Politics – Few Republicans were more caustic when it came to John McCain's candidacy in the GOP presidential primary than former Sen. Rick Santorum. He castigated McCain on the issues - immigration, global warming, gay marriage and embryonic stem cell research, to name just a few. Today, however, Santorum makes the case in the Philadelphia Inquirer for why co
RICK SANTORUM BEFORE:

"On social conservative issues, you point to me one time John McCain ever took the floor of the United States Senate to talk about a social conservative issue. It never happened. I mean, this is a guy who says he believes in these things, but I can tell you, inside the room, when we were in these meetings, there was nobody who fought harder not to have these votes before the United States Senate on some of the most important social conservative issues, whether it's marriage or abortion or the like. He always fought against us to even bring them up, because he was uncomfortable voting for them.
McCain looks at the world through the eyes of the New York Times editorial board. If you're a Republican, if you're a Republican in the broadest sense, there is only one place to go right now and that's Mitt Romney."

"Anyone who has heard me talk about the presidential race over the last few months knows that I've had, shall we say, some serious reservations about John McCain's candidacy.
McCain is clearly the candidate with the capacity, judgment, experience and will to confront America's enemies. And, yes, McCain has been a thorn in the side of many of us who supported important appropriations earmarks for our states. But he's always objected with principled consistency."

However, what John McCain cannot fairly be called is a conservative.
If John McCain becomes the Republican Party's nominee, you have to think conservatives will become utterly despondent."

You're so right on with this, and to be completely honest with you, i couldn't believe how the people on Propeller flipped around so fast in order to justify McCain, just the way Santorum has.
My self formed opinion is, they will vote for anyone as long as there is an R beside their name rather than cross a party line. I know a lot of cons, and crossing a party line is NOT an option.
Well, to be fair not2needy, we Christian Cosnervatives dont see politics as an option.
Its our religion.
In our hierarchy of Sainted Ones, Ronald Reagan represents the second comin of Christ.
Ronnie is responsible for the sunshine and the song birds!! TWEET TWEET!
Goerge W. Bush is liek our Martin Luther, represents the official break from spirituality to gettin our minds right bout politics.
McCain is a tough one. We positioned him as a Judas for bout 8 years or so. But lately, hes been recantin at the alter of 'gettin his mind right.
So we Christian Cosnervatives, bein a forgivin kind are considerin bringin Johnny back into the fold.
n2n - It's not all that difficult to comprehend why the purportedly staunch conservative republican values neoclowns on Propeller have flipped and flopped as much as they have over supporting McCain and are now singing his praises where before they were castigating him. They're HYPOCRITES!
This is why you can see them spinning Hillary's win in Pennsylvania yesterday as a "blow-out" when it was not even close to being one because they believe that she is their only chance for a Republican victory in November.
Hillary went into Pa with a better than 20 point lead and squeaked out a 10 point victory - hardly earth shattering when you consider that even before the Pa primary she needed to win all of the remaining primaries and caucuses by better than a 60% margin and fell short yesterday.
John Q -- There's math to electoral results that I don't understand. A 55/45 win is considered pretty significant. Get over 60% of the vote and the media calls it a "mandate". Maybe that's the reality of the election world, but it sounds more to me like "You won, but don't dance in the streets." Guess I just don't understand elections.
For one thing six weeks ago, when Clinton had a 20 point lead in Pa. polls, her handlers and her husband all said if she didn't have double-digit lead in Pa, she would have to drop out. She did not really get the double digit lead. The reason is it is impossible for her to even tie Obama in delegates overall unless she gets at least 60 percent of the vote. That means straws are being reached for, which is to be expected, however there is no way to legitimately win for her. It will have to be my manipulating the rules of the game, the fact that she continues means just that...willing to cheat to win the game. Which sadly makes me put her in the bag with Bush in the sense that integrity ain't part of the deal.
N2N the cons hate change. It is the essence of all conservative thought- no change. Keep established social orders, institutions, and organizations.
They are a lock-step group and they want everyone to march to their masters orders. Progressives are the opposite. They question the ways of the past, never seem to be marching in lock step, as the only things they have in common is a high regard for individual rights, social justice, and personal freedom. Progressives tend to look for new solutions to problems rather than rely on the past methods. Santorum is among the nations leading imbeciles.

McCain 'is the classic opportunist--he's always reaching for attention. Other POWs won't even sit at the same table with him.
Perot's real problem with McCain is that he believes the senator hushed up evidence that live POWs were left behind in Vietnam and transferred to the Soviet Union for human experimentation. Perot claims, 'McCain was adamant about shutting down anything to do with recovering POWs.'

There has been a lot of talk that Obama can not play basketball with the big boys.

There will be no need (and I think it would be wrong) to "Swiftboat" McCain and I think Obama will nip any attempts in the bud.
There is a plethora of elbow stabs directed at McCain by his own party. No need to reach back to when he was 8 years old. A 10 year window would provide a new quote every day attributed to the heroes of the Republican party.

Before you fall off your high horse, I'd like you to point out where I have shown any hypocracy. I didn't support McCain then, and I have yet to utter one word in his praise. I am still planning to vote for Obama, although that prospect has lost some of it's original appeal. If I do ever support McCain (and that's HIGHLY unlikely!) it will be either because he has convinced me to change my mind, or because Hillary stole the nomination from Obama.
I await your apology for stereotyping me and missusing my quote.
Actually, I think you might be correct. As far as I can tell, you never did support McCain.
In that case, apologies are in order, even though this being the "Humor Channel," I wouldn't have thought apologies were in order for anyone with enough of a sense of humor to laugh at themselves once in a while.
But, in any case, I do apologize.

Not more than a few months ago, Republicans hurled insults at McCain for his betrayal of Republicans, particularly with regards to social conservative issues. But politics makes for strange bedfellows. Now that McCain has virtually tied up the Republican nomination, some of the most ardent anti-McCain bashers have flip flopped to become vocal McCain supporters.
This thread is for exposing the most egregious and the most laughable flip floppers.
