Politics – The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows John McCain with a very slight advantage over Barack Obama, 47% to 44%.
"The current status of the Obama-Clinton competition is clearly having an impact on the general election numbers. In a McCain-Obama match-up, thirty percent (30%) of Democrats say they will not vote for Obama. This includes 10% who say they will vote for a third party candidate or are currently undecided. The number of Republicans who will not currently vote for McCain against Obama is 16%."
I live in a predominantly rural, conservative and Republican area.
Nobody likes McCain. His support is extremely soft and in fact the Republican delegates just voted to change the party platform to one of limiting troop engagement abroad to 180 days unless the president officially declares war. (the Ron Paul effect)
Even the most diehard Rush listener I know has said she is planning to vote for Obama over McCain, or won`t vote at all if its Hillary vs McCain.
Republicans are as turned off by McCain as the Dems and moderates. The only chance the cons have is to pile on the negativity so thick, people start to think anybody but [dem nominee]. Since the mass media is owned by the right-wing, this actually has a chance of working AGAIN.
But based on how people feel, McCain doesn`t stand a chance.
Rassmussen has called the last 4 Federal elections to within a point. They are extremely accurate. You know when Obama loses in November it will not be because he is inexperienced, has no clue about National Security. In fact he will disarm us so we won't offend his world. It will not be because he is too Liberal and will pick the gold from your teeth to fill his marxist coffers. It will not be because he agrees with Rev Wright about white America, It will be because of white bigroty. That is fine with me.
His loss will be blamed on not getting white support because we are all racist bigots. Is that what you mean. Or is it about his disdain for white America? We are all like his typical white Granny. When he became Senator he did not go to Kansas to visit his Mothers family, he spent 6 weeks in Kenya with his fathers, and Grandfathers relatives. He uses his white support including reseating white people near the camera shots at rallys so it appears he has additional support from the white community. In the beginning of his campaign he appealed to all Americans, but when the chips were down, and he had to choose, he chose Rev Wright, and his black community. That is his right.
lol! you guys still trying to keep the Rev Hagee vs Rev Wright thing going?!
Man, I have to admit you are persistent, and thank you for that.
Longer you keep it up, worse you and McCain look.
Obama denounced and ran away from Wright, McCain sought out and chased after the prejudiced and hateful Hagee.
Who looks better? Who has the moral high ground?
[yawn]
It will be interesting to see how this rooky competes with McCain, Barr, McKinny, and Nader in the General election.
Ani, I should have negged you for even mentioning the foul ones name. (mckinney, aka Mchideous) Even seeing her name makes me want to earl.
However, as usual you are correct so I can't help but pos ya!
She won't get many votes, and they will come from Obama's voters anyway. She won't even get matching funds, but it will keep her off the streets, and out of the bars!! I am not sure if she made the cut. And Bob Barr hasn't made it official.
did someone say matching funds?
That reminds me, is McCain still breaking federal election campaign finance law? You know, the same law he helped get passed.
If he`s already breakin the law during the campaign, imagine what he`ll do when he gets to be prez. Especially since Bush ******ed on the constitution and wiped with the bill of rights.
We need a return to constitutional democratic institutions with checks & balances. No McCain wanted.
Yes he will, because we need adult leadership. I wondered how Obama would do without a script. I had seen him on local TV years ago. Sunday, talking with some rich backers he wrote off the rural vote by accusing them of being bitter because they didn't have what others had, and they looked to gun ownershipt, and religion for solace. Huh?
McCain has a two second memory span, you can tell because that is as long as he can keep his eyes and yellow teeth away from the teleprompter.
Obama, unlike McCain, is a sprite intellect who can speak his mind without needing someone to tell him or remind him what he thinks.
Hillary also makes McCain look like he`s having a permanent `senior moment`, to borrow an apologistic phrase from our good sources of comedy at Fox.
A generic ballot places the typical Democrat 10-12 points above the typical Republican during this election cycle. Yet all the polls show McCain essentially tied with his Democratic rivals. It's a long way until November, but still, that's not good news.
