When it comes to getting U.S. troops out of Iraq, Sen. John McCain was for the idea before he was against it. Before the Arizona Republican argued on the campaign trail that U.S. forces could be in Iraq for 100 years he decried the very concept of a long-term troop presence.

I don't see any contradictions in being opposed to the war before it started but supporting the successful conclusion of military action after the war starts and our troops are there.

Your tags, though I would imagine as being pretty ineffectual, are hilarious.

I found this story by typing in chicanery! ;-)

He has become the uncontested poster boy for pandering.

No one is even close in this competition.

It is really pathetic and sad to see McCain, who I once respected very much, become so desperate to be President that he compromises his principles on just about every issue so that he can be President.

Can that job really be worth the selling of one's soul?

I can't figure how McCain and those like him (W and Cheney come to mind) actually sleep at night. They either use drugs, they are devoid of a conscience, or they have truly deceived themselves (or have been deceived) into believing that they are actually doing the right thing.

I don't know how far fetched the idea really is that the real McCain has been replaced with a look alike.

I'm not sure, but somebody should ask Hillary.

Actually the humor he used to have is long gone. He actually cracked me up by referring to a retirement home called pleasure acres as Seizure Acres. LOL. That was the old McCain. The new one isn't funny at all.

And some of my friends wonder why I'm having so much trouble voting any kind of conscience vote in this election. EVERY candidate has gone so far beyond just mis-speaking and blatantly changed positions at every turn including McCain.

What is an American that's trying to do the right thing supposed to do in good conscience.? Every vote I've made it's always a "lesser of 2 evils" vote but you can only vote so evil IMO.

rdy2rk, although I agree there is no perfect candidate and there never has been or will be. There are clear differences among the remaining 3. As you probobly know, I support Senator Obama. He was dead right about Iraq, He long ago warned of the housing-mortagage problem, way before either Clinton or McCain (and certainly the current occupant in the W.H.)were aware of the problem. He has the least connection to PACs and Lobbyists. Has not flip floped on any issue to pander to anyone to my knowledge. In fact the only negatives the Bush cheerleaders keep posting here are from dubious opinion blogs, not credible sources, often based on chain e mails from an anonymous source, or the statement of an insane asylum inmate. I won't bug you to vote for anyone in particular, but I encourage you to look at the policy, intelligence and integrity of all 3, (forget the gossip or claiming someone else speaks for the candidates please).

          There are real differences.
