don't know at this minute.

I really endorse his statements about the FAR left, but can't rule him out. Practically though, I kind of doubt his candidacy can stay "invigorated"(meaning cash)to make him last. That wouldn't keep me from voting for him, but unfortunately the cash cows get set pretty early. But you never know.Open mind is the rule.

BTW-Whoever put the word "CIVIL" in the ACLU:)

FRED has a solid conservative record, and a solid conservative platform, a slow start, according to the MSM, he's running his own campaign. expert to hear and see a lot of FRED and the FRED HEADS now that it's time to do the deal.

and the "civil" in ACLU is code for "communists" who founded it.

Great. If the "communist" fits, wear it.

Nixon said it best himself, Fred Thompson is a total dumbass. AG, you are way off on this just as you were with all your rah rah 'Joe Biden' articles recently.

"Conservatives have to win this election" ... they do? Why is that? So they can put the final nails in all our coffins? Continue destroying America where Bushtard left off?

All you right wingers have had your eight years, 12 if you count Delay's congress, to put your policies to work and see what they do.

We have deficits as far as the eye can see, military depleted and stuck in a civil war, nation building that your beloved Bush swore he wouldn't do, recession, upcoming depression here at home, Katrina aftermath left unhandled, and you want more of that?

Noooo thank you. You are facing massive rejection this time, that's why you see low Republican turn out in the primaries, only 1 in 5 are happy with the Republican front runners. They ONLY way you canwin is to steal it, and Rove and Gonzo are out of that game.

Yes, faithful little Bushtard, put your head shamefully back in the sand and go back to sleep, you have nothing to be proud of, nothing to say ...

A lib quoting Nixon? I've lived to see everything...and nothing judging from the content of this post. Fred is the only Conservative choice on the ballot.

Actually, I have heard of several other suggested and "apropos" acronym interpretations for the letters ACLU:

American Criminal Lawyers Union

Anti-Christian Liars Union

and All Criminals Love Us

You may pick (or discard) any you like/not like, since it's still a free country.....

avatar
Reply

Here's one I heard,

America's crooked lawyer's union.

Not that all lawyers are there are some good ones, these just seem to ask for people to dislike them with their selective justice.

avatar
Reply

At any rate guys:

It's not American...

It's not civil...

It's not for liberty...

It creates disunion.

The solution? Fred Thompson sounds good. -Rev. S

since it's still a free country...

Thanks in part to the ACLU

They have represented some fine conservative Christian organizations like the KKK.

avatar
Reply

Are we still free?, or are they letting us play a game.

avatar
Reply

We are becoming less free every day.

The ACLU has come to the aid of many organizations when they have been discriminated against. The Republicans since George HW Bush would have you think that they only attack Christians.

Yeah, but will he be awake...

Will he notice economy is not doing very well....

Will he notice we are 53T$ in debt and can not cut taxes, not can we afford existing tax breaks.

Will he let China to continue to bankrupt us to support Globalists?

Thats mostly because you don't listen.

Will bring troops home from iraq, and discontinue money pit.

Reduce influence of special interest groups. Ban no bid contracts.

Limited or very limited healthcare plans. Allow fed gov neg drug prices instead of paying retail ( aka crook Bush method )

Remove tax breaks from oil companies.

Obama proposing remove tax breaks from offshoring companies, and give em to small businesses. Close offshore tax havens.

Invest in energy independence.

Enforce congress pay as you go rules for fiscal responsibility. And against raising US debt limit.

Edwards proposing medicare alike healthplan to run in parallel with private plans.

And

Fred proposing, oh wait nothing.

You're getting a Democrat in 08, it's just a matter of which one. Democrats are raising more money, generating more votes in early elections, and creating greater buzz. So far, Obama has the greater crossover appeal to independents, the young, and reluctant voters. The mention of Reagan Democrats is interesting in that the senator from Illinois is creating Obama Republicans. If he can overcome the centrist and Blue Dog Democrats for the nomination who's going to stop him?

avatar
avatar
Reply

I like the Chauncey Gardiner reference. It's true there's more style than substance to Obama. His policies are not revolutionary. He will be vetted because that's what independents like rdy2rck do.

So, ultimately the problem is with the Republicans. They offer more of what Bush has been selling, and no one's buying. No one wants another GWB. 06 was about Bush, if he had been on that ballot he'd be an ex-president right now.

