Pelosi and Reid have failed America »
Posted by: jovial 7 months, 1 week agoBy now it should be crystal clear that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are totally unfit for the leadership positions that they hold in Congress; and so the members of the House and Senate should take immediate steps to force them to resign or to remove them from their positions.

Did you see that weak State of the Union reply? Feingold gave a better one. I provide it here.

Fiengold? I'm from Wisconsin, the state of broken promises. Russ promised no to run more that twice, because he wasn't a "career" politicians. Yea, right... With the McCain/Fiengold incombent finance package and money flowing in from questionable sources, he's in for life.
To explain Russ, he's a huge tax and spend liberal. He beleives that you can't do anything for yourself and that only the government should make any choices for you no matter what. As to his lack of supporting the troops, he's a huge cut and run guy too. He has neither the support of the VFW nor the Legion. Let's get him to run for VP so we can get rid of him here.

I have to disagree with the story.
For six years we have repuking control of the house, senate, and presidency and they accomplished - nothing.
As appealing as impeachment sounds - it will be a big distraction. But I do agree that Nancy and Reid should stand up to white house. It would have been very positive if they de-funded Guantanamo Bay Jails.
I am hoping Reid will not allow Fisa with Bush immunity for phone companies that clearly should not be allowing access to phone lines prior to 9/11. No immunity for past crimes.

Sorry I am not going to help the Republicans split the democratic party in two. You want the democratic congress accomplish more you need a larger majority. Simple as that it doesn't matter who you make speaker under the current circumstances their hands will be just as tied as Pelosi and Reid. Not going to by into this junk that is only being put out there to divide the dems during the 2008 election cycle.

That's not true at all. While I would never want to help the DNC, Harry and Nancy have hurt the party by their inability to work with anyone. They both hold the majority. The GOP has still has a ton of Rhinos that will go in whatever the direction the wind is blowing. What does your leadership do? Harry pontificates and last summer Nancy tried playing Secretary of State, in clear violation of the Constitution.
The GOP needs a new captain and will probably get one soon. The DNC however has some major problems. They're in charge but they can't get anything done. It's almost the way it was in 1976 when Carter was in power. Worst case, the DNC will get the White House, Senate and Congress for 1 term. When they find they can't do anything the American people will bring the GOP back in force. Then we'll see another Reagan era with a new leader.

POP QUIZ: How many votes does it take to achieve cloture? How many votes does you need to override a presidential veto?
Now, how many votes do registered Democrats have in each chamber of Congress?
Do the math.

Thanks Redstate, the author said a mojority in the Senate, yet it is 49-49-2 with one of the two being the Bush kisser lieberman. So, the author than puts all Dumya's failures on the Congress... when the real problem remains to be the corrupt Senate Repubilicans who back Dumya's vetos and would insure that an impeachment conviction would never happen to Dumya!

Yea Donald. I hear what you're saying, but did the vote really go that way? Was it really 49-49-2 when it came down to it. No it wasn't. Some Democrats jumped ship and went to the other side. Why? If the deadlock needed to be broken it should have been done by Lieberman and Cheney. Not people from the democratic party.

Interesting that the dems can't muster enough leadership (in its purest form) to persuade their opponents to work with them. I recall when Pelosi and Reid took over, they were going to do wonderful things...now we see that they have accomplished absolutely nothing and you want to blame the repubs...ludicrous!
Reply-

while the Repugs demand party loyalty and no voting by conscience or the rule of law... the Dems do... such is one of the major differences between the two parties. One could let Hitler take over... while the other could never let it happen!
Absolutely nothing? If they at least convinced Dumya not to attack Iran based on lies... they have already accomplished more thean the failed "Do Nothing", 109th Repug Congress. Dems didn't submit almost 20,000 earmarks of the bridges to nowhere kind that the the Repugs submitted and Dumya signed without a second thought in 2006!

well ramblingwreck...why didn't your buddie GWB persuade the american people? Don't lecture us on weakness when you have a lame duck president who proved he couldn't reach across party lines because he wanted to be the supreme ruler.
Lets face it dude, the republicans had both houses and the presidency, what good have they done for america besides screw it up and put us in debt.

And it's interesting that the previous record for filibusters over a two year period was 57, but over a one year period, the republicans filibustered 62 times. With a Republican president, there is only one reason for the republicans to filibuster like they did....purely political, to make it look like congress wasn't doing anything

Like what? Higher taxes, more government control of our personal lives, the government choosing our doctor for us, massive spending increases (Beyond the republican spending spree to smooze the Democrat(ic)s. Remember when Bush came into office he offered the Democrat(ic)s an olive branch with the Education bill. What did that get him. It has been exactly the same way just reverse. Tom Daschle became know as the "Obstructionist" and lost not only the leadership but his seat. For all the people who want Checks & Balances the opposition whatever side it comes from is just that the rest is partisan Rhetoric. Senate is divided 49-49-2 with Lieberman voting almost always Democrat(ic) even though they threw him out of the party. If the veto pen was not there? If the Republicans or the democrats wern't there. WTF are you talking about?

