NewsMax Admits It's Obama Smear Isn't Accurate »
Posted By Aidenag 6 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsThe story that's at the center of the storm today is this one from Ronald Kessler at the conservative-oriented NewsMax.com. "Obama attended hate America sermon," it's headlined. NewsMax has now posted a "clarification" that says its reporter can't give a specific date of when this was supposed to have happened.

But he WAS in Chicago that day too. Maybe not in the church, that's what his camp says...of course they implied he was in Miami all day, so maybe not.

All you have the hearsay from a partisan "reporter." That is NOT evidence, particularly when it has been contradicted by video evidence.
In fact, those who helped spread the story are now publishing retractions.
Here's William Kristol expressing his regret for this "error."
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/17/opinion/17kri...
"In this column, I cite a report that Sen. Obama had attended services at Trinity Church on July 22, 2007. The Obama camapaign has provided information showing that Sen. Obama did not attend Trinity that day. I regret the error."

Here's another retraction from your own precious Fox News.
http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=833
"Fox News featured Kessler's story. Originally titled "Report Places Obama at Controversial July '07 Wright Sermon," it was altered to "Schedule Puts Obama in Miami During July '07 Wright Sermon," after Kessler's errors were revealed. Still, Fox soft-peddles the correction by saying that: 'Doubts were cast on the story Monday as records showed the Democratic presidential contender was in Miami that day.'"
http://www.antiwar.com/justin/?articleid=12532
"The smear machine is after Barack Obama. Not that this is surprising, or even anything new: they've been conducting a low-level hate campaign ever since he attained front-runner status, using the same guilt-by-association technique that they used against Ron Paul. The basic strategy is to make Obama answer for each and every one of Wright's pronouncements, no matter how wacky or lame-brained."

Here is a pdf of a church bulletin for January 2007. You can get a flavor for the church.

I guess Barack never saw anything like these either? That's why he tried to distance himself from his pastor at the beginning of his presidential campaign...right?

It may be harsh to the few who still believe the Iraq war was
A - Necessary
B - Noble
But I don't see anything there to give me pause. I strongly disagree with things I've heard Wright say, but none of them are in this bulletin. It proves nothing.

ROFLMAO, this is almost as good as the faithfuls defense of Limpaw after he called soldiers who disagreed with Iraq traitors.
Gotta luv the righties trying to claim since his pastor said this Obama MUST be just like that. But then again we have a party who's front runner was declared to be slightly out of sync due to his captivity during Vietnam and you sure wouldnt want someone like that in charge.

Hmm. He's arguing for the poor, to ensure they have services to take care of them. He's arguing against violence. Oddly Christlike!
He's arguing that it's strange the media's focusing on a black pastor of a presidential candidate when the current president is sending men to their deaths and ordering the deaths of thousands of Iraqis. Seems strange to me.
Seems stranger that we're talking about someone's pastor when China's killing Tibetans left and right, oppressing their general public and it's not in the news much, not to mention they're the US's favored nation trading partner. So much for a left-leaning media.

Another one worth reading:
http://www.tucc.org/upload/tuccbulletin_mar18.pdf
It shows that Barack was the cover story for the Church's magazine "The Trumpet". It also has an open letter to the NYT with Wright's blistering critique of the NYT writers story about him (Wright) being dis-invited to do the invocation when Barack announced his candidacy

I'm not even slightly surprised that the mainstream media continues to fail at fact checking.
One interesting and likely overlooked fact contained in your article--good one, by the way--is that the original NewsMax article by Jim Davis was posted on August 7, 2007--well before anyone in Hillary Clinton's camp might have seen Obama as a major threat. This should end the rumor that many Republicans like to repeat that this particular smear came from the Clinton campaign--and should cast doubt about others.

It looks like Obama isn't going to tolerate the sleaze tactics of the 'wrong' wing. How refreshing.

FTA: "Kessler said NewsMax will be posting a new story about this shortly." So, let's see if NewsMax can defend its story or not. Should be interesting.

They said it was a specific date that the sermon took place. Now we are finding out that, not only was Obama in Miami on that date, but that newsmax is now saying the Journo can't even remember what date it actually occured? Come on, there is nothing to defend.. They screwed up big time because they were too busy trying to smear a candidate with false reporting...

Well, here is the story originally written in August 9, 2007:

Just because you say there's nothing to defend won't end the story. Let's see what NewsMax has to say. If they can't defend it, big egg on their face. If they can...

Just because he had the date wrong doesn't prove it never happened. It just didn't happen on July 22.

How quick you are to make excuses for this kind of mistake when it promotes your agenda, aniokly. If a story citing an incorrect date about something related to McCain or Bush came from, say, MoveOn, would you make the same kind of statement?

You are correct that it doesn't prove that it didn't happen.
It certainly doesn't establish that it did happen.

Actually, the story was about a particular event that occurred on a particular date.
So, uh, yeah. It most certainly DOES prove that it never happened.

Does anyone remember Dan Rather's downfall? Wasn't his report based on an obviously forged document? And didn't all the Bush-bashers say it was irrelevant that the document was forged, the story was still true? It seems to me a forged document is much more serious than someone getting a date wrong.
Besides, totally discarding the article, it's hard to believe Obama attended that church for 20 years, married by this pastor who also baptized his children, and still had no clue what his racist attitudes were.

Didn't President Bush use forged documents as part of his rational for invading and occupying Iraq? We should have fired his butt along time ago too.

The point is the dude wasn't there and if Zombie McCain can't be held responsible for what comes out of that idiot Hagee's jack whole then why should Barack be held responsible for what Pastor Wright says? Trust me, dude is saying nothing that's not said in a lot of other Afrocentric themed churches and homes
