Politics – Dear Barack Obama: I grew to like you over the last year. I've always thought of you as dangerously naive at best. Eloquent, gifted, genuine, yes. But dangerously naive at best.
Good article RRJ. I hate that we only have 999 characters to write on this site. That "Hope and Change" message along with the "Yes We Can" have been such a joke. And then there were the first rallies that people were fainting at. OMFG, he is a rock star. And the throngs prove it.
But, his messages are what have gotten me to look the other way. Seriously, when a politician starts preaching it is time to look the other way. AG coined it perfectly last year when she wrote the words... "Cult Of Personality."
He preaches at his rallies, and the throng of worshipers shout "yes we can" as an amen. He has the way of bringing them together. But, you and I both know that he is another politician. You and I can think of two words that sum him up just like his counterparts. Illegal Immigration, are two words that still come to mind. But, remember we would vote against that and so then we are labeled racist cause we want Illegals to go home.
..""Cult Of Personality."
Yes, just like one of my all-time favorites, Comrade Stalin.
Hummm isn't Black liberation Theology Marxist in basic theory? Maybe that is were I'm getting the Comrade OBama idea from.
(But secretly I'm more of the Rasputin fan. Man could handle his poison and liquor and he definitely had a way with the women as well as being a-political. A true party animal.)
What exactly were your fore fathers when thet hit American shores? Immigrants. Why is it all of a sudden America can longer be a dream for people to strive towards? I agree it must be done through the front door and not the back but, let us be fair and look at our own histories. On a different note, They are all politicians and anyone who thinks not is fooling themselves. I will say this I have spent many hours studying these candidates and for all that I've learned I voted in my primary for Senator Obama. And I am as blue collar as it gets. The others are ,well, my mother always told me if I couldn't say something nice not to say anything at all so I'll abstain from making degrading comments in regards to the other candidates. I will say this a whole lot of the people on here sound an awful lot like elitists to me, know what they say? People who live in glass houses.....
When we use the term "immigrants" it's used incorrectly as we try to be politically correct. Most of us are upset by the illegal aliens sneaking across the border or other foreigners being here without legal status. Most politicians court certain blocks of voters and so do not take a position which would be good for the nation. There are all that way. The American dream is being destroyed by our lack of an immigration policy and a lack of control of our borders.
You call a lot of us elitists here, what happened to your mother's advise? Did she want you to speak no ill will toward politicians?
bama- you are reasoning with the unreasonable. Nothing they say makes sense, their real reason for not voting for Obama is very simple but you couldn't get a bunch of cowards to say I am racist. They would like to think they are god fearing good Christians. They are full of hate and if there is a judgment day, they will have to answer to a higher authority.
So let me understand this, if I don't vote for Obama I'm a racist? How narrow mined and misguided. Need I point out it sounds like you are the racist but I don't know you.
You know darn well that's not what I am saying...don't try to put words in my mouth tbkennedy53. If this is what you gathered from what I am saying then you need to take a closer look. Your reverse psychology is so seventh gradeish. And yes, you are raciest if you are among that bunch of cowards of which i speak.
Open your eyes tbkennedy53 it doesn't take to genius to know that if some one is spitting all of the usual racial stereotypes that they are racist! Or do you think they are doing so because they are loving of the black person they are berating? Look, we are not the idiots that you think. The operative words being ( you think...the editorial you that is) they/you are not talking over our heads, we are actually ignoring your ignorance when you think we don't understand your double speak. The only one that doesn't understand is those very ones assuming they are over our heads.
So true. I wonder how much those that call people that do not support Obama "racist" would support Alan Keyes

(or Michael Steele http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/mdmanual/08conoff/htm...
or Clarence Thomas

