"Fred Thompson is surging in South Carolina, just as expected," said Campaign Manager Bill Lacy. "As South Carolina voters focus on Saturday's primary election, they agree that Fred is the true conservative in this race who can bring together the Reagan Coalition of limited government and strong national security."

According to the Rasmussen survey, "Over the past several days, the only real movement in South Carolina's Republican Presidential Primary has been a four-point gain for Fred Thompson and a five-point decline for Mike Huckabee."

The new poll results come on the heels of Sen. Thompson's winning debate performance last Thursday, which received praise from Rush Limbaugh, Bill Bennett and virtually every conservative blog and pundit."

ROTFLMAO! I can't believe your still doing this Thompson thing. He's got one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel. I don't think Thompson even really wants to run. It's his wife's idea, and she pushing this poor man daily to run. He really just wants to stay home and enjoy his wife and kids in his old age. Let him rest in Peace.

Thompson '08 (snicker, snicker)

AG, i'm sorry, but i agree with jov!

I think this run for the WH is Fred's wife's idea, she wants to be the first lady, but i ain't mad at her.

He only gets up some steam every now and then, probably when she has given him hell.

I actually feel kinda sorry for him. I think he wants to be a family man at this point in his life.

Now how can we possibly know what's going on in their household and what they talk about behind closed doors? No one knows that. And what proof do we have that his wife is making him run? All that is just speculation. We DO know that he has said that he's running because he wants to do this for his kids and his grandchildren.

I think Fred is just getting warmed up. ; )

We/I don't know, it's all speculation, on all our parts.

The reason i said what i did was because of his occasional lack of interest, and sometimes acting as though he preferred to be anywhere other than the debates or campaigning.

I guess i am used to a more "gung ho" or "in your face" type of candidate, and he's certainly not that. It doesn't prove anything though!

You're right, he's not. His style is definitely more laid back. I liked what I saw Thursday night, though! And from what I'm hearing, he's not letting up. I just hope it's enough. Keep the race interesting! :D

He just may be the best choice of all the republican contenders, i had said at one time that i liked Ron Paul, but i have been doing a lot of research on him and he's not what he appears to be.

There are a lot of websites out there that has exposed him as a bigot or much worse.

You know, I heard that, N2N! Something about his old flyers that he endorsed and sometimes wrote? Quite interesting, indeed.

This is what the smear machine has on Ron Paul...

A racist donated $500 and Paul won't return it,saying he would use the money to spread his message of democracy instead of returning it to a hater.A newsletter with Paul's name on it published some racist remarks,Paul did not write them and does not agree with them.

How about something straight from the horses mouth?...

"A newsletter with Paul's name on it published some racist remarks,Paul did not write them and does not agree with them."

The "newsletter with Paul's name on it" was his official congressional newsletter to his constituents mailed out at taxpayer expense with his name in lieu of a stamp.

Even if you buy his argument that he didn't write them, why would his staffers write racist stuff for him if they didn't think that was his sentiment? If it was not his sentiment, at the very least it shows pretty bad judgement on his part to hire racists and then let them write his newsletters.

He has had a reputation as a racist and a favorite of the white supremacy crowd here in Texas for years. He can stand there and disavow all of that, but you have to wonder to what extent "Dr. No" would go to occupy the White House.

Well, just view the video ,why was he reelected so many times? Is his whole district racist? Why is the NAACP defending him?

avatar

I have seen the video and read his disclaimers. As to his "whole district," you do realize where it is don't you?

I have never heard of the NAACP defending this guy. If they are, they are being very forgiving and trustful.

Do a little research and see for yourself. I am not making up the origins of the pamphlets, they are his congressional newsletters. I am not making up the reputation either, it has been around for years, probably based on the pamphlets.

Thompson does better in states where there are only Republicans voting in the Republican primaries. Imagine that, a Republican candidate who actually embodies Conservative values. Been a while since we've had that.

avatar
Reply

I hope he does well in SC. A new winner in every state. Lets make them spend lots of money beating each other bloody while the 3 leading dems were having a friendly ass kissing contest tonight instead of a debate. You all are in a hate fest while the dems love all their horses.

