Now you might have hit on a winning plan. I have always thought if you replace these people at least after their second term they haven't learned to steal a lot of tax money yet, and they would fear being replaced so much they would try harder to please their constituents.

The only way to accomplish that is to vote them out of office after one term if they are not doing the job. Why give them a second term for ineffectiveness? Only when they begin to realize that the voters want results now, willl they begin to listen to them.

I don't like this outcome at all but I don't see that the Democrats have a lot of options under the circumstances. The public gets angry when there's gridlock and they're angry when elected officials capitulate (to use Russ Feingold's characterization). This is the government that AMERICANS voted for and AMERICANS are, to a large extent as responsible for the gridlock as the Congress. I'm sure we all love the idea of those who represent our issues sticking to their guns, standing up for our positions, digging their heels in, etc but we also know that there are penalties both for us as a country and to the candidates. With all due respect, what would you have them do given the reality of the system set up by our founding fathers (which I happen to think is pretty great, btw)?