Both Hillary and Obama are flawed candidates. And the longer they duke it out, the longer the flaws are on display. No wonder the Democrat big shots want the contest to end.
"A generic ballot places the typical Democrat 10-12 points above the typical Republican during this election cycle."
The problem is that neither Hillary nor Obama is a "typical" Democrat. Hillary is to the left of most Democrats. Obama is to the left of even self-proclaimed Socialist Bernie Sanders, and if any more anti-Semites or quasi-Marxists freinds come out of the woodwork, Hillary might just get the nod after all.
Also, John McCain is not a "typical" Republican. He has disagreed with Bush enough so that, in the public's mind, there is a distance between them.
You are exactly right Stephen. The Dems claim it's because they have 2 "strong" candidates. Nope. It's because they have 2 evenly matched candidates. They are both very weak candidates, in terms of electability.
The puupeteers pulling Obama's strings must have gone for coffe yesterday, momentarily, when he had to think for himself & insulted small town working Americans. Soon folks will see the king is "nekked". :o) (those who haven't already)
The Democrats losing this coming election should have been as likely as Tiger sinking a three inch put. But they are overplaying their hand. Fun to watch.
Hillary is overplaying her hand.
She`s trying to hold the party and the election hostage in order to get the nomination.
She is just as entitled to the presidency in her mind as McCain is in his.
McCain sold his morals and soul to the same elite powers that got Dubya selected in 2000 and 2004. They are the crony welfare elite who believe us little people are here to do their bidding and to enrich their children at the expense of our own.
McCain and Clinton, one and the same.
Obama friendly with William Ayers. This is so fun to watch. Now I think I understand the thrill folks get at a demolition derby.
Ayers bombed government buildings including the United States Capitol (two bombs on March 1, 1970), The Pentagon (May 19, 1972), and the Harry S Truman Building which houses the United States Department of State (on January 29, 1975) along with several banks, police department headquarters and precincts, state and federal courthouses, and state prison administrative offices. In 1981, he turned himself in when most charges were dropped because of prosecutorial misconduct during the long search for him.
Ayers was quoted in an interview on September 11, 2001, (appropriate timing) as saying, "I don't regret setting bombs; I feel we didn't do enough."
Since 1999 Ayers has served on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, a philanthropic foundation. Other notable board members have included Demoratic Presidential Primary Candidate Sen.Barack Obama (D)-IL, who served from 1999 to 2002.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows John McCain with a very slight advantage over Barack Obama, 47% to 44%. In a match-up with Hillary Clinton, McCain attracts 48% of the vote while Clinton earns 42%."
AG, usually I agree with you, but I must take exception at the headline of this thread. "McCain Erases Obama Lead" is a falsehood. Everyone can plainly see that Obama was responsible for the lead being erased. It was Obama who decided to talk out of two sides of his mouth. It was Obama who made por choices for spiritual guidance. It was Obama who ulitmately is responsible for allowing the better choice to run neck and neck in the polls.
It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading in another way. Rasmussen daily tracking has shown McCain with a advantage over Obama and Clinton for quite a few days now if not weeks with the exception of 4/9 when Obama was up by a single percenatge point. It was the AP poll released earlier this week in which Obama gave up his rather sizable lead to McCain.

Nope, that poll was released at 9:30 a.m. this morning. The article says so. Also, the title is significant because Obama was ahead of McCain by almost ten points:
WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican Sen. John McCain has erased Sen. Barack Obama's 10-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup, leaving him essentially tied with both Democratic candidates in an Associated Press-Ipsos national poll released Thursday.
The survey showed the extended Democratic primary campaign creating divisions among supporters of Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and suggests a tight race for the presidency in November no matter which Democrat becomes the nominee.
McCain is benefiting from a bounce since he clinched the GOP nomination a month ago. The four-term Arizona senator has moved up in matchups with each of the Democratic candidates, particularly Obama.
