Just some food for thought. An economy that is broken, a war that is unwinnable by conventional definition, global warming and enrgy costs spiraling. On top of that our government is broken. They tell us what we need. They tell us what we want. They continue to do exactly whatever they want regardless of public opinion on the matter. Can anyone point out the silver lining in all of this?

          Thanks jovial; good article.

          FTA:

"The Bush regime has created enormous hatred and disrespect for the United States. A recent worldwide poll found that George W. Bush ranks at the bottom of world leaders as one of the least trusted, along with US Pakistani puppet Musharraf and the Iranian president, Ahmadinejad ..."

Considering that even centrist Republicans and Democrats have recently opted to characterize the Bush regime as an "imperial" presidency, I feel quite justified for my comments that I made back in 2006, when I called Bush a nazi.

I described him that way for several reasons: waging an unjustified war, unwarranted militarism, defying the Geneva Convention, using secret POW camps, obstructing justice, dismantling constitutional rights, suspending Habeas Corpus, and use of toture.

With his politicization of the justice department, globalization, corporate fascism, and corrupted elections, we have lost our representative democracy.

When I made those commments on Propeller (Netscape) back in the winter of 2006, I got a lot of nasty emails and comments from the neocons. One of my most favorite neocons on Propeller (sarcasm) replied, "Hmmmm if Bush is Hitler then he needs to fire up the furnaces,,,, seems to be lots of cord wood around LOL."

That made it clear to me that these last defenders of Bush are the kind who support hate groups like Stormfront and the KKK. There are certainly no mainstream supporters of Bush remaining;just weak-minded sycophants, disloyal profiteers, and bigotted sociopaths.

"If Americans return a Republican regime, Americans will validate the right of the president to violate with impunity US and international law. Americans will validate the use by the president of the United States of deception and lies in order to initiate wars of aggression, aggression that is a war crime under the Nuremburg standard established by the US. Americans will validate the infringement of US civil liberties in the name of "safety" and "national security." Americans will disembowel the US Constitution and leave themselves at the total mercy of the government."

            Craig Roberts is unfortunately right.

The United States is on its way to being THE worst "regime" in the world, surpassing even the despicable, horrible 'government' of Zimbabwe.

there's a scene in the film - a man for all seasons - that burned itself into my memory:

Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!

More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?

Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!

More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat?

This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down (and you're just the man to do it!), do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?

Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

Craig Roberts is a fool ...

It's no wonder you guys can't get any traction in your criticisms. You somehow feel compelled to distort something to the point that it becomes ridiculous.

Whose worse The United States of America or Zimbabwe????

Okay ... now come back with your rationalization for such a statement.

Spade: "...we have lost our representative democracy...."

Yes, that's the infuriating heart of the matter.

The thing, I think, that's proven to be most demoralizing over the last extremely demoralizing eight years is the sense that the country is being run by a kind of junta--a take-over government that answers to know one but itself (and the lobbyists and other special interests who help steer its policies).

And we've felt powerless to stop it's destructive course.

                Poulenc,

And add those that vehemently support this corporate dictatorship and then try to label you and me as unpatriotic for exposing the truth. That's the icing on the poison cake.

"It is the duty of the patriot to protect his country from the government."

Rather, we are beginning to become aware of the fact that "representative democracy" is a non sequitur. Always has been. What we have is the working class appointing elites to serve the elites. And once they have gotten our votes, they have everything they need from us for the next four years. At the end of the four years, they put on their bullsh!t hats again and lie to us, and we vote for them, knowing they are evil, but rationalizing that one of them is slightly less evil.

It is a disgrace. Let's have an end to it.

When it comes down to it dictators are usually cowards. They have others do their bidding and bullying for them. They end up dying in cowardly ways; think of Hitler or Saddam Hussein. Hitler committed suicide in a bunker and Hussein was found in a frog hole and later hanged.

I wonder what is to be said of Bush who has the lowest approval rating of any President. He's attempted to destroy our form of government with "legal opinions" and "signing statements."

He left us with so many fires to put out, it will hard to concentrate on bringing him to justice. Our country's legs are wobbly. We can hardly stand up.

Don't be fooled into thinking Bush is an anomaly. He is just less skilled in selling the program to the American people.

Clinton was much more skilled. Clinton waged war, deployed depleted uranium weapons, assaulted the Bill of Rights with "anti-terrorism" legislation, gutted welfare, and people lapped it up.

                        Same agenda, better marketing.

Perhaps the base problem is putting too much faith in government. As Nancy Pelosi has said, Washington DC is the city of the "status quo" and there is enormous presssures not to change.

If Obama wins, very little will change, but the media will tell us things are getting better.

Psychology of the country may be more important than the facts.

Here you have a country thats peak short term potential has been actualized. From even the majority of the proletariat and the middle class citizens including likewise vested interests, all in disunion deeming that such transient policies directly inhibit their universal well being.

When trying to promulgate these concerns to any direct or indirect congenator can only be perceived as in vain of any of the 'officials' or non-officials, whom will only repudiate all such individual attempts of subversion.

So never mind counting the calories on your big mac, there does exist such universal mammoth concerns.

Whether a Stale Mate in silver lining or a golden age of change, eventually only one will give way...

OK, so I'm gonna go against this....

To ask what regime is more lawless than the US (although the article did mention Zimbabwe) is pathetic in the extreme...

Just as well the author of this diatribe doesn't live in the Congo, Sudan, Iran, Afghanistan etc etc etc....

This is crap, sunk as such....