That's why even Republicans are talking change on the campaign trail, and no one's buying that either, especially when the GOP primaries seem to be the conservatives using the process of elimination to find someone who's as close to Bush as they can possibly get.

avatar
Reply

I don't know what Republicans you're talking about but I can only speak for myself. I am not looking for another George Bush, I'm looking for a candidate that comes closest to our conservative values. And I think Washington IS broken, that's why I think we need to clean house, get out all the incumbents and start with some new blood. Here are the candidates that are NOT incumbents:

Former Senator John Edwards

Former Senator Fred Thompson

Gov. Mitt Romney

Gov. Mike Huckabee

Mayor Rudy Giuliani

Have I missed anyone? : )

avatar

Of course, George W. Bush was the ultimate conservative. He embodied all the attributes the ideal conservative candidate should have. He was the one, until he wasn't. He was also, technically, a Washington outsider as Governor of Texas.

So, now who is the one?

avatar
Reply

Why, Fred Thompson, of course.

avatar
Reply

Well, we just went around in a circle didn't we. Fred Thompson, the former US Senator and Washington lobbyist is the next Bush, the next champion of conservative values that will lead the Republicans to victory because he will succeed where Bush failed. That's a tough sell in this climate of change, but good luck with it :)

avatar
Reply

Well raiderwall, if we didn't want someone with conservative values, then we would be Democrats and vote for liberal values! But we're not, we're conservatives. So we will vote for someone who holds our values close to us. Just because someone is a conservative does NOT mean they are going to govern the same way as their predecessor. Fred Thompson is no neocon. And Ronald Reagan was a champion of conservative values and he was nowhere near like George Bush so that throws your logic out the door!

avatar
Reply

How is Fred Thompson not a neo-con? Reagan was a champion of American values, at least that's how he phrased it. But really, where do Fred Thompson and George W. Bush differ?

avatar
Reply

I smiled when McCain said to liar Romney, I think we agree that you are the candidate for change, and laughed.

Obviously none (ex Paul ) is talking real changes.

They typical anti-everything do nothing republicans.

I found it was funny that Fred was attacking Hack for actually proposing something.

avatar
Reply

GO FRED!

avatar
Reply

Raider, just because Fred is strong on national security doesn't mean he's a neocon. He's more of a Reagan conservative.

avatar
Reply

AG, Thompson has fully supported Bush. In what ways does Thompson distinguish himself from Bush?

If you don't know, that's okay, most people would have a hard time telling the difference between the rhetoric of Bush and Thompson.

avatar
Reply

Maybe because they have the same conservative values?

avatar
Reply

Alpha,

Just for the record, would you please state your list of conservative values? Maybe then we can see how cornflake Freddie stacks up!

From the face of it, he looks nothing but a do nothing Senator from Tennessee who literally did nothing during his years in the Senate and has nothing but platitudes in his "positions".

I have never seen such an "empty suite" candidate in a long, long time!

If Conservatives want to rise from the ashes, they will need a real Phoenix, and not a turkey, to carry their message!!

Peace and Blessings!

How is Fred different from Bush:

Fred is for cutting entitlement spending, not INCREASING it as Bush has done.

Fred is for cutting spending, not increasing it, as Bush as done. He demonstrated this by continually voting AGAINST spending bills, even extremely popular ones, many times being just one of a handful to vote NO, going against conventional wisdom.

Fred actually put himself on the line by sponsoring a bill to privatize Social Security, while Bush just talked about it, but never submitted a proposal to Congress.

Fred has said he would commute the sentences of Ramos and Compean upon taking office, thus releasing, and would consider pardoning them after examining the court record, while Bush has refused to do so, so far, and seems to side with the prosecutor, his friend, Johnny Sutton, and the illegal drug smuggler who was given a pass to continue smuggling drugs across the border while testifying against our two Border Patrol agents.

Fred is for building the fence, nuf said

Alpha,

I've heard TOO MANY so-called 'conservatives' calling Fred a 'do-nothing', but if you look at JUST his Senate career, you see the record of a courageous legislator, not afraid to vote AGAINST seemingly overwhelmingly popular new SPENDING programs. Check out the White Paper on him by the Club For Growth:

http://www.clubforgrowth.org/2007/09/fred_thomp...

This doesn't even cover the fact that as a lawyer, he PERSONALLY brought down a corrupt Tennessee governer and the entire corrupt state administration.

The qualities of bravery and courage to go against the grain ARE NOT LACKING in Fred Thompson, that is for certain!

So, Freddie now, sounds a lot like Bush in 2000.

It's all talk.

Well ace, I haven't decided definitively on a candidate yet and I'm just riding this year's campaign wave. I am an undecided voter. I have been watching them all and I want to educate us as much as possible. I've even submitted articles about Democrats. We'll just have to see where it goes and I can't wait to see where I land! :D

It is difficult for Republicans to choose a candidate. We have several outstanding ones, and we look for more then gender, and color. All of our candidates are leaders, intelligent, experienced, and have American values. We will choose in time to pick the winner in November.