Why take impeachment off the table? Why continue to fund the war with no timetable? Why continue allowing the eavesdropping without a warrant and granting immunity to those who broke the law? There were many Democrats that voted against these things, but there were quite a few "enablers". A leader should have the ability to unite their party and fight for the principles their party support. Call it divisive, Call it junk or whatever. I call it a mass deception perpetrated against their own constituency.

Jovial, I'm so very tired of hearing impeachment. If your folks have neither the family jewels nor the actual evidence for impeachment, get over it and stop wasting our time. If you can't get Harry and Nancy to do their jobs, then replace them.
You want real change, find a way to stop buy foreign oil. Now don't start with your "conservation" crap, that's not how you're going to grow this economy. We need to build refineries here and start converting coal and shale. Stop playing with ethanol, it's a total waste of energy. Wind will never be able to support itself, we need new nuke plants.
But then again, if Congress actually came out with a real energy plan, that would mean they actually did something. It's more fun for the non-binding resolutions and attacking the military with cut backs. It sells well in Tehran so it works the the DNC.

Who cares what you're tired of hearing! They have the damn impeachment articles. It's Pelosi stonewalling the damn bill that keep it from going anywhere. I hate self righteous people telling me, "Well if they had the evidence, they'd be tripping over themselves to put it out there." I say, BS! The articles are there, the crimes have been well known for some time now, just no one wanted to do anything about it for POLITICS. You claim that Bush/Cheney did nothing wrong. Yet every investigation has been thwarted in the interests of "national security". If Clinton and Nixon would have taken that same stance they wouldn't have been impeached either. Now let's tackle this energy issue you introduced. Just like the Iraq War, you guys want something for nothing. Big Iraq war, more troops, cut taxes, go shopping. What ever happened to sacrifice? If you want to cut oil dependency you have to make sacrifices. If that means driving a Honda. OH WELL!

Let me give you answers. If we got into impeachment then like the republicans did with Clinton we would waste over a year and nothing of importance could get done.
Funding the war is an issue of not leaving our troops over there without the support in equipment and supplies they need. You can't with a president who acts as Bush does defund the war without getting know as leaving the troops out there with no assistance. Only ones who want the money stopped without a commitment to bring the troops home are those who hope the democratic party will kill itself on that issue.
Nobody has been granded any immunity to break the law. The current proposal to continue the power to work without a warrant is being held up in the senate over just that reason with only the republicans wanting to do what say is wrong.
No a leader should not unite their party if like the repubicans do it means you vote the party way no matter what. Democrats favor and allow concience which is good.

What of importance got done? A troop surge? A n economy in shambles? A higher dependency on oil? Health care costs still outpacing inflation. No set immigration policy? A dwindling middle class? Stopping to impeach this President is not an inconvenience, it's the duty of this Congress. They owe it to the constituency that put them in office. So, sell that to someone else. Impeachment should have begun immediately, and should have been right on the top of congresses agenda!

One is a gutless wonder - Nancy!
The other is a nutless wonder - Harry!
You add a dumb-ass occupant of the WH, and what do you get?
A perfect slop!
Don't tell me that Nancy and Harry couldn't take the case to the people, raising hell about the incompetency of the President and the obstructionism of the Republican minority!
Tip O'Neil knew how to whip asses, and so did Sam Ervin, Jr.
They had guts!
Harry and Nancy should get into quilting and basket-weaving, where they may not do too much damage.

For the next Congress, I propose Congresswoman Louise Slaughter as Speaker and Sen. Webb as Senate Majority Leader.
Louise is that spunky Chairperson of House Rules Committee and she has run a very tight ship. This lady from the Appalachia knows and understands what poverty is and what it does to the mind and soul of people. Kind as an angel and tough as a nail!
Senator Webb is one of the most remarkable new members of the Senate. His son is serving in Iraq, following in his father's footsteps. He is an honorable veteran and a former officer and former Secretary of the Navy in the Reagan administration. He is one of the most knowledgeable and astute Senator with top-notch credentials and he is very articulate on all national affairs, including Defense.
These two leaders can really deliver superb and competent performance and get our country back on track.
Peace and Blessings!

