McCain Adviser's Work As Lobbyist Criticized

Politics – Longtime uber-lobbyist Charles Black Jr. is McCain's man in Washington, a political maestro who is hoping to guide his friend, the senator from Arizona, to the presidency this November. But for half a decade in the 1980s, Black was also Jonas Savimbi's man. His lobbying firm received millions from the brutal Angolan guerrilla leader.

That's because his soul was bought and paid for by them quite some time ago!

I'm starting to wonder if McCain actually has anyone on his staff who hasn't done work for foreign governments, dictators, and warlords. This makes what, the 6 or 7th high level adviser in his campaign to have proven links now?

If this is how he runs his campaign, im scared to see what his cabinet as president would look like.

McCain has been lobby-ized; he works for the corporate dictators and is even married to one. They don't need to play by the rules; they have their own. If you thought Bush was bad ... this guy is even more dangerous. He is walking around with indescriminate hatred left over from another war that should have never been.

And this was the best his party had to offer? Christ on a crutch just how stupid can one idiot be. Evidently Le Muffette Jr knows no bounds.

Move-On and Democracy for America have been making a lot of noise about this. They are putting together ad campaigns and everything. Hopefully this will become a big thorn in McCain's side. (that is if anyone is paying attention)

A rather strange crew of associates and advisors for somebody that advertizes himself as "Mr. Clean".

McCain sounds more and more like Bush III each day.

All lobbyist should be ban from speaking or dealing with any congressional leader and any government employee! As long as there are lobbyists, this will continue to promote ethical dilemmas.

Thanks Mark!

As despicable as many of them are they do have the right to speak their piece, but that is all they should be allowed to do - period. Any and all gifts, in whatever form they may possibly take should be banned and every elected official should be required to publicly list every contact they may have with any lobbyist, regardless of how short of trivial it may seem.

If the lobbyists can't sell their viewpoint with words alone the shame on them!

As long as there are people like this, and Karl Rove, allowed to interject themselves into our political system, we will never have another admin for the people.

"As long as there are people like this, and Karl Rove, allowed to interject themselves into our political system"

I agree n2n, but at some point the American people have to get a voice and shout out that they want all of this BS to stop.

Slowly the "good ole boys club" is dying off and government is changing people, but, citizens need to get more proactive in writing their representatives and telling them to get rid of these people. Do some house cleaning!!!

Bad thing is that once a Government employee you have job protection for LIFE! To bad this doesn't apply to average American people.

EE, you're right -- it's almost spooky how comments sometimes disappear completely immediately after the "submit" button is hit while others re-appear after time lapses, but far from where they were intended! The "Edit" function sometimes chooses not to work, and corrections when re-submitted sometimes don't show.

It's almost like pot-luck posting sometimes! Ha!

I have a feeling his cabinet would look like a who's who of the Lobyyist hierarchy. The amazing thing is with the American people rejecting the Bush mantra of unquestioned support for the corporation how can they offer a candidate that makes Bush look like he DID care for the little guy?

"John McCain's campaign asked prominent Republican consultant, Craig Shirley, to leave. Shirley doubled as a consultant to McCain and the group Stop Her Now, a 527 group barred from coordinating its activities with presidential campaigns.

Shirley's firm, Shirley & Bannister Associates, was paid more than $22,000 by McCain for work to win conservative support. Stop Her Now has paid the firm more than $155,000 since 2007 for public relations work.

Shirley's background is in some of the hardest hitting Republican attacks on Democratic politicians. He was a member of the team that tarred Michael Dukakis with the "Willie Horton" ads in 1988, and he helped organize the press conference with Paula Jones. In 2004, his company did public relations work for a movie attacking John Kerry called, 'Stolen Honor.'"

"Sen. John McCain secured millions in federal funds for a land acquisition program that provided a windfall for an Arizona developer whose executives were major campaign donors.

McCain, who has made fighting special-interest projects a centerpiece of his presidential campaign, inserted $14.3 million in a 2003 defense bill to buy land around Luke AFB in a provision sought by SunCor Development.

The Air Force later paid SunCor $3 million for 122 acres near the base. It was the highest single land transaction of the private lots purchased by the government ââ;¬" three times the county's assessed value and twice the military's estimated value.

McCain's campaigns have received $224,000 since 1998 from donors connected to Pinnacle West, including $104,100 for his current presidential run."

"McCain's help for Keating came after Keating had donated $112,000 to McCain from 1982 to 1987, had taken McCain and his family on nine trips, including three to the Bahamas, and had gone in on a business deal with McCain's wife and father-in-law.

In 1982, Keating held a fund-raiser for him, collecting more than $11,000 from 40 employees of American Continental Corp. In 1983, as McCain contemplated his House re-election, Keating hosted a $1,000-a-plate dinner for him, even though McCain had no serious competition. When McCain pushed for the Senate in 1986, Keating was there with more than $50,000. By 1987, McCain had received about $112,000 from Keating and his associates.

The Arizona Republic revealed that McCain's wife and her father had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center."

take a look at Charlie Black's client list from his years at BKSH and you'll see that, at best, Charlie Black is an amoral money grubber, and that's dangerous.

and unlike Wright or Ayres or Hagee, this guy actually has a potential president's ear, which makes him even more dangerous, and makes McCain's judgement even more questionable.

So why would some one like McCain who has for years talked about reducing the lobbyist influence hang out with some one like Black who has lobbied for some of the dirtiest of all crooks and dictators? Black says he only lobbied for dictators

whom White House supported ...hmmmm..and when White House pulled the plug on Marcos he stopped. Didn't he have his own conscious to lead him in his decisions to lobby? It is funny that many of those people have ended up as a failures. Why would McCain hire some one like Black who has led so many to fail and doing so fail his own conscious as well? Does America need a leadership to help it fail? Does one need a tutor to get an F? McCain shows no leadership in any issues that he declares it important to him and to America.
