Large majorities of voters believe the president has considerable sway on a range of big issues such as inflation, interest rates, the federal deficit, taxes and more. Fully three-quarters believe the president has at least some influence over health care costs, for example. Sixty-nine percent can see the president making gasoline prices go up or down.
They are less certain, though, about the president's ability to change how things really work in Washington: 55 percent think it's possible; 44 percent are doubtful, no matter who's elected.

What a difference 8 years of lowered expectations makes. People are appreciating the magnitude of the problems, which seemingly stretch out in every direction. Times like this call for a larger-than-life figure, so we'll (with the "help" of the media) place an unrealistic expectation on whoever takes office Jan '09.

I don't know if there is a candidate that is capable of fixing this mess that our country is in right now!
I really feel sorry for the next President because of the mess that has to clean up! The next President will have to secure our borders and stop the open borders policy that the Chamber of Commerce are pushing through, using our tax dollars to build the superhighway.
Thanks engineer!

This is a subject that will drive a seemingly rational person
to froth at the mouth........but how are we going to pay off
the debt we have accrued from the war? This is the part that
makes people go nuts......but, don't we have to raise taxes?
I feel sick everytime borrowing more from China is mentioned!
It is going to be a long hard slog, but wouldn't it be better
to take care of the disaster this current administration has
caused by OURSELVES? How can it not weaken us to continue
borrowing from foreign nations and allowing more giveaways
to the multi-national corporations?

With 35 years of experience, I wonder why Hillary Rodham didn't run last time, seeing she had 31 years of experience then. That's much more than our current president had or has.
