Three-time melanoma survivor John McCain appears cancer-free, has a strong heart and is in otherwise general good health, according to eight years of medical records reviewed by The Associated Press.

  Why did he only allow hand selected reporters 3 hours to review the records?
  If the report is so glowing - then why not release them to the public?

      it says "...a small group of reporters reviewed 1,173 pages of medical documents that span 2000 to 2008 over several hours in a conference room at a resort just outside Phoenix."
      then there's this:

      in it, it says that 20 reporters were given 3 hours to look at the 1173 pages of documents, in addition to the 1500 pages of documents that were from his last run for the presidency.
      so, 3 hours to look over nearly 2700 pages of documents along with 19 other people.
      wow. something's up. obviously.
      cause if nothing's wrong, why the time limit?

  I wrote about John McCain's memoir Faith of My Fathers in "Reading John McCain" and "Reading John McCain, part 2." One of the things I learned from the book that I had no reason to mention in those posts is that Senator McCain's grandfather died at age 61, and that Senator McCain's father died at age 70. I've been a bit surprised, as Senator McCain has put his remarkable 95-year-old mother on display during the campaign, that no one has brought up his father or grandfather.
  Senator McCain is himself 71. Senator McCain's age raises not only the question of mortality, but also the more difficult issue of age-related performance. Thomas Sowell tackles the more difficult issue in "McCain's age."

  so 30%-33% said McCain's age was a factor? wow. that's a lot of people. that's three times as many people who said race or gender was a concern.

This is good news indeed. Being in contention good health is a strong point. I want a healthy president as far as we can tell no matter who it is.

I'm glad to hear that Ol' John is healthy. He is going to take on the biggest job in the world next January and he needs to be healthy just to endure it.

It hasn't been that long since the age factor was a concern for me, but I'm now of the opinion mentioned by one of the doctors in the article that age shouldn't be a factor in these times. This health report has helped put my mind further to ease. Another thing that has changed my views about older people serving as world leaders has been watching the Pope in recent times. The man is in his early 80s, though I don't recall the exact age, and he's doing all this traveling and has turned out to be a very active and influential Pontiff. So, I guess the point is don't judge a book by it's cover.