Your party had a chance to elect a strong man Speaker of the House, but you are so P C, you wanted a silly woman instead. Well, she didn't know how the game is played, and it takes more then walking around looking cute. There is hard work involved. She won't be back, but since the Democrats are so inept, neither will half of them.

Charlson,
I agree with your assessment of Pelosi.
However, I would call her stupid for taking the impeachment issue off the table, even before she was sworn in as the Speaker!
For her to swear to uphold and protect the Constitution, and then take the only Constitutional recourse left to protect our country from the high crimes and misdemeanors of the President and the Vice President shows either stupidity or arrogance, or both. The mandate of '06 elections was clear. If she did not understand it, she confirms her stupidity!
Harry Reid, on the other hand, just does not have the horsepower to climb this hill. He is like the Model T Ford that had to go in reverse to climb a hill!
Bush just got lucky when these two became the leaders!

You missed my point bubba. I meant they repaired them, not hacked them. You are too suspicious. At any rate they have an inept Democrat Majority in the House, and Senate. They have had ample time to get something done, but so far they have pretty much given the President what he asked for, and I would expect the warrantless wiretap will be the same.

...Or could it be they spared the nation another round of impeachment? I'm not a big fan of either of these two but in this case doing nothing was probably best.
Let's hope whoever is next will prove by example how inept and corrupt this current bunch really is
We need to set the bar higher again!!!!
Reply-

jovial7 months, 1 week ago
Once you let one President get away you make a "precedent". So we have actually already lowered the bar. Raising the bar again isn't easy. Any time a President from now on is caught doing something wrong they'll claim "executive privilege" and point back to this administration as a precedent.

Oh please, spare the nation? Democrats want to impeach the President so badly they can taste it. They would never spare the nation if they had credible Articles of Impeachment. It is nearly impossible to Impeach a sitting President. He has to do something totally stupid, like lie under oath in a court of law.
Reply-

jovial7 months, 1 week ago
They have credible one's. President's aren't kings. You need to look up impeachable offenses. Pelosi shut down the investigation before it could get started. If all the administrations in the past had been as secretive and uncooperative as this one, not even Clinton nor Nixon would have been impeached. Clinton and Nixon had the conscience to know that what they did was wrong and accept it. Your King(President) has no conscience that's why he won't let them investigate. If he's so clear of wrongdoing, why is all that executive privilege being flaunted every time someone wants to take a peek. He's fine with getting away with it and you are an "enabler" for not being irate at what he's done to your country.

O.K. here is where I stand as an Independent! I am going to support the Democrats. The Republicans need a major SLAP DOWN after the last 7 years and I am willing to work to see that they get everything they deserve. Now if we give the Democrats what they need to turn things around and then they fail to do it I will do everything I can to give them the same SLAP DOWN that I am advocating for the Republicans. My hope is that if we keep slapping them down someday someone will get the message.

I think the article is too biased against Pelosi and Reid. I noted that the author never mentioned why Pelosi was against impeachment.
The republicans think this nation is of the people, by the people and for big business. I cannot accept this outdated failed concept. It worked 300 years ago because neighbors would help neighbors. Today, regulations and law suits prevent this help.
I want a candidate who is willing to help business and help the people. I want a candidate who respects our living document: the US Constitution!

I love it when someone writes with such conviction and such a claim to the moral high ground and then gets just basic simple facts all wrong. I guess some people think if you just keep saying it enough that it will be true.
America is not a Democracy it is a Republic, our great country is not ran by the people, it is ran by the representatives the people elect. Those representatives are allowed terms in office, if you don't like how they have represented you during those terms you have a right to cast a vote to elect someone else. If our government was based on a system that allowed an idiot like this to throw out of office everyone that he disagreed with, then that would be a Dictatorship.

Mr. Payne's story is a rant, and nothing more, that is totally devoid of any understanding of how things get done/don't get done in Washington. The Democrats were elected on the promise that they would work in a nonpartisan manner as well as encourage change. If anyone voted Democrat because they believed the Democratic leadership would run, or even encourage a cantankerous Congress, they were voting for the same kind of Congressional bullying that the Republicans used. Yes, the Bush Administration got us into this mess, now it is up to a Democratic congress to get us out, but as the Wicked Witch of the West said, "These things must be handled very delicately!"

Where were you ten years ago? Remember Monica? Hello!
YeahI know all you righties will start screaming perjury but the bottom line is he lied abbout cheating on his wife. THEIR problem NOT mine or the NATONS.
I can almost picture you in that mob with your pitch fork Annie...What a joke!
All I'm saying is that now that we have a fairly credible case for impeachment, it won't happen because the people are worn out from the nonsense over Clinton.
You might not like it or agree with the reason but I believe that is why Pelosi and co. have not made impeachment a priority here.
