"Take a quick trip down memory lane. Less than a year ago, Sen. McCain was one of the leaders crafting a "comprehensive" mass amnesty bill behind closed doors. He, along with Kennedy, Obama and Clinton, blocked every attempt to amend the bill with any measures to decrease the damage it would have done."

Glad to see you got your laundry done last night.

Fresh start for today,...eh? =D

Romney is 180 degrees with McCain on that topic. I'd rather have a Morman and not Mexicans running this country!! Oh yeah, I'm a Democrat that will be voting for the candidate that is most againt illegals

AlphaGnosis----I just have to ask. What has our current CIC, the one you so dearly love, done about immigration? What has he done about abortion? Do you still give him your unqualified support, or have you eyes been opened?

"Instead of building some fencing and hiring some agents, why not set goals of reducing illegal entry to a trickle? Or reducing the illegal population in four years by 75 percent through both removals and enforcement-driven attrition?

By any reasonable definition, McCain's recipe constitutes amnesty. It allows nearly all illegal aliens to remain permanently in America. It lets them obtain a permanent resident visa and naturalize five years later. It rewards them with the job they came and stole, taxpayer-funded benefits and programs, tax credits, welfare and Social Security. It allows them to sponsor distant relatives and start their own migration chains."

Here is the link to Numbers USA and candidates on immigration...Mccains rating is "ABYSMAL" I think that speaks for it self.

you said it, abysmal. Here's his report card on immigration.

"In short, McCain has one of the worst grades of any Republican Senator concerning immigration. His overall career and recent Americans for Better Immigration grades are both Ds. On amnesty, he earns F. His congressional record on immigration ABI calls "abysmal."

McCain's record is more in line with Democrat candidates."

You obviously have not listened to Michael Medved. He proves this was not an amnesty bill.

Somehow I can't understand his argument. He talks about all the hoops they have to jump through to become citizens. What I looked at was they just sign a paper and they are legal. To me that is amnesty.

This is just one of several problems I have with McCain.

avatar
Reply

I have yet to hear Medved say that. Wierd, last summer he was against the bill too. Although when it comes to anti-illegal immigration talk, Laura Ingraham is top notch!

I listen to her every night, tang. She kills me, lol. :D

Pretty much the only time I ever watch the O'Reily factor is when she is subbing for Bill. She has her way with every nutcase that has the guts to go toe to toe with her.

Yes, McCain's record does constitutes amnesty. He and John Kyl's attitude toward this issue has really taken a negative toll on their state of Arizona. He should be horse whipped for what he has NOT done to protect the good people that elected him. Now all of a sudden his wants to build a fence because he KNOWS immigration issues are the HOT BUTTON TOPIC with about 99.9% of the citizens of the USA. I say John you've had since September 12th 2001 to build a fence, you and all the other D.C. blowhards have sat on your rumps and done nothing. You not only let your voters down, you've let the American people down by putting us in danger because of the 'unknowns' that are in this country.

Back in December of 2007 Tom Tancredo, who has since had to drop out of the race, had an that draws a link between illegal immigration and Central and South American gang violence that has come to the United States. The commercial begins with images of bloody, dead bodies of 28 people reportedly killed by gang members in Honduras and says the same type of violence has come to the U.S. with illegal immigrants. "It's strong, I knowbut there's no way to sugar-coat it," Tancredo, a Colorado Republican said of the ad's violent imagery. "It's terrorism of another sort," Tancredo said of violent acts committed by some illegal immigrants. "They terrorize our cities. They terrorize our families." Too bad he wasn't better known he might have made a good President. McCain is a fooler, he is using this issue to get the nomination.

I think he's been in bed with crooked politicians far too long. Now he's acting more and more like them. Sorry he won't have my vote. And I'm getting low on candidates. I admire him for his military record. BUT, He needs to understand the needs of the American people as a whole. When a person running for the highest job in the country is more concerned with Illegals. More than his own country men then I say we don't need him.

I agree with you there

He hasn't just been in bed with them, he is one of them

He's been in Washington far too long

Google - Keating Five and do some reading

"The ethics committee's investigation focused on five senators: Alan Cranston (D-CA); Dennis DeConcini (D-AZ); John Glenn (D-OH); John McCain (R-AZ); and Donald W. Riegle, Jr. (D-MI), who became known as the Keating Five."

In my opinion there are NO good choices in this election

Alpha, you've outlined some good points.Even though my heart bleeds for those who suffer. McCains out for me.I can think of a harsh solution costing billions, but we can't be "The breadbasket of the World."Wish we could. But logically we need to take care of our own millions of hungry. Sound selfish?Maybe.Wish we could feed everyone, but a nation needs to take care of itself to remain vital.

Where I volunteer, we were already overwhelmed serving 1200 families per month, but our Mexican population here in the Mid West has swelled so much that we are now serving 3200 families a month. This results in everyone getting way less food and doesn't sustain anyone.

