Poll: Obama would be tougher candidate against McCain
Politics – A new poll finds a majority of Republicans and Democrats feel Sen. Barack Obama would be a tougher candidate against the presumptive Republican nominee John McCain in a potential fall match-up.
You run an unAmerican Black Nationalist against a War Hero, and wonder how he was defeated soundly. McCain is winning even in Blue states, and the Democrats still don't know who their candidate really will be, and what to do about Florida, and Michigan. There is a big election in 7 months, do they want to take part?
aniokly, JoseMadre, and pc25--you're all missing the point that the American electorate is not stupid enough to fall for distractions from the real issues facing our country again.
Obama would beat McCain because McCain admits to not even understanding the economy, because he has said he'd like to continue or even extend our war in Iraq (and because he's shown he doesn't even understand what the conflict over there is about), and because he has no other ideas except for the same ones as Bush--ideas weakly supported by something between a quarter and a third of the voters.
On the other hand, Obama has clear and well thought out policies (if anyone would pay attention to them):
Actually, you are missing the real point. Besides the fact that the President is CEO, not CFO, you fail to see that Obama's own words call into question the basis of his entire campaign. He has given contradictory answers to questions about his relationship with Wright and TUCC, he actively sought the advice of radicals of the left (his own words from his book Dreams of My Father), and despite his claims of being able to work with Republicans, both Hillary and especially McCain have proven in the Senate that they actually do so. Obama's "I don't want to talk about that anymore" won't cut it in this contest. People are still playing "fill-in-the-blank" fantasies with him, but as the blanks get filled with reality he fades. McCain will win in a relative walk, taking Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Florida.
The president is not the CEO nor is he the CFO. The government is not a corporation. (And thank God for that.)
That whole business analogy has too many holes in it.
The government is not in business to make itself money, nor should it be.
The government serves several purposes. They're listed in the preamble to the Constitution. You should read it some time.
Whatever our opinions of Obama's words, it doesn't really matter what you or I think--it matters what the voters think, and the poll in the article shows they don't agree with you.
Voters are FINALLY concerned more with things that directly affect their lives than with some ideology. And McCain doesn't speak to those issues.
These guys reming me of the old lady with her bee hive do, she can't leave what worked for her behind even 50 years later. They fooled the country into electing an idiot twice and now that the country is on to them, and has rejected in every election since with a few scattered wins here and there.
The hate and fear mongering is not working but they cant give up the ghost. I have known that Obama would beat McCain from the very first time the right started voting for Hill. It escapes me that the DNC hasn't. Obama is as clean as a whistle if the best the right can do is talk about the preacher at his Church, I have never seen one man being punished this much for the words of another...these same people that are all for hanging him high from a tree voted for the likes of David duck and Strong T. These were not Obama's words while David was the grand master of the KKK, and strong was in public crying for dividing the country. Yeah i take them to heart my confused friends on the right.
Well at least he is HONEST and that my friends has allot to do with our current economic problems. See we have dishonest banks, dishonest politicians, and dishonest people. Dishonesty leads to Bankrupt nations. We have plenty of KNOW it All economists tis part of the problem. Maybe we need a HONEST politician for a Change! One who isn't easily fooled and that will not follow the wrong path. I am sure McCain doesn't know allot about the Medical profession either! SO WHAT. Wasn't it all those 401K economic know it alls that got so many of you to lose ALLOT of MONEY?
Obama has already been caught in so many Lies its down right frightful MORE BUSINESS as USUAL!!! IF HE IS THE CANDIDATE of CHANGE then I would rather Have NONE!
Mivan4 - Would you please tell me these lies that Obama has been cought in? It seem to me that only the right of this nation has been told about these lied...please don't tell me you got this info from FOXLies or crazy rush!
Ok, I am aware of a List of nine, but off hand I will only list one A BIG ONE he did on National TV! He first said he was NEVER present at any sermon of hate from Rev Wright. Latter after a news caster said that was funny since they Observed him there on one occasion, Obama then did a about face on the Issue. All you had to do was LISTEN to the Obama apologies on the news and you would have heard the 2 different stories from the same MOUTH. I know because I heard both different accounts myself from Obama. There are plenty, more want to find Them, simple google Obama Lies
funny that you missed all the Democratic strategists on all the cable news stations (CNN, MSNBC, and Fox) this weekend saying that the Rev Wright fiasco is definitely going to hurt Obama come the general election.......it has not hurt him much against Hillary because most Dems cant stand the Clintoons anymore but when it starts getting down to the nitty gritty of the November elections it will effect him.........
