
Politics – During an interview this morning on NPR, former Vice President Al Gore criticized Bush for approving the techniques, calling it "obscene," adding that his use of signing statements is "a raw assertion of authority outside the boundaries of the law
I had never heard of signing statements before this administration. I know that previous presidents wanted the line item veto; but it was unconstitutional.
Simply muttering an exemption while signing a bill, seems contrary to the constitution idea of the legislative branch creating the law.
I like how Gore points out that it was George Washington who banned torture.
