I saw this story floating around and decided to submit it to the Propeller family.

Mike Gravel is another example of how the media has controlled this whole campaign process.

we're stuck with the pathetic, clinton, Obama and McCain Musketeers. the only candidates with any brain capacity would be: Kucinich, Paul and Gravel.

I am a registered rebublican. will change parties soon. But, I am impressed by this latest move on Gravel's part!

Go Mike! (please join with Ron Paul and I will be one happy American.

Please eco, the media (this place included) provides plenty of info on Gravel. He's a bit whacky for Americans, Dems or Reps.

Barring some catastrophe that wipes out everyone who has run in these campaigns (and those who could) He has 0 chance of doing anything except sucking votes and money from the dems.

Please do go on with your cheerleading though ;)

avatar
Reply

Nah, he'll suck votes from Ralph Nader who will suck them from the Democrats who are sucking disaffected Republicans who used to suck but gave it up for Lent. :) Oh, and Ron Paul?, he always sucked.

I feel sorry for anyone who is so deluded as to think that adding all these wacky candidates together, their votes would have any meaning except create chaos in a closely contested election. Once again, whoever is elected, it will not be by a majority.

I knew there was a reason I hadn't taken that sticker off my car, yet. Give 'em hell, Mike!

I've liked Mike Gravel as well. (Even though I was a Ron Paul supporter)

I am not in support of his health plan though. I think we need to have affordable health insurance-not socialism. but, I know Mike's a good man!

avatar
Reply

Mike's point is that there really is no such thing as affordable health insurance, and it is as unfair to place the burden of paying the outrageous rates on businesses as it is on the individual.

avatar
Reply

I feel very strongly that insurance companies are corrupt and the health industry/pharmaceutical lobbyists run the show. I can't even imagine how much worse it could get with socialized medicine.

it's time to take back control of our own health.

avatar
Reply

We need to force the industry to stop artificially charging individuals more for insurance, and the uninsured more for care than the insured. To do that we have to 1)make it so there are NO uninsured citizens, and 2)make it so there are no citizens that are not bundled into a large group policy.

To do that requires what the industry apologists call 'socialized medicine', but it really isn't. It is an enforced rate cap for all citizens regardless of employment status or demographic. I don't know why we allow the absurd rate-gouging of the most in need that is going on now, for both insurance and care.

Grrr-

don't get me started on the illegal immigration issue. because this is the reason our hospitals are closing and burdens are placed.

I agree with you. but, until we stop these people from bankrupting our system, we will not have affordable health care.

avatar
Reply

Yep, when your house is being flooded you first stop the leak and then you clean up the water.

avatar
Reply

I agree. You want to stop immigration, stop it. And throw the book at anyone that employs them. No jobs, no problem. Won't even need that stupid fence.

avatar
Reply

a virtual fence is cool with me. it can be very high tech. and reserve property rights, etc.

avatar

We've already thrown enough money at that for one boondoggle. They're way over budget with nothing working, last I saw. Enough millions to have done it four times over through smaller contractors and open bids. As usual. Same for all their other tech projects. Across the board in every department, millions, billions, thrown down contractor holes on projects that have never worked and are already outdated.

"I can't even imagine how much worse it could get with socialized medicine."

Ask the Canadians who come over hear for health care eh.

avatar
Reply

Please pardon me, that should read "Ask the Canadians who come over here for health care eh."

Damn Jack Daniels and hydro.

avatar

You mean the mythical Canadians

I spend a lot of time fighting with insurance companies. Maybe not corrupt but they're definitely a drain on the system. I think there's probably a better way to distribute medical services.

avatar

I can totally relate to your point. (reward people for taking care of themselves by getting proper nutrition, rest, sunshine, love and healthy drinking water into their daily lives.)

1). what is being proposed is single payor healthcare, not socialized medicine. Socialized medicine would be along the lines of the British system, with healthcare providers being government employees.

2). Do some close looking at countries with single payor, universal healthcare and ask yourself how much BETTER it could get if we went and did likewise.

give links...(please)

#1 is provable by definition, it requires no links

#2 can be googled, read up on Canada and Australia for starters.

