It`s the same attitude he has about VA funding.
McCain has voted AGAINST military funding for our hurt soldiers. He also is against the new GI Bill.
Since he gets the best socialized medicine in the world outside of the VA, he figures why should any other vets get a benefit he doesn`t get.

This is probably an issue more people would be concerned about in a good economy
In too many areas of the country, people are wondering where ANY jobs are
They are more concerned about creating jobs
A report yesterday on the news: teenage unemployment in some areas is 15%
Look at some of the recent headlines :
IN: State unemployment rate rises in March
MI has the highest unemployment rate in the nation
Only Michigan and Alaska had higher unemployment rates than California
CA unemployment hits 6.2%; worse than Ohio, PA
MI had the highest jobless rate at 7.2%
South Carolina's rate was still above the national unemployment rate
California's unemployment rate is the third highest in the United States, trailing Michigan with 7.2% and Alaska with 6.7%
Do you really think people are focused on the equal pay issue right now??
The jobs that are around are relatively lower paying
People want to know what Congress is doing to help the economy and how they are going to help create more jobs

"McCain stated his opposition to the bill as he campaigned in rural eastern Kentucky, where poverty is worse among women than men. The Arizona senator said he was familiar with the disparity but that there are better ways to help women find better paying jobs."
The issue isn't finding better paying jobs, but EQUAL pay for the same or similiar type of job performed by women. He is denying access to redress a grievance in the ruse of steming a tide of lawsuits which many reputable studies show that this is just not the case. Wonder how he'd feel if it was a man of color who sued to get equal pay comparable to a white man? Probably the same.

Yes, but I'm running a little fever today, what did I miss. Are you talking about the statute of limitations?
People should sue for sexual discrimination.

Hey, dontja know that lawsuits result in more corporate expenditure, not to mention unwanted "harassment."
In other words, they're a form of (ohmygod!) regulation.
'Nuff said? (As they say.)

McCain opposes equal pay bill in Senate
John McCain is an 18 year Corrupt politician, this was evident with the Keating five saving and loan fraud.
McCain may well be a mental case with his history...

What astounds me is the REPUBLICAN push to turn this into Medieval America. And the fact that the twenty percenters on here, which include females (I think, after all they are REPUBLCIANS.....) openly support being trreated as second class citizens.

Gotta protect the windfall profits those corporations sacrificed your jobs and futures for! Here is the tragedy of American capitalism run amok. Should a corporation even have equal rights with a human being? Should they have more rights than a human being? Republicans think so. I feel bad for McCain in a way, I think his brain was eaten by Cheney back in 2000. He has been a completely different man since that campaign.

Let's say Hill wins the nomination and general and we have Pres Clinton again. Do ya think we could get away with paying her less than we did W and the new first hubby? Might be able to save a little money here.

I work in a warehouse type job and it's a daily thing for the women at work to say that things are too heavy and they can't lift things. They also say how they can't drive lift trucks and pickers. I end up doing all the heavy undesirable stuff while they watch. I don't think they should get paid what I do in that situation. But they do.

automan909 the women you work with do not represent me or my friends. If the only job we could get was in a warehouse, you bet your bottome dollar I'be be using the dolly, and learning to drive the forklifts. As for something being too heavy for me, I'd ask for assistance in lifting it. I wouldn't expect anyone to lift it for me. Jsut like I'd assist someone who needed it.

By the same logic, perhaps we should also throw out the Marijuana drug Laws since they lead to too many people in jail.

First thing I am going to say is that I feel that if a person can fufill the duties that are outlines in a job description they should recieve pay that is equal to others doing the same job although that can even be disputed if seniority is a factor in the pay scale for the job.
I am not going to say that I am defending Mr. McCain but I do see where he is coming from with his statement, his concern is with the time frame that would be allowed for a person to go back on in regards to sueing an employer. If we were to have the same situation in regards to race and left the door open with no timeline we would have people going back into the 50's and 60's and maybe 70's saying that they were discriminated against and were wishing to sue former employers.
I read the artical twice and this is the idea I got from it but maybe I misread. I sometimes feel that I'm a little like Mr. McCain my mouth is open just waiting for my foot.

"with no timeline we would have people going back into the 50's and 60's and maybe 70's saying that they were discriminated against and were wishing to sue former employers."
I don't believe the legislation eliminates the timeline for the statute of limitations. It simply reverses the court's earlier Ledbetter vs. Goodyear Tires decision. Lilly Ledbetter was not suing for discrimination that occurred in the 50s and 60s. In fact, when she filed suit, she was STILL employed.
From The Article:
"It is named for Lilly Ledbetter, a supervisor at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s plant in Gadsden, Ala., who sued for pay discrimination JUST BEFORE RETIRING after a 19-year career there."
Ledbetter can't even recover all 19 years of pay discrimination--only 2 according to the text of the law.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?c110:4:./...
"Recovery of back pay for up to two years preceding the filing of the charge"

ybdogsct- I couldn't get the link to work but is not the new legislation to repeal the courts decision. I agree that a person should have a reasonable amount of time to sue if discriminated against but there does have to be a timeframe involved. FRom the information you provide I will agree that Lilly Ledbatter was entitled to a fair settlement but the way laws are written sometimes the are exploited after the fact. IF there is a statute of limitations in regard to the bill then I have to say it likely is a good bill.

McCain, the "Republican/Big Business stooge" must not believe in "equal pay for equal work," if he opposes women being paid the same as a man!
This is typical of the "Republican/Big Business" mindset, that must be dealt with by voters, workers, minority groups, churches, unions, and honest business people.
That's why we have in the USA a 2 (3,4,5) party system, that enables people to choose & elect polititians who are responsive to the voters. We have choices: Republican, Democrat, Green, Labor, etc., and Independent, to campaign for, and elect, people who will listen to us, and represent us fairly. Or, their job should be only a temporary one.
Elected officials are on probation to represent us.

John McCain is a Republican. But, not all Republicans are like John Insane McCain.
I hate to inform you that special interests are on both sides now. the best alternative would be to vote Ron Paul or not at all. he is the only person fit for the job.
and is not supported by big business like the other 3 stooges...2 sides of the same coin!!!

No doubt, McCain thinks women should be beaten with clubs, dragged back into their caves by the hair, and put to work raising babies and cooking dinner. McCain in all his knuckle-dragging glory has finally exposed himself as the President for the year 50.

Equal pay for equal work! I'm for that and always have been. However to pay a trash collector the same as a secretary is completely wrong. Compare apples to apples.