But hasn't Clinton been winning in the traditionally blue states while Obama has been winning in traditionally red states for the most part? So it seems that states that normally vote Democratic are voting for Clinton which belies your statement.
But the fact that obama has overwhelmingly won in red states prove that he'll do better against mcCain. He won many of those states with double diget leads. Hillary can't say the same about the blue states.
Plus, the blue states don't hate hillary in the way many of the smaller, more rural states do. There is venom out there for her.
Obama will do fine in the blue states. It is true that Hillary is more popular with the old guard, or establishment Democrats but one thing I am sure of. Come November, Democrats of all stripes will rally round our candidate with no hesitation, reservation or shadow of a remedial doubt. We're on fire while the Republicans can barely garner enthusiasm for the traitor, rino, liberal, McCain. They're bringing out all the usual laughable crap that has worked in some elections but they can't disguise one thing. Republicans have screwed up the economy, foreign policy, and the effectiveness of government. They have run up the cost of government while decreasing its competence, honesty, and efficiency by giving away American tax dollars as political patronage to their buddies. Loyalty trumps all with Republicans. There are only two kinds of people now who support them. The rich and the duped. There aren't enough of the former and their running out of the latter.
Exactly the point hat Hillary is trying to make. So what if Obama is a few percentage closer in solid red states if he loses Pennsylvania and Michigan?
Michigan is a moot point. And Pennsylvania hasn't voted yet. And the truth is, Hillary cannot win the Democratic nomination. The math will not allow it.
"Traditional blue states" do you mean like Texas? Would you people do some research before repeating what you see on TV they on TV have no clue what they are talking about. Clinton hasn't won enough states to make such a declaration valid! If she wins Penn she would have won 3 Red states in succession since Rush urged GOPers to vote for her! The two states that Obama won after Ohio and TX were both blue states. It is said that she won in FL and Mich, Both red states need i say more?
Dude, your Ignorance shows! You don't even know which are red and blue states. Let me help you TEXAS is a Red State and Hillary beat Obama by 1.5% there anyway! Ohio is a swing state and so is Florida! Michigan is BLUE, Pennsylvania is a BLUE state. In the last election MICHIGAN, Pennsylvania, and Florida all went BLUE! Ohio and Texas went Red and Ohio went red barely
So; Aren't the Democrats the ones that say every vote should count? And when they were done counting votes Hillary won by plenty! and Hillary won the caucus also, but Obama won more Delegates! (had to do with districting and super delegates )
This link indicates that Clinton was the reported winner of Texas originally and the Clinton camp may actually sue. It is interesting that RESULTS are still not IN! Something smells foul here. Check out the last paragraph!
florida went red in the last two elections! Penn went RED in the last election their then GOP gov stomped for Bush and give him the state, Ohio was the red state that push bush back in the white house, do you remember the big broo haha over the vote in that state and how some of the votes in the black section were not counted? So maybe your Ignorance shows! YOU KNOW WHAT DUDE TAKE A LOOK AT THIS LINK AND HUSH:http:...">http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://ihat...
Penn didn't go red. You however are correct about Florida, but they are a swing state anyway. And my link Works. Also it seems I may have had faulty information reported the day after Texas as some reported Hillary got the Texas caucus also now it appears that as late as March 29th the final results are not in!
"saying that the Rev Wright fiasco is definitely going to hurt Obama come the general election"
Hahaha all Obama has to do there is say that Rev. Martin Luther King expressed the same sentiment as Rev. Wright. did. We all know what happened to King. Let see how many Republicons want to take a swat at deniging Rev. King.
The only way McBus....er..I mean McCain wins is in a seriously rigged election.
MLK did not hate this country, and never damned America. He never said America imported drugs to make sure we had black addicts, and he never said Whitey created Aids to kill black people. MLK was a great American. Rev Wright is a Black Nationalist. His words will be repeated daily for the next 7 months until every Americans knows all about him, and his connection to the good Senator.
