McCain has repeatedly voted to save tax cuts for the rich, rather than provide veterans with adequate healthcare. McCain voted against eliminating increased fees and co-payments for veterans by eliminating corporate tax breaks. McCain was 1 of only 13 Republicans to vote against adding $400 million for inpatient and outpatient care for veterans.

My husband has to pay co-payments to the VA, and if he's late, they attach his SS check. Thanks McCain! The more i know about this man the less i like him.

hey - $400 million could support a full day of destruction in Iraq - now what is more important, Veterans or blowing things up?

"Senators Webb and Hagel have introduced the Post-9/11 Veterans' Educational Assistance Act (S22) to replace the existing GI Bill. Senators Obama and Clinton both support this increase in benefits. Senator McCain does not.

Why can't we value their existing service enough to compensate them accordingly? Why can't we honor that service by fulfilling the promise of access to higher education that was made when they enlisted initially? Why is this even being debated?"

        http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ar...

"Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who is basing his bid for the White House on his credentials as a decorated veteran and leader on defense policy, has become the target of veterans groups pushing hard for more aid and relief for troops returning from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan."

Both Hagel(republican) and Webb (democrat) are examples of the right stuff. With so much negative press on congress, these two are examples of how it SHOULD and COULD be done.

"Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., said he adamantly believes the government has a greater obligation to help veterans who served after Sept. 11, 2001. Webb, along with Sens. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J. and Chuck Hagel R-Neb., authored the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act (S 22), which aims to modernize the GI Bill.

Nationally, Democratic presidential candidates New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama are both co-sponsors of the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act, as is Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown. Arizona Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, is not supporting the bill.

Paul Rieckhoff, IAVA director and a veteran of the Iraq war is quick to point out: "The annual price tag for fully-funding college for today's veterans is less than the amount of money we spend every two weeks in the War on Terror."

"'We view the G.I. Bill as the cost of war,' said Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and a strong proponent of Webb's bill. 'The troops in Fallujah and Kandahar deserve the same commitment from our nation in war as those who fought in Normandy and Guadalcanal.'

But the bill's future is clouded by politics and the upcoming presidential election, advocates say. The first bill died in committee last year under partisan budget wrangling - some lawmakers objected to the new G.I. Bill's cost."

            http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,161...

"President Bush's final defense budget, for fiscal 2009, asks a reluctant Congress for a third time to raise Tricare co-payments on drugs dispensed at retail pharmacies and to increase Tricare enrollment fees and deductibles for working-age military retirees and their families."

"Cheated. Baited and switched. That's how veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan say they feel about military recruiters who sold them on how the GI Bill would benefit them. Soldiers, Marines and airmen said they are not given enough funds from the bill to cover college expenses as they were promised.

Todd Bowers served two tours in Iraq: 'I came home proud, very proud of my service, with a Purple Heart and a Navy commendation medal with a "V" for Valor. But I didn't come back to the education I was expecting. I came back to three different types of student loans, two of which had gone to collections.'

McQueen left behind her husband and 18-month-old daughter in October 2004 and served 10 months in Iraq. After her service, she enrolled in college and found that her total benefits from the GI Bill would be $400 a month for four months, totaling $1,600. Her classes alone, she said, cost $1,000 each."

McCain already has an education, why should anybody else get something he doesn`t need?

McCain is also already cheating on his taxes by paying for his children`s education through tax-free donations to their schools through the McCain family `charity`.

Pretty clever tax fraud, don`t you think?

So not only does McCain screw other vets, he is screwing those of us who pay our taxes for his kids education as well.

                Good ol` Honest John!

McCain is a pathetic hypocrite. He has sold his soul in his obsession to become President.

It is really so sad and so bizarre, the change in McCain from the man he was in 2000.

"John McCain is a long-time acquaintance of mine at the U.S. Naval Academy and as Prisoners of War in Vietnam. There are a number of reasons why I will not vote for him for President.

Believe me when I say that back then I would never in a million or more years have dreamed that the crazy guy across the hall would someday be a Senator and candidate for President!

John was a wild man. He was intent on breaking every USNA regulation in our 4 inch thick USNA Regulations book. And I believe he must have come as close to his goal as any midshipman who ever attended the Academy.

McCain barely managed to graduate, standing 5th from the bottom of his 800 man graduating class. I and many others have speculated that the main reason he did graduate was because his father was an Admiral, and also his grandfather, both U.S. Naval Academy graduates."

Another thing he has in common with Bush, legacy entitlements have enabled them and created a completely false sense of reality where they can get away with zero accountability.

In his very long career in Washington DC, is there any position that John McCain has taken and then NOT flip-flopped on? Surely there must be something, no matter how insignificant.

Another day another 're-evaluation of a previous position'. We're now down to 189 days to the election which mean we can ALL look forward to 189 MORE 're-evaluations of previous positions'.

It's all about lock-step allegiance to the Republican party. Look at how he's cozied up to GWB after the whole South Carolina "black baby" thing.

Well spoken, cool friend, Republicans who dare disagree with the GOP find themselves looking for a new career...

From Republicans may I query, what do you think we should do with the folks who brought us NAFTA, Iraq, and Iran-Contra? Give them medals for rewriting the truth?

And you call me misinformed? ciao
