Navy releases McCain's military record

Politics – From his five years in a North Vietnamese prison camp to his tenure as the Navy's liaison to the Senate, John McCain's Navy record boils down to a series of unadorned paragraphs that bestow upon him some of the nation's top military honors.

I don't like all of his politics -- No one perfectly matches what I like. But I certainly do like the man. Tested, tried and true.

Obama thinks he's been through the ringer? He would wilt at what this man endured. McCain 2008!

He dooesn't have a snowwballs chance in heck, but there's not much I disagree with this guy on:

It's worth checking hiim out.

I really don't think Obama is going to be president. Too much hate in that guy. Too far off to the left. Too much indoctrinated in the Wright school of bigotry. He even called his grandmother a "typical white person." If that isn't bigotry, nothing is.

As for the Libertarians, I used to be a party member. Then I realized too many of them were nuts. Some good ideas, but they'll never amount to a political force.

Occasionally, they can get Republicans to adopt some Libertarian policy ideas, but their very hatred of central organization is exactly what dooms them as a political force. To win in this nation, you have to be organized, and too many Libertarians are all about anarchy.

I know, but like I've said many times on here, if we want real change we need to get both Dems and Reps out of power.

Both parites have had a strangle hold on this country for far too long and they both know that as long as one of them win, in the long run they both win.

We'll never get them both out of power. Politics is all about political machinery. In the rare instance a third party gains a power position, the other two parties stifle them (kind of like when Ventura was gov in Minnesota).

Too many options can be bad. Lots of European nations have several parties, and often times nothing gets done. One party gains control for a while, then loses power - making the entire time in power pretty much a waste. Another rises up and tries some stuff. Fails, and another takes its place.

What I have done for the last three elections is vote for the person not holding office. From what I've seen none of them are doing a good job so why vote for them to keep their jobs. If enough people would do this it might wake them up. Not the best solution but one I'm sticking with for now. As to POTUS none of the above??? (LOL)

I would really have a difficult time voting for someone or not voting for someone because they are in office or not. I think I'll stick to trying to vote for those who reflect my political philosophy. It's a little more difficult but more satisfying.

Have you all considered that what we have, as Americans, is pretty darn good.

Do we really need "change", ie getting rid of everything that we have? Or do we need to tweak and improve on our solid foundation of our representative government?

What is the stranglehold on? What is terrible about large successful companies that can't be fixed, rather than destroyed?

did you then vote for Ron Paul in the primary... I DID...

WOW actually finding commentary I agree with lRf AND newbie at the same time..

I too used to be a Libertarian party member but left them for the same reasons as you cite. Also, their total lack of any reasonable foreign policy. I often heard that organizing libertarians is like herding cats and it's true.

Obama doesn't have a chance to win and the democrats know it but they will give him the nomination because they are afraid of losing African American voters. It's their own fault for playing identity politics.

I'm with you and Libs on this one. Libertarians have some good ieas, but some bad ones too. I can't stand their nanny state stance on drugs for one thing.

avatar
Reply

Libertarians have a "nanny state stance" on drugs?

Please elaborate on that.

Libertarians were for personal liberty on the issue of drug use of all types. When did that change?

avatar

Libertarians are Republicans who want to smoke pot and have illicit sex.

not necessarily... but they wouldn't care if you did...

we want the govenment to be as invisible as possible....

John McCain is a real hero. Now that's the last time I'll use his real name. I'm going to vote for him and I'm encouraging my family and friends to hold their noses and vote for him too but I don't like it. My neighbor told me this morning that he would have to take a bucket to the polls to vomit in when he voted but he was going to vote for Ol' John even if it made him sick. lol

I understand your comment ... I too will vote for John as the lesser of two evils. I would like to see somebody like bobby Jindal on the ticket with him.

JIndal is being investigated on ethics charges. Perfect choice. Sounds like your man.

Hillary has no ethics and Obama has his own ethics issues (Rezco)...not sure you and your party are in a position to be judgemental.

My party is the "Natural Law" party if you want to be specific. I vote the person, not party.

You have something against war veterans?

You missed the point obviously and knee jerked.

Well then I guess you are lucky you werent standing close by.

Maybe you would like to explain your point to this poor ignorant country boy.

The simpleton had no point to make other than he or she is embittered and hates McCain, Walmart and old veterans in general - the very same veterans who ensure our rights so such moronic comments can be made.

I missed the point as well. Please tell us what it is. I'm dying to know.

avatar

I guess we will never know. SOoooo sad

How about THIS point.....more seniors and war vets have having to get 'Extra Jobs' to make ends meet (because of the lack of support for those groups by the Bush Administration) then any other time in our countries history.

Ironically, if John McCain were NOT in (or RUNNING for) an elected position he would be FORCED to retire from ANY Government job years ago.

And with the exception of Wal-Mart would be unable to get a job ANYWHERE because of his age.

to be honest..you guys weren't saying the same thing about John Kerry...

John McCain is truly an American hero. We don't always agree on everything, but he will be my President. BTW, for 8 years all we heard from the Democrats was the importance of a military recored, excluding their proven draft dodger who recieved 2 draft notices before his flight to Europe, what branch of service was the young Kenyan-American in?

avatar
Reply

Apparently, the Weathermen, Black Panthers, militant Muslims and the "I Hate Whitey Society."

avatar
Reply

I'm still waiting for those military records that Kerry promised.

Four years ago.

avatar
Reply

I guess those Democrats who were saying that his record was only that of a prisoner of war and nothing else will have to eat their words.

McCains advantage is the problem that the conservatives have with him. That makes him appeal to the center and Obama is the far left with all the baggage he now carries.

McCain needs to start painting him with what his web site says. Far left tax and spend.

avatar
Reply

Oh, he's far MORE than a prisoner of war...

".. in exchange for better medical treatment, McCain violated [the Code of Conduct] four days after being captured on Oct. 26, 1967. In a U.S. News and World Report interview dated May 14, 1973, two months after he was released, McCain admitted that he exchanged military information in exchange for spending six weeks in a hospital normally reserved for North Vietnamese Military officers.

U.S. government records show that less than two weeks after he was taken to the hospital, Hanoi's press began quoting specific military information, including the name of the aircraft carrier on which McCain had been based, information about the location of rescue ships and the order of which his attack was supposed to take place..."

That is why they gave him all of those medals.

When captured he had, among other broken bones, two broken arms. Would you do as well if you were tortured while not receiving treatment for multiple broken bones? He had to try and eat with two broken arms. Could you do it without treatment? The hospital treatment he received left him unable to raise his hands to comb his hair.

avatar
Reply

Now where in the Military code of conduct does it specify that you can sell out your country if you have broken bones?

Hey, I'm just taking a page from the Swiftboat Smear Playbook.

If Kerry didn't 'deserve' his medals, then heck, maybe McCain didn't really 'deserve' his either.

Maybe he got all those medals because his dad was a 4-star Admiral at the time. Maybe that's how this bottom -of-the-class finisher got into flight school in the first place. Not saying that's the case, just putting it out there...

Maybe torture does work after all.