You sure make a lot of assumptions and judgements of someone based on the words of another. Typical miserable con. Obama condemns these specific remarks and it means nothing to you. How surprising!
I thought Obama didn't hear Wright's nasty words. Of course he did, and when he heard them that was the time for him denounce them, not when he was caught listening to the Black Nationalist Pastor, nodding his head in agreement. He takes his minor children to listen to those words. His lovely wife believes those words, and hates America,
And to make matters worse you now sit in judgement of Michelle Obama. Pathetic. Can't you see the obvious error of your ways? And you will vote for McCain who accepts the support of those like Rev. Hagee (who would be pleased to see the end times in his own lifetime). We need real change. How many times do we have to tell you we don't want or need a perfect candidate? Everyone has warts and your cranky old candidate is just like the rest of them. Obama is different, he doesn't hate America. He tried to explain to you that Rev. Wright's political views are views of the past, views Obama doesn't hold, that he doesn't want to see passed forward to the next generation but you refuse to listen. You continue with the hatred he so clearly denounced.
aniokly - Does Obama Hate this country? I have yet to find one of you detractors that can prove to me that Obama has said or done anything to show hate to this nation. I can tell you that your boy Bush does more so than anyone we have seen in a long time. Just look at the state of the Union, you can't tell me that a man who loves this country would defy reason his own appointed commissions and anyone who say what you are doing is wrong and continue to head down a path of sure destruction loves this country! These patriotic bastards are moving to the Emirates so they don't have to pay taxes on the money they pilfered. Yeah they love this country.
that's speculation. the RCP avg. is how people feel right now. so, today, its obama over McCain. those dem strategists obviously are anticipating a swiftboat attack from the right. but since we all know that's coming, and we already know what to call it when it happens (swiftboat alert!) how effective will it really be?
and not to worry. all the dems have to do is keep rolling that tape of McCain saying he doesn't mind if we stay in Iraq for 100 years, then play the other tape of McCain not knowing the difference between sunni and shiite, iran and al qaeda. and since both clips are in handy sound bite form, that should do it.
Actually it's McCain slightly ahead, with the Rasmussen daily tracking showing him opening a decent 6% lead. What people do not realize is that a Democrat will not normally win if the vote is even because they tend to run up massive margins in NY and CA. Win those 2 by 2M to 3M total, lose OH, FL, MI, and PA by a combined 1M and have a nice plurality but nearly the same number of Electors.
Rassmussen has McCain already even with Obama in four Blue states, Obama has not won one battleground state. Not one. Sooner or later the Democrats have to face reality.
Rassmussen has whatever the RNC tells him to have. He prides himself in crafting questions and choosing sample bases that will yield the truthiness that the RepugniCons want.
yep. but even rasmussen couldn't make obama's numbers slip after the wright thing.
Obama is the guy they're scared of. period. they know he can win. they know America wants change. they know McCain will look old and tired and uninspired standing across from Obama in a debate.
Even if he gets elected, which historically the odds are in his favor as much from the rarity of a party holding the president's office for more than two consecutive terms, we'll survive him.
He will be MY president, if a majority of the PEOPLE elects him, even if I decide to vote for his opponent. The office of President and the will of the PEOPLE that decide who they want at the time is way more important than who occupies it for a 4 or 8 year stretch in the long history of the Nation.
obama is a huge threat to the psychological status quo. with him as president america will be able to see itself differently immediately, which is the last thing the power brokers want. all the old stereotypes and beliefs of who can lead, who is second class, etc. will be destroyed forever.
if you don't think there are plenty of people who are threatend by that, well then, you simply haven't been paying attention, or you're in serious denial.
I'm not in denial of anything; there will always be people of the 'buggy whip' mentality around.
Obama being black neither adds nor subtracts from his gravitas to me. In fact, anyone who votes for or against him, solely because of they think having a black president either helps or harms this country does this country a disservice.
Sure there are racists that can't stand the thought of an UPPITY black guy getting into office and lifting up other blacks along with him. Fortunately, I think that mindset is fading into history faster than most know or will admit. To say the least, that sort of attitude is abhorrent.
On the other side of that same coin; those that will vote for Obama BECAUSE he is black and they feel it's 'time' America grows up Yada Yada, and or because it just makes them feel good; they too are doing a disservice to this nation.
