FTA: "Alhurra's reporters and commentators operate with little oversight. Alhurra's president, Brian Conniff, does not speak Arabic and is unable to understand anything broadcast on the radio and television networks he is paid to manage. Conniff has no journalism experience and worked previously as a government auditor. His news director, Daniel Nassif, grew up in Lebanon and has no background in television. Before coming to the network, he helped promote the political aspirations in Washington of a Lebanese Christian former general.

So? That's chump change. The little mongoloid chimp has wasted trillions in Iraq to create a safe haven in Iran for terrorists. Mission accomplished on the war on terror.
Old, senile, drooling John will be able to top that, just give him the chance.

Yes, I don't understand the endless call to cut public broadcasting, which produces some of the most well-researched programming in the world. But anything truly educational and not in lock-step with Christian fundamentalism is framed as "leftist" these days by Bush and his base, which is ridiculous.

ridiculous and effective. return fire with fire, sent $ to DNC to remove entrenched creationist evangelical hard right sociopathic republican senators.
if swiftboating works, then that's the game we are playing. Let Obama take the high road, meanwhile, remind the swiftboters they are supporting their 8 years ago swiftboatee. Then remind them of their treasonous vice president, and autistic level president and their senile nominee.

i realize this is a joke... but as a pretty liberal guy myself I have to give the benefit of the doubt here and agree that 'they ain't all bad.'
i mean if we are going to bring democracy and freedom to the middle east we have to expect that people who disagree with us, even hate us, will use that freedom just as we will. if we set up a network that edits anti-american content than we are not bringing them freedom at all, and we are combating their anti-US slant with pro-US slant. I happen to think that the US is a pretty damn good place and that an open an honest dialogue, good and bad, makes that even clearer and favors us in the end.
Didn't us liberals jump on the pentagon for forcing papers in the ME to run pro-US slanted articles? Didn't we jump on the D dept. for intentionally dismantling Al-Jazeera infrastructure?
I don't think it is fair of us now to get mad at the Admn. for ENCOURAGING freedom of the press.

ok, GW is a dipsh*t, no question. But he encourages a station to be independant so that a fair view of american can be seen. they take advantage of their newly awarded freedom by offering a sounding board for differing viewpoints. And in the countries we are involved in over there, the general consensus is that america is bad, right or wrong, that is certainly not a view held only by a fringe minority. I think that if GW pulled funding from the most pro-american station there ust because they ran a few things that dont protray us well or fairly then liberals (like myself) would be critical of him then too.

Its not entirely that the station is bad or aors anti-American rhetoric but the management is totally clueless about what is happening. THey are Bush appointees with no experience doing what they were appointed to do AND no grasp of the language. There is a difference bertween airing anti-American stories that are news and occuring and creating anti-American stories (kinda like swiftboating which is why I figured Bush and Co didnt react negatively to this happening).

HB, I just have to repeat it again, it's so completely republican values. Vote republican, vote loyalist incompetent republican shills into policy making positions.
And FEMA, and FDA, and energy policy by oil barons, and financial regulation by mortage broker, and oil prices by speculators, and war by unilateral zionist neocon fantasy sold to corporate greed mixed with evangelical christian zionism. Vote republican, Mcbush Senile Senator for the next sock puppet.

Well... you all know he meant well...LOL!
The Administration said ixnay to any aygay interpreters...
I suppose they were worried about literary flourishes, or perhaps hyperbole...LOL!
Anyway, they got what they got. The usual bad intel, or in this case, no intel.
As a matter of fact, a lack of intellegence is the hallmark of the Bush Administration.
Can I get an "AMEN!"?

Free speech? What are you talking about? Spending 500 million per year for an middle eastern version of Fox news is not free speech, it is a waste of taxpayer money.

I have a new slogan and will debut on Huffington Post in the new few weeks. It is inspired by a NJ Radio station that successfully used it to get rid of the corrupt administration NJ Governor Christie Whitman who later went and screwed EPA in Bush Administration.

Do we need any more evidence that the keystone Kops are running this country? Haven't seen any of the usual Bush apologists weigh in on this one. Oh, I know. Fox News didn't report it.
Reply-

Lincoln851 month, 3 weeks ago
I would wager that Fox does cover this in the near future. That has been my experience in what I have observed from that network. Even Hannity bashes Bush from time to time. Keystone cops running the country?....I think that would also apply when Clinton had the opportunity to get Bin Laden but decided not to. A decision that cost over 3,000 lives in New York and now even more in the middle east. And if you blame Bush for all that, Gore or even John-Teresa-Heinz would have done the same thing.

Clinton could have had bin Laden if our military leaders had not decided to inform Pakistan aheaad of time about the attack. Bush could have had him as well. But many do not really want to stop bin Laden because they could have never justified the war in Iraq if bin Laden was captured or dead.

Bush remains a very confused individual. Incapable of accepting advice, direction or counsel, he will continue to deligate appointments to federal departments, agencies and activities, assisted by the clueless pink-cheeked millionaires he surrounds himself with. Of course, it helps to start with something other than a mental BLANK PAGE! The incompetence is historic, the unfitness is sickening and the waste fraud and abuse is now legendary! Thanks for helping us spread the "word", Mr. Bush. Where's that "line item" veto when we need it?

Here is a list of Bush legacy with his economic stimulus and growth tax cuts of 2001, Iraq war which not only emptied the treasury in to $trillion debts but also cut off all oil supply from that country:
CompUSA going out of business, Sprint Nextel closing 125 locations, Movie Gallery closing 560 movie rental outlets, and bankrupt Sharper Image shutting down 90 to 180 stores.
Other retailers shutting down shops are: Ann Taylor, 117 stores; Eddie Bauer, 29 stores; Cache, 20 to 23 stores; Lane Bryant, 150 stores; Talbots, 100 stores; Gap, 85 stores; Foot Locker, 140 stores; Wickes going out of business; Levitz going out of business; Zales, 105 stores; Disney, 98 stores; Home Depot, 15 stores; Macy's, 9 stores; Pep Boys, 33 stores; Ethan Allen, 12 stores; Wilsons, 158 stores; Pacific Sunwear, 228 stores; Bombay Company, 384 stores; KB Toys, 356 stores; and Dillards, six stores.
Where are the Republican dumb idiots, 30% support & 45% who want hypocrite McCain for status quo?

Isn´t it ironic? There is tax-payers´ money spent to take influence on the media of the arab-speaking world, and the result is a horribly improfessional radio- and TV-broadcasting that can only communicate an image of the US that is negative or even ridiculous and with the people responsible for it having no knowlegde neither of the country nor of its language! Perhaps Mr. Bush should have taken some lessons in media management from Silvio Berlusconi. I am sure, then, the plan would have worked much better ...
