FTA- Reich said he had delayed a formal endorsement because of "the pull of old friendships" but he believed Obama offered the best chance of creating a new kind of politics and transcending old divisions.

Obama recently won another high-profile endorsement by a former Clinton cabinet official, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who was energy secretary and U.N. ambassador under Clinton.

Obama, an Illinois senator, also picked up the endorsements on Friday of former senators Sam Nunn, the former chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and David Boren, former chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

That is the First Reich. Two more to go.

Since when, if ever, did Reich grow a conscience?

I think we were all pulled in by the Clinton's, but now that we like Reich are looking at them from afar we get to see them for who they are.

And yet, the latest Gallup Poll shows Clinton leading Obama nationally among Democrats ...

Kind of illustrates why I say public opinion polls are useless. They change all too frequently.

um, Gallup is the only poll that has Hillary ahead of Obama. and its only by 1 point, so its a statistical tie.

rasmussen, AP/Ipsos, WashPost/ABC, Newsweek, Reuters/Zogby all have Obama ahead.

newsweek has obama ahead by 19 points.

reuters/zogby has obama ahead by 13 points.

wash post/ABC has obama ahead by 10 points.

and the real politics avg. has obama up nearly 8 points.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/pr...

so, an obvious consensus is forming.

no matter what you say.

AND, speaking of polls...

newsweek also did a hypothetical head-to-head matchup between Gore and McCain.

and Gore won by 3 points.

Doh!

I really do think that the media is trying to change our minds.

by a point, that will change!

Reich also said in an interview on CNN with Wolf Blitzer that it was a matter of conscience. That in order for anything to be done on behalf of the American people in DC, a change in how politics are approached and the involvement of the citizens were critical. That Obama was accomplishing both.

That's quite an impressive string of endorsements in a week when he's been under furious attack from the McCain marauders and hacked around by the TV media!

It does seem that it ought to be brought to a close soon and perhaps its just a couple of days before the right someone whispers the right words in HC's ear.

I believe we'll see a much more relaxed Obama going head-to-head with McCain; he'd have been really hauled over the coals if he'd been really rough on Hillary.

Can't you imagine how the AG mob screaming that he's abusive to women?! I won't specify the 10-letter plural h word that applies..

My sentiments exactly, if he were to join the fray, his critics would claim "see he's the same as the other politicos". I have no doubt he could take on McCain. The "debate" was ludicrous a serious discussion of economics and details about Iraq policy should have been first and foremost.

Instead we were insulted with trivial he said she said nonsense.

Yes, he said that Hillary's negative advertising and speeches trying to spin the flubbed lines about "guns and religion" into a deeply rooted character flaw drove him over the line and made him come forward with the endorsement today. Thank goodness there are still people who vote their conscience regardless of the pressure an embedded political machine may apply.

You know it could not be easy for either he or Governor Richardson to endorse Obama, ex-bosses wife...some degree of loyalty was strongly expected on Bill's behalf.

I'm not personally crazy about any of the presidential candidates, but I'm glad Reich is following his own guidance and not being a political pawn. I hope we don't get another "3-fer" where all 3 branches of government are controlled by a single political party. Democracy always takes a hit when that happens.

I am more libertarian, and it seems like they all want to chip away at rights.

The problem the last fifteen or so years is that the media has been decidedly right-wing, in addition to all three branches of gov.

A short period of 100% Dem control of all three branches of govt will be a good thing to right the ship, prosecute whatever Bush admin criminals aren`t pardoned by Dubya (there are so many I`m sure he`ll forget some), re-instate the Constitution & BoR, as well as bring some sanity back to our social safety nets and foreign policies.

The media has been downright strange--TV is cluttered with right-wing televangelists, and yet some major news outlets can be counted on to always present an ultra-left position on some issues. It's as if the far right and far left control everything, and there is no middle ground.

It's elementary. Do people want Bush 3 or Clinton 2? It's time to sweep out the old and bring in the new.