If you truly think his 'policies' not his skin color are what you want then vote for him with pride, but please listen to him and really know what you are getting. Don't get sold a bill of goods like the Republicans did with Bush, we can use a few decent years ahead of us. I also ask you to actually listen to what McCain has to offer and consider your vote there if you are so inclined.
vote for obama for the content of his character, not the color of his skin. check.
listen to McCain. check. in fact I have been and I'm not too thrilled. would he be as bad as Bush? that would be difficult. but it does sound very similar to the same bill of goods that bush sold us: conflation of middle east powers (in McCain's case, sunni and shiite, iran and al qaeda), 20th century answers to 21st century problems, 100 years in Iraq, etc. add to that the massive flip flopping and what have you got? not much I'm afraid.
maybe you're not in denial, and that's great. but the point I made at the beginning of this mini-thread is still true: the powers that be are scared of Obama.
and the fact remains, more people will vote against Obama for the color of his skin than will vote for Obama for the color of his skin.
so like it or not, skin color does matter. and that needs to change.
I keep hearing the 'fear/scared' thing, and it makes no sense. Why can't you get a few things into your own mindset; such as.
It's always thought of as the same ole same ole when any party tries to win after their sitting president leaves after two terms.
McCain out of all the Republicans should cause more "fear as you put it' into the liberals. He may be for the war, but beside that, he has many policy ideas that many moderates and liberals would find ok. You throw in the disgust all the infighting between the two camps are going through and the many that will vote for Nader rather than any of the three served up right now.
With that said, I will repeat, I'm/we aren't skert, life goes on, and we will plug along, you never know what the future will hold.
You say the FACT that more will vote against him for the color of his skin over for. Will you show me these facts? Do you have a link to this scientific study, or are you going by your gut< want' hope, or do you just know that to be a fact because that's what you think? Let's see the data please.
if you don't understand how and why the powers that be are scared of Obama, and if you need some kind of link or study to prove to you that more people will vote against Obama due to his skin color than will vote for Obama due to his skin color, well then...
I was wrong.
you are in denial. big time.
so that's my bad for giving you the benefit of the doubt. cause now you've erased all doubt.
the one thing I'll agree on is that McCain's social policies aren't that bad. he does seem to understand that issues like immigration and health care come with many nuances and that there are many gray areas.
but when it comes to things like the tax cuts, war, deficit spending, the economy, he's nothing more than an extension of bush.
Oh Shadup ya twerp and go think of some other way to convince us everyone is a racist, just because you are the only one smart enough to understand and just know it to be so. Yeah buddy there are far more white folks that would vote against his skin than black folks that will vote for one of their own to 'finally' make it? Yeah riiiiggghhhtt. You really aren't as smart as you try and prove with your condescending posts about the worth of 'giving credit'.
Another thing; the 'give ya credit' thing is even more lame. You say that as if anyone (especially me) holds your 'acceptance' as some of value? Nowayman!
Now go find someone else to convince it's all about Obama's skin color with the 'powers' that be.
hey, don't get mad at me cause you're a dimwit who is out of touch with reality. ain't my fault.
still stuck on me not giving you credit means you're still stuck on stupid. and the more you talk about it, the more credit you give me. so thanks for that.
and yes, when it comes to dealing with the likes of you, the only way to communicate is to condescend. how else should I address the complete shortcut to thinking that is slate?
You run an unAmerican Black Nationalist against a War Hero, and wonder how he was defeated soundly. McCain is winning even in Blue states, and the Democrats still don't know who their candidate really will be, and what to do about Florida, and Michigan. I guess those who negged you haven't bothered reading Dreams of My Father in which Obama talks about seeking out radical leftists such as Bill Ayres

((Obama is the guy they're scared of. Period))
Someone's Sacred of Obama? LOL why?
Nowayman!
Now go find someone else to convince it's all about Obama's skin color with the 'powers' that be.
hey, don't get mad at me cause you're a dimwit who is out of touch with reality. ain't my fault.
still stuck on me not giving you credit means you're still stuck on stupid. and the more you talk about it, the more credit you give me. so thanks for that.
and yes, when it comes to dealing with the likes of you, the only way to communicate is to condescend. how else should I address the complete shortcut to thinking that is slate?
boo
