Politics – Sen. Barack Obama pushed back Friday against President Bush's implicit criticism of his approach to foreign policy, condemning his administration for not capturing Osama bin Laden and blaming its Iraq war policy for strengthening and emboldening Iran.

Sen Obama's Hugs for Thugs diplomacy will not work. Terrorists are only impressed with bigger guns, and boots on the ground.
Yes, clearly. That's why we're doing so well in Iraq.
Its going a lot better than the left will give it credit for.
The administration's been playing that tune for five years now, Cat. Can it get any worse over there?
Sectarian violence only stops when the Muktada orders his people to stand down, the government's main interest is its own self-continuation, the corruption there rivals any other nation on earth, and the bottomless pit we continually pour tens of billions of dollars into shows no end in sight.
"The left"? Cat, we're talking rational people on BOTH sides, and in every country except the Red part of the US realize how bad the situation is there. The Iraqis don't even have electricity, for God's sakes, and it's been five years!
This is the kind of success no sane nation can afford.
"The Iraqis don't even have electricity, for God's sakes, and it's been five years!"
Pure baloney. People act like Iraq was some sort of highly developed nation before Saddam was taken out. Iraq is better off without Saddam, and it is getting better every day. And, yes, they have electricity and running water.

"In 2002 Baghdad had access to electricity on a near continuous basis while the rest of Iraq was limited to 3 to 6 hours daily. The U.S. government has made significant progress in improving electricity supply in Iraq and distributing it more equitably throughout the country."
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
* Repaired thermal units, replaced/ added turbines, rehabilitated the transmission network, and installed and restored generators.
* USAID has rehabilitated or added 1,292 MW of generation capacity, through new generation, maintenance and rehabilitation work, to the grid through 42 projects, supplying power to approx 8.5 million people.
* Repaired the 400 KV Khor az Zubayr-Nasiriyah transmission line.
* USAID and partners rehabilitated or constructed 25 distribution substations in Baghdad to improve the distribution and reliability of electricity for more than two million residents.
* Over 240 Ministry of Electricity officials, plant managers, and engineers underwent USAID training to properly operate and maintain the power plants.
There's just no way to win. Those who stand against the Iraqi government have no real leader, and they live there. We can't make a strategic move to advance on the capital and make the ruler surrender--we did that five years ago. What are we trying to do there, except taking a purely defensive stance?
Agreed, cat. But to give it credit, they'd have to admit Bush wasn't all that wrong. Never happen. They're on their "Obama as the Second Coming" kick right now, peace could be declared tomorrow and they'd still find something to snivel about...
