    FTA:

Obama has asked Jim Johnson, former head of mortgage giant Fannie Mae, to begin research on potential candidates for the No. 2 slot on the ticket, media reports said. Johnson performed a similar task for Democratic presidential nominees John Kerry in 2004 and Walter Mondale in 1984.

Here is a list of some possible Democratic vice presidential candidates, in alphabetical order:

Very impressive list! I like the fact that Jim Webb is a possible candidate too, he would be great for veterans.

      * Joseph Biden, 65 - The senator from Delaware, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, is a respected foreign policy expert who would give Obama authority on the issue. But Obama might not want to add a second senator to the ticket, and could be looking for a fresher face to reinforce his message that this election is about change and the future.

Wesley Clark, 63 - A retired Army general and former NATO commander who ran unsuccessfully for the presidential nomination in 2004, Clark is a supporter of Hillary Clinton who could help rally the party and provide a boost on national security issues. But he did not run a strong campaign in 2004 and he would be unlikely to generate much enthusiasm among party activists.

Really glad to see Biden at the top of that list, myself. That's just the ticket.

Y'all are leaving out Chelsea Clinton for VP. Obama would get 3 Clintons for the price of one; and the Republicans wo't be allowed to ask her controversial questions. How's that for "strategery"?

If Senator Obama picks any of these candidates, he will stand a very strong chance of recapturing the White House for the Democrats in November. I would far prefer any Democrat compared to Senator McCain.

Interesting list! It is going to have to be a candidate that the people are going to want as the Vice President! These past 7 years has made the VP slot just as important as the Presidential slot!

      Thanks not2 good find!

"These past 7 years has made the VP slot just as important as the Presidential slot!"

Only because he was allowed to grab power that was previously the responsibility of the president. I would bet if truth was known, he did things that Bush didn't know about first hand.

I personally prefer Cynthia McKinney. Her "heart on her sleeve" approach is a great balance to Obama's word parsing speeches. She is from the South, probably his weakest area, and is of course female.

          Obama/McKinney 2008!

N2N - Thanks for answering a question I asked some time ago..... Personally, I feel that Wesley Clark would be a good choice purely down to his military & European knowledge base.

All being said.. this the MOST IMPORTANT decision he and the party has EVER HAD TO MAKE.. you can divorce a wife or husband if it doesn't work out... but this one he's with for the duration..

pick the wrong one and you don't get elected.. Gore picked Lieberman... instead of Graham.. which would have handed him Florida..

Kerry picked Edwards.. they were tooooo much alike.. in looks and unfortunately for Kerry appeal...

even getting elected... if you pick the wrong one.. now you have an anchor around your leg..

Cheney has actually been perfect.. you know he's running EVERYTHING.. but Bush doesn't care.. he's content just being prez... and getting to do all the cool stuff prez gets to do.. Cheney and Rove are busy pulling the strings and counting the MONEY.. our MONEY..

I fully agree with you Will1313.

However it has been my personal experience that 'all Presidents' have someone pulling the strings and 'counting the money... our money' and I think that Sen OBama will do the same, if elected, while getting to do all that cool Prez stuff.

Although I prefer either The Hill or Gen Clark; all I have to say about his choice is good luck..

I take it you guys didn't like my "Cynthia McKinney" idea lol

Okay, seriously, the best VP candidate for Obama would be either Ed Rendell, Tony Strickland, or Bill Nelson. Each is from a Battleground State (PA, OH, FL). I think Rendell would be the biggest help.

Richardson is not the answer. He might tilt New Mexico, but he does nothing to help in Battlegrounds. Strickland, Rendell are best, followed by Bill Nelson. No one else helps as much in keys states, not even Webb or Gen. Clark.
