Are you guys insane? Have seven-plus years of Bush-Cheney abyss-gazing robbed you of any sense of humor?
HE WAS JOKING!
Listen to the ENTIRE clip, so elegantly edited in the transcript provided by the GOP website linked to above -- knowing full well that you're all too lazy to listen to the entire clip. He pauses after he says "I've been to fifty... seven states?", said as a QUESTION, as if he'd actually travelled to that many. At that point the audience laughs, and then continues with, "And they wouldn't let me visit Alaska and Hawaii," which garnered more laughs.
He was commenting on the amount of travel he had done. And maybe, juuuust maybe, he wanted to test the idiocy factor of the Far Right knuckleheads, like the majority of the posters here.
BTW: Here's an abbreviated list of how many people Obama is smarter than:
Any of you naysayers willing to go back and really listen to the clip, and repost here that yes, it was said in jest, and the audience KNEW it?
Or is the sign that you're well aware that Obama is on target to be our next President, and that rather than try and repair the rifts in America, you and your "Big Lie" leaders like Rush et al, will simply bitch and complain for eight long (and for the rest of us, prosperous) years?
BTW, AG: You consider the GOPUSA.com website piece a "tongue-in-cheek article"? I have to wonder at your honesty, sir. And I say that as a registered Republican in Indiana who voted for Obama in the primary, and will gladly do so again in November.
First off, the Dems didn't vote for McCain in the primaries, DKL. The competition between Obama and Hillary was too intense for either pol's backers to waste a vote for the Old White Man's candidate.
Second, you said, "(Y)ou certainly don't care about traditional Conservativism."
Show me the party that CONSERVATIVELY uses our military, not spurious nation building, which they promised NOT to do.
Show me the party that CONSERVATIVELY spends our children's future, not spending us into record deficits.
Show me the party that CONSERVATIVELY lies to us, only when absolutely necessary, not every damn minute of every damn day.
Show me the party that CONSERVATIVELY infringes on states' rights.
Show me the party that CONSERVATIVELY uses good judgement where scandalous behavior might enter their own life.
And when you HONESTLY look at these values - conservative use of the military, spending and PERSONAL family values - I gotta admit, it ain't the Republican party.
Of course, I left off the environment, governmental secrecy, foreign policy, consensus-building and a host of areas where a "true conservative" (if there is such a thing) would expect a far better performance than from the Republican party over the past decade.
Eisenhower and Teddy Roosevelt would not recognize their party.
BTW: If I sound just a tad angry, mea culpa. I guess my tolerance for knuckleheadedness is at a record low.
It's sad to think that people are so married to a Party that will accept lies before considering seeking better candidates for their party or 3rd party candidates. Party before country.
Bet those are some pretty cheap tickets you're selling if you're getting Dems to pay to see any more of that. They've paid through the nose to see it for seven years non-stop, already.
Personally, though not a Dem, I want NO taxes. But, that said, I'll take a serious attempt at fiscal responsibility over crash and burn any day of the week.
I think to question Obamas intelligent is not a good way to go for the GOPers, but who am I to stop self-destruction. The man went to Columbia/Harvard/Harvard law. teaches Constitutional Law at the UOI and they really think people are going to buy that he doesn't know it's 49 states. To me this is stereotype gone wild, he is black therefore she is stupid. I know this he is smarter than bush, McCain, Dick, rove all of them together.
Look the guy called Mat on the today show Tim several times. Which of us haven't been that tired? I know I have, and god knows I am not under all the pressure he is. Even Hill is not facing the same pressure, she hasn't had to talk about Rev Wright. Also to make this an issue when McCain couldn't differentiate between the factions in Iraq then you are just out and out reaching.
Oh yeah he's ready to be President of these 50 states. Thanks for the laughs Obama.
That's very interesting.? Hmm...Why would he say 57 states? People had better wake up.
This is why Obama's supporters want Hillary to quit now because they are afraid that something else might come out about him or that he might say something STUPID AGAIN. I'm sure there are more things that will come out about him soon.
It's a pretty good bet on Hillary's part. Whenever Obama opens his mouth there is a great chance he'll say something stupid. Her only problem is she is running out of time.
you're all making a big deal out of a small mistake. After president Bush the world is making fun of us. I think we should be glade to have Obama as president to fix our appearance in the world a little. He's by far more intelligent than Hillary or Maccain.
Obama makes his own gaffs and Hillary has Bill to thank. No, Hillarys only problem is she ran out of time. (past tense) She should have started swiftboating Obama back in December. Was she trying to play nisie nicie? I doubt it! She's slower at the switch than we think. She's never nice.
It's about as likely that Obama was referring to Islamic states as it is that he was referring to the states plus Washington, DC; American Samoa; Federated States of Micronesia; Guam; Midway Islands; Puerto Rico; and the U.S. Virgin Islands--in other words, all the states plus American territories and protectorates.
That's 57 all told, according to the U.S. government, which administers citizenship exams.
Come to think of it, it's MORE likely that he was thinking of all the American protectorates and territories, given that he's been a professor of Constitutional law.
I guess those who want to smear Obama would rather not let facts--especially ones they didn't know--get in the way though...
While I share your beliefs about the comment not being about Islamic states, I think tanglang gives the likely explanation below. He said that he had been to all 57 states except for the two his staffers forbade (Alaska & Hawaii) and that he had one left to go. 50 minus 3 equals 47. An honest mistake to be sure.
Yes, and besides he has not traveled to all the territories no matter how you cut it. His gaff can be attributed to a hard and BITTER campaign. We all slip up when exhausted.
I don't think most people could do the marathon of a presidential campaign. Grueling, and by the end they all babble with a mad fevered look in their eyes...
lol, this tongue-in-cheek article cracked me up! lol, go Obama . . . the man doesn't even know how many states he wants to be president of! :D
Rush pointed out that the Organization of the Islamic Conference represents the 57 Islamic states and that maybe Obama was thinking of this.
Ohhhhh.
Are you guys insane? Have seven-plus years of Bush-Cheney abyss-gazing robbed you of any sense of humor?