Are you talking about the same group of Dems running for President this time around? Funny stuff!

Right,

the 2008 election is almost over for sleeping beauty. For drop-dead-Fred it is already over. He did not want the job anyway.

His chance to win presidency as high as for Marilyn Manson to win AMA.

He raised a considerable sum of money in the last week and South Carolina is coming up. Maybe communication skills matter, but I guess when Hitlery is your pick you wouldn't know much about that.

Alpha, we get it, you adore Fred Thompson. The minute I observed the heading I said, "that's a Alpha article".

Plastering Fred Thompson over this site will change nada, Fred, including all Republicans haven't a snow balls chance in hell in winning the highest office of the land, AGAIN. Well until the Democrats screw up after their in. One thing Bush did right is make your party, which is not truly Republican anyway, an abomination for consideration again.

Fred Thompson, you have got to jesting, are you Alpha, are you having fun with all us bloggers. Is this sarcasm?

avatar

That's a way to tell 'em, Nellie. Because everyone knows that the only serious politician in this race is Hillary. Her experience and record clearly show that she represents hope and democracy. And change.

avatar

lovemylibs, Obama for me and if you know me so well you would have the knowledge to be aware of my despise for Hillary and her "Experience" that got us into the present mess. That goes for almost every representative both Republican and Democrat. Obama for President. If his rhetoric does not match his performance, another Bush then and out he goes. Well unless American apathy prevails and another four years occurs of dictatorial decisive dengerate leadership prevails.

FRED THOMPSON PICKS UP KEY EVANGELICAL ENDORSEMENT

Fred Thompson picked up an endorsement sure to help in the battle with Mike Huckabee for conservatives at the next battle for primary votes: Michigan.

Evangelical author, David Jeffers, not only came out with an endorsement for Thompson, he was effusive in his praise for the former Senator from Tennessee.

He also provided a counterweight to those how might be leaning towards opponent, Mike Huckabee, listing reasons why Thompson was a better choice for evangelicals in the Bible Belt, or Jesusland.

Conservative, Christian Evangelical voters are a key voting group, especially for the upcoming South Carolina primary. Thompson will battle Huckabee for this important Republican voting segment.

Jeffers offered Evangelicals plenty of reasons for choosing Thompson over Huckabee.

What were they?

"Thompson's fund raising numbers continue to show a surge as well. Yesterday I noted that Thompson, since reaching a previously set fund raising goal for South Carolina, had raised another $212,000 since. In just over 24 hours since that post it would seem as though Thompson has raised another $114,000 by the figures posted on his website."

http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId...

And he reached his million dollar mark before the deadline at midnight last night and has reached a total now of $1,053,580.

That's a lot of money raised since the debate. : )

I'll use money numbers over poll numbers any day.I think it's a much better statistic than the polls show.

But the evershifting poll numbers bring up a theory of mine.I think there are 3 types of voters in America. people voting based on information as best they can, people who mindlessly vote strict party lines(i.e.-because "that's what my dad did", union support.), and uninformed people who vote just on polls( especially surges) because they figure the candidate must be saying something good.

Anybody got any comments on my theory?:)

Not too bad, I agree on the first two categories and you could be right about people who vote because of poll numbers but I'm not sure I've ever met any of those. Of course, it doesn't mean they aren't out there. lol

LOL-The third is a hybrid of mine. I should have added to the poll numbers sound bites and ads too:)

Plus now we have to add in some where people that see it's on You Tube and automatically believe it's "news."Now that I've seen.LOLOLOLOL:)

If every conservative voter realizes Fred Thompson is the only real Conservative in the race, and votes for him, he will be the nominee. He is experienced. He believes in his message, and so do I. The Presidential election is still 10 months away. Ah, but cha he beat Hillary, or Barak Hussein Obama? In a N Y minute.