With the Mexicans as a BIG power block, I can't imagine any politician having the guts to take action.

avatar

You need to have that bleeding heart checked.

avatar
Reply

Don't need to.I think you misread me. I believe in harsh solutions for a BIG problem, need to take care of our own first(build a wall, exportation of illegals),but my compassion for those who suffer of any race for any reason will never change. It's a heart but also looks at reality which means we need to take care of our own first

One of the most important issues of the 08 election is Immigration Reform. Sen McCain fails badly on that one. He promoted Amnesty, when his own state has been invaded more then others. He is also a Tax increaser, and in that shady grey area about gay marriage. Add the fact he is 71 years old, and you have an election loser. Republicans cannot afford to lose in November. The security of America rides on keeping the W H in Republican hands.

avatar

I agree for the fact that the dems control Congress. This may cause gridlock but it also keeps a "balance" in that too radical proposals from either side are kept checked. But I will still vote my conscious as best I can no matter what party.

avatar

You are absolutely right. In the Federalists Papers, Alexander Hamilton refers to political parties as factions He advocates factions as another check enhancing the checks and balances incorporated in our Constitution.

Ani.."The security of America rides on keeping the W H in Republican hands."Haven't you taken a look around at what is happening. If anything,it is almost vital for the security, maybe even the survival,of this country to get this country out of the hands of the republicans and into the hands of the democrats. We need to restore the rule of law,the constitution and our standing in the world.

We are at war and the moron in charge has proven that him and his republican buds are not capable of doing anything but putting us more at risk.

Our military is at the breaking point, our guys are going back for their fourth tours,we can't keep up with the replacement of equipment,we are losing ground in Afghanistan, being bankrolled by China, and the moron wants to start another war with Iran,we can't secure our own borders and the constitution is just a "goddamn piece of paper"and you say the security of our country should remain with these war profiteers. That is insane.

((the constitution is just a "goddamn piece of paper"))

That has never been proven. It only came from one source (Capitol Blue Hill) and it was just hearsay. : )

The Gay Marriage issue does not belong in the US Constitution. The Constitution is about the powers of Government and the Rights granted to the people.

The Constitution should not be used to force our religious values on others. The Gay Marriage Amendment sets a dangerous precedent. It may be the first small step towards destroying our liberties and freedom.

"By contrast, Fred Thompson flat-out promises to veto any amnesty bill. At the YouTube debate, he said, "Yes. I will pledge that." He then got specific on what enforcement means to him: "We've go to strengthen the border, we've got to enforce the border, we've got to punish the employers who will not obey the law, and we've go to eliminate sanctuary cities and say to sanctuary cities, 'If you continue this, we're going to cut off federal funding for you. You're not going to do it with federal money.'"

The Atlanta newspaper quoted Thompson's reasonable enforcement approach: "They set up a false choice, either we get giant busloads of people tomorrow, and round them all up, or we have to grant amnesty. Attrition by enforcement is what makes the most sense."

avatar
Reply

Fred Thompson should be thankful that his ancestors came to the US before immigration became a campaign issue.

I don't understand that comment. He has never said he is against immigration. He is against illegal immigration. Big difference.

"The senator (John McCain) is quoted as saying: 'Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here and pay taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it.'"

And how are they paying taxes exactly, Mr. McCain? They have no SS cards, when I filled out my W-4 I had to put my SS# on the form. And I know every time I file my taxes, I have to give them my SS#. So...Mr. McCain?

avatar
Reply

When they spend their under the table wages, they do pay sales taxes...probably what he is talking about, no?

avatar

McCain has forgotten what happened the day his and Kennedy's bill flopped! All of the candidates need to listen to the people; No Amnesty!

I heard the same excuses for giving amnesty, the first time amnesty was given to millions of people who were here illegally! Allowing more cheap labor with the current lack of living waged jobs, will only reduce wages and push our current economy further into recession, if not a depression!

Thanks AG!

You may not believe this,or want to believe this, but illegal immigration is just as important to democrats as it is to republicans.I for one(and i know i'm not the only dem. that feels this way)want our borders secured, air tight.I do not want amnesty in any way shape or form.I want all those that are here illegally to either be removed or made to go through the proper channels, and pay fines to become citizens. It is a slap in the face to those of us that are citizens, that served and protected this country, and to those that came here legally and went through the proper ways to become citizen. The thought of giving citizenship to people just because they are here is wrong on so many levels that i can't even start.

So the next time someone says that all dem. think this or that about certain subjects, ask one ..you might be surprised.

Ricky I agree up to a certain point. A person we elect should be able to recognize all these issues. And put forth their best idea on how to solve it. I'm tired of the last 40 years of Presidental crap.

Well ricky if we deported the 20 million illegals that are currently leaching off our system wouldn't that give us some more cash? I know one Ga hospital spends 50 million a year on illegals!

add Parkland Hospital to that.

OMG, you are right Ranch. I forgot the number that our ABC affilate here along with the Fox station here that ran a report on this in 2006 and a follow up report in 2007. I know it was close to 90% of the patients that come into Parkland are illegals.

Even though Parkland has one of the best burn units in the country. Try going into the emergency clinic there and when they look at you (average wait time is approximtely 8 hours) They find that you are from the U.S. You better have your insurance card on you. Or you wait some more. If you are an illegal they will actually see you before a citizen. But never ask for those insurance cards.

I will go to Baylor(the original one) everytime. The hell with Parkland.

I wish they would say more also ranchhand.Believe me,i have a lot of issues with our democrat leaders.

Of course maybe we aren't hearing all that they are saying.