I find it hard to believe that you're a Republican. If you are, you certainly don't care about traditional Conservativism.
Maybe he just got sick and tired of being lied to!
So he's voting for a Democrat?
Didn't Limbaugh urge his listeners to vote for a Democrat?
In the primary to weaken Obama during the General Election. Kind of like the Dems voted for McCain in the Republican primaries.

Drip, you wouldn't know a traditional Conservative if they bit you on the nose.
No danger of that while I'm conversing with you.
I am more Conservative than you Fascists every day of the week.
Conserve your strength and stop tying this ignorance. Type a job application instead.
And they would, too!
...make you get a job, yes.
Curious. What do you do? Work for a circus?
I earn pretty well, by the way, so not sure why you keep trying to go there...
Yes, I round up Democrats for the freak show.
Ah. A barker for "GOP on tour".
Bet those are some pretty cheap tickets you're selling if you're getting Dems to pay to see any more of that. They've paid through the nose to see it for seven years non-stop, already.
What? I thought Dems wanted higher taxes. The Dems perform in the freak show...just watch Pelosi and Reid.
Personally, though not a Dem, I want NO taxes. But, that said, I'll take a serious attempt at fiscal responsibility over crash and burn any day of the week.
Vote for a real Conservative then. Maybe you'll get the chance the next Presidential election.
There hasn't been a real conservative nominee in my entire life.
You haven't been around long then. Inexperience would explain your ignorance.
Here's a list of people who don't care what Templar just wrote: DropkickaLib, AlphaGnosis, , etc...
Did Templar write something? ; )
Neophile, you are QUICK! :D
Neo has a list of us set for autoneg.

Oh yeah and i do know how many states there is in the union it's not 49!
49.5. Half of California has returned to Mexico.
Look the guy called Mat on the today show Tim several times. Which of us haven't been that tired? I know I have, and god knows I am not under all the pressure he is. You're right. "Hillary ain't never been called a N----R!" What would she know about being attacked?
Oh yeah he's ready to be President of these 50 states. Thanks for the laughs Obama.

As long as he doesn't let an "Allah Akbar" slip out while on the campaign trail.
It's a pretty good bet on Hillary's part. Whenever Obama opens his mouth there is a great chance he'll say something stupid. Her only problem is she is running out of time.
LOL. I'd comment but gots lots of indiscriminate negging to do:)
Is Comrad OBama showing his Muslim side?
He is either comrade or Muslim. The two don't mix very well. I say he is neither.
you're all making a big deal out of a small mistake. After president Bush the world is making fun of us. I think we should be glade to have Obama as president to fix our appearance in the world a little. He's by far more intelligent than Hillary or Maccain.

Perhaps he included Afghanistan and Iraq as well that Bush is trying to annex.
But has he been to those countries this election cycle? If the answer is yes then it sheds a whole new light on this silly issue.
Yes, and besides he has not traveled to all the territories no matter how you cut it. His gaff can be attributed to a hard and BITTER campaign. We all slip up when exhausted.
That is kindly said.