I also get angry over overpriced medical care, but...but isn't this about Mike Gravel and his march from the land of ice to Washington the land of vice?

avatar
Reply

There you go. All the disenchanted Democrats don't have to vote for Ralph Nader after all. I don't know which one is kookier, Nader, or Gravel, but I bet they both do pretty good this time as "others"

avatar
Reply

come on--seriously? Gravel is by far more qualified than any of the frontrunner musketeers

avatar
Reply

Bush, the chief kook, has lowered the bar for any criteria one can think of, so why would either of these two be called "kooky?"

avatar

I think I will have a party January 20, 2009. This is the best Presidential election I have seen since we had a big party in January, 2000. You have McKinny in the Reform party, Hillary or Obama, McCain, and now Nader, and Gravel. God sure has a great sense of Humor.

avatar

could it get any worse?

actually, I like Gravel and Paul. they are older and much wiser than the corporate interested/amnesty friendly musketeers!

avatar
Reply

Well, Mike has 5 votes so far, all he needs is 51,489,231 more.

avatar
Reply

We need another voice!!

Those are very strong words coming from Mike Gravel and I have great respect for what he is doing but does a libertarian stand a chance of being President?

avatar
Reply

if the media stayed out of it and reported more openly--very possibly a libertarian would stand a chance.

avatar
Reply

Heck, if the media were honest, we wouldn't have either of the parties we have now at all. They'd ALL be in jail.

avatar
Reply

Well global, probably not. But right now I am looking for a sane person to vote for since I've written the 3 left off.I don't know about Gravel so I can't comment but will certainly investigate because this person desperately needs somebody my conscious can vote for because I have to vote.

But if he fits my criteria maybe he'll get enough votes to make people think.

rdy2rck-

I just think people are not using their brains. the big news these days are the governors in NY and NJ, britney spears, etc. (pathetic) and this is why we are stuck with the 3 musketeers.

Mike Gravel seems refreshing at this point...

I certainly will look into it.I go by what I call my 50% rule.If I can get to that point where I believe in at least 50% of what there saying there still on the map but I can't even get to 20% if that.

Friends laughed and asked since you got to vote what are you going to do.I said I may right in Colin Powell and they thought I was joking.

avatar
Reply

"...Colin Powell and they thought I was joking."

I can certainly relate. but, my choice was ron paul. I like Gravel, though. I need to do more research on his stance re: illegal immigration, which I feel has brought our nation to its knees (along with the farce of a war in Iraq)

avatar
Reply

me too.I'm not sure about Colin Powells stances because he wasn't in that position but I sure respected him, he knew world politics, was very intelligent, he stayed out the the bull, AND he was smart enough not to run.LOL

avatar
Reply

right on...

avatar
Reply

Yeh, we haven't heard about what perversion he may have yet. Come to think of it, we never will, the news outlets will not consider anything he does as newsworthy.

avatar
Reply

Who Knows. But him not running gets him 10 points already in my book.LOL

avatar
Reply

Global-

It's not just the probability of getting elected, it's also the opportunity to change the balance, inject some new ideas, get the other candidates to address some issues he raises and hopefully develop a third party.

avatar

I see what you are saying walden. But do you think we will be better off if we elect Barak over McCain? I think people will strategically vote for a democrat to avoid another republican in the white house even if their heart isn't really in it.

But at the same time, that kind of thinking puts us into a continuous loop we can get out of, its sort of a rock and hard place situation.

avatar
Reply

Sorry, I meant to say "can't get out of"

avatar
Reply

I agree with everything you say. Yeah, I'd much rather have Obama in the whitehouse then McCain. But honestly I'm pretty disappointed in all the Democrats for how they behaved the past eight years, and the last year they had control of Congress. It'll be real hard for me to vote for any Democrat.

avatar
Reply

My 2 fave democrats are: Kucinich and Gravel

avatar

If I had to vote for a Dem my choices were Kucinich and Edwards.

Edwards is a member of the CFR, though!
