You beat me to it.

"The Democratic victory in what was once a safe Republican seat gave the clearest sign yet that the anti-GOP wave that swept Republicans from control of Congress in 2006 may still be rolling.
'A victory in the seat held by Speaker Hastert will send a political shock wave that will be felt across the country,' said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. 'It's a stunning repudiation of President Bush, his allies and John McCain, who wants to carry on his legacy. A Democrat was outspent in a heavily Republican district held by the former speaker of the House for 20 years and carried easily by George Bush,' he said. 'There's no way putting perfume on this one.'

Bawhahahahahahahahaha! I totally love that picture. Good riddance to slimy Denny "Jabba the Hut" Has-turd. I hope the rest of the other loathsome corpulent Republican weasels who shielded child molesting sluut Mark Foley will also be forced to leave Congress in a spectacular ball of flames. LOL You can't be serious, Klarissa. ;-x

Pubic troff?? Is that the kind of thing one finds in an S&M club? Sounds kind of nasty. I mean I can understand for Larry Craig and David Vitter, but the rest of them? OK maybe I do see what you mean.

...this is a sign that it can get better!
The last time the Republicans so controlled so much of the government (as under Hastert's 109th "do nothing" Congress) we had the great Depression (so said Newt Gingrich).
We still have to recover from the damage of the Bush Administration supported by 6 years of a corrupt led, Republican Congress.

....not just scandals! He put the house on a 3 day work week since the Big business lobbyists were writing the laws of the land. He violated house rules in extending voting into the early mornings to get the votes he wanted. He didn't permit Dem amendements often. No effort to conduct oversight. And the untagged exorbitant Republican earmarks signed into law without a blink by Dumya!
Under Hastert: Sensenbrenner just shut the mikes off and wolked out on valid testimony against the renewal of the Patriot Act.
The Senate led by Repugs also pulled the same BS: Stevens telling big oil CEOs they didn't even have to give an oath to tell Congress the truth. Orin Hatch threatening jail time to anyone who dared to offer contrary evidence to Bush judge nominees.
The RNC should be declared a terrorist organization!

This is most encouraging and surely a result upon which to base a degree of optimism for the future. Thanks for the notice, ybdogsct.

Don't get too excited. Illinois doesn't really have a viable Republican party. They ran Alan Keyes against Obama, and he didn't even live in the state. Oberisse, who ran against Foster is a joke. He runs a dairy, for God's sake, and hired illegal aliens. No self respecting Republican would be seen in his company, much less vote for him. Now if the Democrats win my Congressional district in November then we have a real problem.

"Don't get too excited. Illinois doesn't really have a viable Republican party."
Excuses, excuses. It was a Republican held seat in a district GWBush carried in an election in which the Republican candidate far outspent the Democratic candidate--a candidate who is not even a politician. LOL

Mitt Romney also hired illegal aliens and yet the Republican establishment supported him.

"'Mitt usually criticizes people when he usually has the far worse record,' Rudy Giuliani said, adding that as Massachusetts governor, Romney had overseen six "sanctuary cities." 'There was even a sanctuary mansion. At his own home, illegal immigrants were being employed,' Giuliani said.'"

Actually, aniokly's right about the state of the Illinois Republican Party. And she's right about Jim Oberweis--there really isn't anyone who likes him. (Even the Chicago Tribune, which likes to think of itself as the standard-bearers of the Republican Party, didn't endorse him.)
At the same time, the 14th District is as Republican as they come here, so it's a big deal. And the symbolism of defeat in the district of the longtime Speaker will keep pundits buzzing about it for a while.

Wow. That really is good news. Not a good sign for republicans in Novembers election. That district hasn't voted democratic in a very long time.

...means a lot of former Republicans have seen that Dumya, supported by all the Congressional Repugs, has revealed the true corrupt nature of the Repug Party! Watergate, Iran Contra and Plamegate, all convictions at the presidential cabinet level in three different Repug Administrations, were not anomalies; but, the norm! Once again, we are reminded that Newt's Contract With America was a pack of lies too!
Worse Than Watergate, the book title by John Dean, former legal counsel to Nixon

Isn't it interesting how homophobic and racist the Democrats have become?
The King and Queen of the party are trying to destroy a black man,,,, and their serfs seem to have a problem with the possibility of someone being gay,,,, oh how unprogressive of the so called progressive party.

Donnie are you a proud car caring memeber of the Neo-racist/Neo-Homophobic Party formerly refered to as the Democratic Party?
Question? Does it make ya all tingly to say Un-American? You seem to really enjoy making that claim.... you'd not know a real American if she was letting you put your last doallar bill into her g-string with your teeth.

"Isn't it interesting how homophobic and racist the Democrats have become?"
--slate, please stop pretending that you're culturally aware and care about either blacks or gays. You don't so just stop. You people say nothing when wingnuts try every trick under the sun to suggest that Obama is a Muslim (i.e. terrorist, in neocons' tiny minds). But let someone say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" and the evangelicals all swoon in anger. Will joked about rumors circulating that Jabb...er, Hastert is gay. That doesn't make his statements homophobic. You don't even know what homophobia is so stop trying to pretend that you're progressive or principled. I know what you think of America's children. ;-(

What's a GP vote? Is that something new? And how is performing a constitutional honor of voting for someone you want to win in a Democratic Republic ever considered a waste?
Hey 51, did I ask you for your opinion on who I want to vote for? I'm not sure yet who I'm voting for and may surprize you. However if in the end I haven't decided and want an Un-American demented racist/homophobe to give me advise,,, I'll keep you in mind.