You make them both sound like tawdry remakes of old horror-flicks!

Bush 3. Clinton 2. america shouldn't green light either of these projects.

Bah jovial, don't even begin to say Bush 2 was anything like Bush 1, Bush 1 was far better :D

I have no feelings about the Bush 1 presidency one way or the other. He didn't provoke my wrath anyway. He was certainly more intelligent than his nit wit son. Perhaps yet another evidence that "dynastys" are not good for the US.

Mdiar, you need to do some reseaarch on Iran-Contra. And why do you think Shrub reclassified all his father's documents his first day in office?

avatar
Reply

I know about Iran Contra, I still have to say he's light years ahead of Bush 2

avatar

Or about the Savings and Loan scandal - where the whole Bush family was up to their ears in corruption and Bush daddy was crucial in the cover up.

You have to admit though, mediocre and slightly corrupt is still miles ahead of Dubya`s admin.

Bush 1 did his share of dirt, too! I've been reading up on him lately, and not liking what I'm finding out at all.

avatar
Reply

Of course he did. Every President has some form of dirt, Bush 1 more then the normal. But he's still light years ahead of Bush 2!

Or Carter redux.

Well history has now shown us that Carter had a better economic record than Reagan (higher growth, higher employment, less loss in real wages).

And, of course, Carter didn't engage in treason to get elected.

The Imperium's Quarter Century

If there is a birth date for today's American Imperium, it would be Jan. 20, 1981, exactly a quarter century ago, when Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President and Iran released 52 American hostages under circumstances that remain a mystery to this day....

Carter was a POS then and is a bigger one now. I have to commend you on you timing though, bring that morons name up now, that is.

Talk about corruption, the Clintons have been there, done that and have the trophies to prove it.

avatar

Carter created the federal alternative energy project to prevent our nation from being held hostage by ME dictators and terrorists. Reagan canceled that program and surrendered immediately after the 1983 Beirut bombing, after which OBL realized America was a "Paper Tiger".

Carter was a hero, Reagan was a zero.

Clintons only followed what the Reagans did, only with less killing and without arming our worst enemies Iran, OBL, and other terrorists like the Contras.

But compared to the corruption of the Bush 43 admin, even Reagan appears like a boy scout.

My ears always perked up when Robert Reich spoke.

cool

I will admit that I will be casting my vote to Obama on tuesday for emotional reasons.

I do not think he is a saint, and I do not like that he says he will increase the size of the military.

I was poking around and the largest DOD account was to an advertising agency (Tony the Tiger).

Oh well.

selling an unnecessary and counter-productive war for special interest profit aint easy.

The PR campaign pre-invasion ran over $300M. That is $300M of our money in order to lie to us and trick us into sending thousands of our relatives and friends off to their deaths, to line somebody else`s pockets.

There are no saints in politics, some are dirtier than others though. Obama has traits that are sorely needed in this country and the world right now, and he is less dirty than anyone else in the race. Perfect? no. We'll not see any perfect candidates, never did and never will.

avatar
Reply

Well said. Power corrupts and it is just a matter of time. No wonder the less experienced candidates always look less dirty. Lets hope the elected one can resist corruptions better and longer.

avatar

I believe there's a saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely - Bush 2 is thoroughly corrupt, thanks to every person in this country guilty of supporting him.

avatar
Reply

Every time I hear of support for Obama by the more well know in the party it gives me a reason to smile, there is a large group that are never going to give up on trying to defeat him whether it is from inside the party or not, I fear in the next little while we are going to see the media take a real run at him. I see comments all the time about how the media is liberal or conservative but my feeling on the media is that they are against much of the change that your country needs.

avatar
Reply

The media in the US, since the 1980s when "deregulation" was the republican banner, has been permitted to be gobbled up by giant corporations; most of which are also in the arms business. Most of these corporations do have a political agenda and if anyone really believes it is not conservative, they have little knowledge of the corporate structures in this country. The public was far better served when a single owner could not own more than one media outlet in a given market.
