The article suggests what Obamas motives might be but I agree with meeting Cuban and Venezuala leaders. But meeting with harborers of known terrorists absolutley not.

Who has said anything about meeting with known terrorists? Obama hasn't.

If you look at what has happened in both the past, Northern Ireland comes to mind, and what is happening currently, FARC agreeing to meet with the Columbian government there is reason to believe that even meeting and discussing the issues with known terrorists can have productive results. One thing is certain though - if you aren't willing to talk with an open mind NOTHING is going to happen!

There has behind the scenes talks with the trhee countries I've mentioned for years and nothing has happened except North korea has the bomb. I see your line of logic however.

What McCain, and those that support this senile old elitist, either fail to understand or deliberately refuse to admit, is that we have had, with a few exceptions, basically the same foreign policy stance since the end of WWII and it's simply not working all that well any longer. It's time for a new forward thinking approach for it's quite obvious that our current foreign policy of refusing to talk to other nations, for whatever reason, is beginning to look very tired and frayed around the edges and opening discussions with those nations we have refused to talk with in the past is certainly a good start.

You have to ask yourself "What is the worst possible thing that could happen by opening discussions?" and once you realize that the answer is nothing you have lots of room to move forward.
