Democrats Quash GOP Move to Adopt McCain's GI Bill Alternative

Politics – Senate Democrats on Wednesday quashed a surprise Republican move. By 55-42, the Senate tabled, and thus killed, an amendment offered by McCain ally Lindsey Graham that would expand GI Bill educational benefits for veterans. Six Republicans joined Democrats in voting to table. McCain and his two Democratic presidential rivals were absent.

His watered down version should be squelched. The man's a fool.

...just proving why he graduated 3 from the bottom of his free, squandered education at the Naval Academy!

Figures that McCain and his sycophants would attempt to hijack and water down this legislation. This elitist prick has never done much more for those currently in the service and those who have already served than wave the flag and mouth empty rhetoric!

I guess this is what he meant when he said that he was working on a "bill" of his own!

Is this another sign of the Democrats compromising on a bill so they could get it passed? Or do they just want it as an issue? They have accomplished nothing this entie term, now they want your vote again, amazing.

"They have accomplished nothing this entie term"

Of course they have. They stopped the Psuedo-conservatives dead in their tracks.

W hasn't invaded or bombed Iran yet! More Bush cronies have been exposed and then resigned, one even convicted for perjury (although pardoned before serving jail time and he made money off all the Repug legal donations).

Yes, W hasn't bombed Iran yet!

Sick anick just doesn't get it that anything positive from the Congress was vetoed by W and his vetos in turn held up by the sycophant Senatorial repugs!

Once again. The republicans filibuster every piece of legislation, which pushes the number needed to pass above the simple majority held by democrats. You can't pass it if the republicans do that. It's not the fault of the democrats. It's the fault of stupid people who voted for republican congress people. So I suggest if the country is mad at democrats in particular, they STOP voting in obstructionist republicans. Can't have your cake and eat it too, ani.

Sick Anick, short memory? Forget the 109th "Do NOTHING" Repug Congress... where Hastert even declared only a 4 day work week since all the big lobbyists were writing the law of the land. The Hastert House that wouldn't even make any ethics changes after either the Foley or Abramoff scandals.

CSPAN testimony even brought out that the Repugs would stop their lobbyist session on the Medicare Prescription bill development.... if a Dem showed up! Un-American to subsidize by law the HMOS/Big pharmaceutical companies and also tell Medicare constituents they couldn't negotiate lower prices!

Actually, I think Hastert got them down to a 3-day workweek. He and his fellow Republicans really whined when Pelosi said they would work 5 days a week (what a concept!).

THAT was a definite WASTE of taxypayer money, as they got paid the SAME regardless of how much they even showed up let alone worked.

When Pelosi put them back to work, some of them whined that it would be hard on their families. They should tell that to the working poor, who sometimes work two jobs and rarely see their kids.

The Architects of war don't want to encourage enlisted men & women to leave for a better education/life. Who would protect their corporate interests?