if they were runnning for President...)
I think 999 characters is probably a good limit; brevity being the soul of wit.
As for messages of change, the new Republican motto of "Change You Deserve" is not getting enough air time.
I would like to hear exactly what the Republican leadership thinks America deserves, and how much is it going to hurt?
I would much prefer to see a responsible adult elected to the oval office. Ron Paul comes to mind.....
Ron Paul can kiss my ass. Anyone that is supported by the League of the South is not for me or for the country for that matter
HaHaHa - what makes you think Dr. Paul can control who supports him? EVERYONE in the U.S. should support him. At least, everyone who believes we should be governed by the Constitution. Which guarantees what? FREE SPEECH. The League of the South, the KKK, the Nazis, even the DEMOCRATS should be SUPPORTING Ron Paul. He may not agree with anything they say or stand for, but at least he is willing to make sure they have a RIGHT to say it. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't see any "free speech zones" under a Paul administration. Or have you forgotten about that?
Jose, could you please explain your position? How so has Dr. Paul "naive" on foreign policy? Is it because he doesn't want us to police the world? Is it because he didn't fall for the absurd 'war on terror' mandate??? Is it because he has openly stated we were attacked on 9-11 because of our foreign policy?
((First came your wife's comment about being proud of America for the first time -- conveniently, right after you started winning primaries.))
I have a huge problem with her statements. She is no first lady for the US. She is doing as much damage for Obama as Bill has done for Hillary.
Why do you have a problem with her statement? What she said was how most of the African-Americans, the ones that I know, have said. People are not supposed to feel pride in their country for no good reason. I bet that there were alot of people that felt pride in Nazi Germany. Considering what African-Americans have gone through during our stay here, I agree with her. My question is would he be this popular is he was 100% African-American instead of what racists like Rush Limbaugh would call Halfrican?
You're not free, half your income is owned by the goverment, more when you spend your half. White is now a minority in a large portion of America. 21, your auto insurance treats you like a kid until you're 25.
Oh yeah all you land owners... you are only renting that land as in land tax. When the goverment wants the land back they will take it!!

The last line of this article says exactly what I think of Barak Hussein Obama. lol Good post, RedRiverJ.
It does point out he is no different than any other politician. They all tell you what you want to hear and sometimes they slip up and get caught up in their own trappings.
Barack says he will raise taxes, McCain flip-flopped and says he will protect the tax handouts for the rich.
Who is being the career politician and who is being `real`?
Wow-this should be reprinted for every election.
it already is. we`ve seen the same one-sided, hypocritical hair-splitting, character assassination attempts from the Right in every election for the last decade or more.
To the author:
"You're wrong about why small-town Americans don't vote for Democrats."
Hey Sherlock, you`re wrong about small-town Americans not voting Dem, we are brother, we are!!
We`ve had enough of the elitist crooks transferring our wealth to the cronies, lobbyist, war mongers, and political ******s.
Obama represents our first chance in many elections to elect a president who is not beholden to the right-wing or left-wing establishment.
If any con cared about constitutional rights, they never would have voted for Bush in the first or second place, and they sure as heck wouldn`t be considering McCain.
The last line of the article:
"And we see you're just a horse's ass."
Its a good line for shock value; since the article starts out politely, as though gently rebuking Obama for the mistakes he made. Then gradualy builds up into that shriek of hate.
John McCain recently said:
"This mindless, paralyzing rancor must come to an end. We belong to different parties, not different countries,"
That McCain says these things (and seems to mean it) is perhaps the final reason the far right is not and can not ever be comfortable with him.
And the fact that McCain is willing to say things like that even if the far right dislikes it is a very good thing. Bush and other politicians are too concerned with left or right, that has to be forgotten for this country to get back on the correct path.
It's funny to me that you don't like him but you are looking for some one just like him!!! Makes sense to you I guess.
I actually do like McCain.
Stay with me here Cloud, take your head out of you...i was speaking to the letter that stated they were looking for someone like Obama.
> "This mindless, paralyzing rancor must come to an end. We belong to different parties, not different countries,"
This from the guy who sought out the bigot preacher Hagee`s endorsement for over a year?
This from the guy who jumped on Bush`s BS to try to attack Obama over too much common sense?
Uh-huh, John, more hypocritical BS isn`t going to get you any more moderate/independent votes.
More talk, more of the McSame.
Im impressed an unknown submits a letter/article and starts a following of believers. Does anyone really wonder where the Mansons and bigamy churchs and other cults come from!!
This line is telling:
"We don't vote for Democrats because we're self-reliant so we don't like the government trying to "solve" everything for us."
This coming from someone who lives in a time when gains have already been made. While the Democrats are not perfect, they do espouse ideas that have made society better.
Cons whine about not wanting the government to "solve" things, but ignore that sometimes the government has to intervene to raise everyone's boat.
To hear Cons tell it, they'd be happy being stuffed in a coal mine at six to work fourteen to sixteen hour days because that means the government did not "solve" anything.
On the one hand, Cons laugh at Libs because they say we think the terrorists will stop bombing people if we ask them not to nicely. On the other, they think that business owners will not exploit labor if we ask them not to nicely.
It's out of balance.
Get over the "self reliant" myth, Cons.
