It sounds crazy at first. Amid dire reports about the toxic political environment for Republican candidates and the challenges facing John McCain, many top GOP strategists believe he can defeat Barack Obama and by a margin exceeding President Bush's Electoral College victory in 2004.

If McCain did this he'd win at least 400 Electors. He won't, because he believes the cause is just.

Exactly, he`s an idiot with no clue about world politics, diplomacy, terrorism, economy, hc, ss, or anything else that matters to working class Americans.
He`s out-of-touch before he even steps up to the starting line.
Thanks to Bush/McCain policies, America is getting left behind, we`re being marginalized in the ME. Even our allies such as Maliki are telling us not to show up at the negotiating table because we have such morons in charge.
They are negotiating, while our rw cheerleaders are sitting on the sidelines spewing hate and war speeches.
McCain is like a child who refuses to learn any lesson already taught. He has to repeat every mistake for himself because he is a stubborn, spoiled brat who thinks he is somehow special and above everyone else`s rules, and his own when they don`t suit him.

He has. It's called victory.
Not as fast as retreat and surrender but much more desirable in the long term

Can this election end any sooner? It's sick to watch these three numb skulls run around on Saturday Night live when they should be focusing on the issues.
I think if any of the guys/girls win it will be based on which one is more popular on youtube. Not which one can stop illegal immigration. Or which one can help our economy. Nope, those are the small issues. What they said in a speech and how they looked on SNL is far more important than actually picking someone with a couple of good ideas.
As a country we are in trouble if these are the best candidates we can come up with.

> All McCain has to do to win is to propose a policy for ending the war in Iraq.
Ah, no. Not even close.
McSame has the flip-flopping issue, the adultery issue, the ethics issues, the spend like a drunken sailor issue, the diplomacy issue (lack thereof), and so on.
The guy is an elitist, racist weasel who thinks he is entitled to be President and will say or do anything to get there. He has no clue what to do if he does get there, except out-Bush Bush.
He is the last thing America wants.
Yeah, and I`m sure Dole`s handlers predicted a blow-out too at some point.
Wishful thinking.

The war in Iraq is ending and most likely as it continues to wind down on both the insurgent and terrorist fronts it won't be much of a factor in November.

If you do the state by state math, it's quite easy to see McCain holding all of Bush's 2004 states and picking Wisconsin, Michigan and possibly Penssylvania. Of course, he could train wreck, too, and lose in a landslide, but that is much less likely with the inexperienced King of Gaffe as the Democratic nominee. If the Democrats were to nominate Hillary I'd say it was pretty much over, but in this strange year the Republicans have nominated one of the few GOPers who can win and the DEmocrats are about to nominate the potentially worst candidate they've had since McGovern. I don't count Mondale as a bad candidate because NO ONE was going to beat Reagan that year.

Obama is so much like Carter in so many ways that I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins by a landslide.

Since Lyndon Johnson's 1964 blowout of Barry Goldwater, the Democrats have controlled the Presidency and both legislatures three times - Johnson in 1964, Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Bill Clinton in 1992. In all three cases, the Republicans regained one of the branches in short order.
The Republicans have only themselves to blame for their current malaise. But anyone who thinks that the Democrats will effect positive change with control of all three branches doesn't know history.

So true. For example, one of the Democarts many promises in 2006 was that they would do something about gasoline prices in they took control of Congress. What they didn't tell anyone was that the something that they intended to do was to sit on their hands while gas rose from $2.50/gal to over $4.00/gal.

"however, I believe with Obama we have a chance to break the cycle of failure.."
I don't.
Obama-Hillary was a fight between the Democratic far left and its centrists, and the far left has won.
