He certainly does seem to have a firmer grasp on the subject than McCain does. McCain has even admitted on several occasions that economics is not his strong suite and I have seen little if anything from him to persuade me that he is reasonably knowledgeable in the other areas as well.
Why doesn't everyone admit it - we get the short end of the stick no matter who is elected - the best we can hope for is a democratic sweep of congress - that would keep McCain in check if he is elected & perhaps give Obama some guidance if he is elected. Hillary as much as it pains me to say appears to be a non-issue as of now.
