        Yes, it is a war on terror. But everybody else wants to keep there head in the sand and ignore the problem. And you would figure that 9-11 would be a wake up call. It was for a minute! If you need to forced to defend your own country after an attack, I personaly, don't want you in my Army. You have no pride in your country, no honor in your heart and no courage in your soul.

        With that said,I am all for the draft and have been LONG before 9-11. My dad, uncle were drafted. It makes people appreciate what they do have. But with all the crap the Democrats have said, how are they going to convence the public? If they do, not only are the democrats but the anti-war public that buy this are hypocrites. This war needs to end, and end to our advantage. Nothing less! If it takes a draft, so be it! If I get re-called to active duty, so be it!

          Codi - I appreciate your passion for your country and your service. However, we are not involved in a 'war on terror'. That claim is debunked by anyone with a little understanding of our Constitution. We are involved in an occupation. Iraq was not an imminent threat to us or our country with their navy that resembles a coast guard and their pipsqueak military. Our military budget is over 145 x larger by comparison.

          If Iraq was a threat to our sovereignty or freedom, you can bet your bottom dollar that the lines at the enlistment stations would be miles long. The Democrats don't have to convince the public of anything, nor do the Republicans who have spoken out against this 'war'. Hypocrites? Hypocrisy is our foreign policy.

          The decision to attack them, while treating some of region's worst regimes as allies, shows the deadly hypocrisy of our foreign policy in the Middle East.

            Iraq was a problem that should had been corrected in 91. With all the reports, evidence ,interviews of what Saddam INTENDED to do AFTER the sanctions were lifted. This problem was going to be corrected sooner then later. Libya gave up its WMD program without a shot fired. Iraq, Afghan, Somilia, Phillipines, Bosnia, North Africa is ALL part of GWOT. Get over it, and except it. The media did a good job of seperating Iraq from GWOT.

            Our buget is nothing compared to ONE MAN with a CAUSE and a BOMB. Let's hope it won't be nuclear!

              'The war on terrorism' will never, and can never be won, much like the 'war on drugs'. Where ever there is some form of oppression there will always be some form of terrorism.

              9-11 caused the war drums to beat, what caused 9-11? Any rational person will conclude it was our foreign policy. So, back to hypocrisy.

              Consider Saudi Arabia, the native home of most of the September 11th hijackers. The Saudis, unlike the Iraqis, have proven connections to al Qaeda. Saudi charities have funneled money to Islamic terrorist groups. Yet the administration insists on calling Saudi Arabia a "good partner in the war on terror." Why? Because the U.S. has a longstanding relationship with the Saudi royal family, and a long history of commercial interests relating to Saudi oil. So successive administrations continue to treat the Saudis as something they are not: a reliable and honest friend in the Middle East.

The Clinton administration quickly accepted his new leadership as legitimate, to the dismay of India and many Muslim Pakistanis. Since 9/11, we have showered Pakistan with millions in foreign aid, ostensibly in exchange for Musharaf's allegiance against al Qaeda. Yet has our new ally rewarded our support? Hardly. The Pakistanis almost certainly have harbored bin Laden in their remote mountains, and show little interest in pursuing him or allowing anyone else to pursue him. Pakistan has signed peace agreements with Taliban leaders, and by some accounts bin Laden is a folk hero to many Pakistanis.

                  Musharraf, unfortunately, appears to have learned how to work our system, much in the way a career welfare recipient has learned to do the same. The perpetual welfare recipient promises to look for a job. Musharraf has promised to look for Bin Laden. Both are terrible investments of American taxpayer dollars, however with Musharraf, its been an astonishing $10 billion loss over the last few years. But it is even worse than that. With his actions declaring martial law, and dismissing the justices of the supreme court, he is to the rest of the world, and to Pakistanis, a wildly unpopular, power hungry, brutal military dictator. The perception by most is that we are propping him up, perception is what will fuel the anger. My great concern is their anger towards Musharraf's military regime will be targetted towards his enablers - the United States.

                    This is the problem with our government involvement in the internal affairs of other nations. Our friend one day is our enemy the next. And all our friends' enemies become our enemies. How many times have we armed BOTH sides of a conflict because of this? There is little for us to gain from this policy, and simultaneously a lot of trouble we get ourselves into. It is not a rational or intelligent way to interact with the world.

                    Terrorist threats on US interests may be more likely to originate from Pakistan.

                      We were placed in the difficult position of either continuing to support a military dictator who has taken some blatantly un-Democratic courses of action, or withdrawing support and angering this nuclear-capable country. What did we do? "Reviewed Pakistan's foreign aid package" and asked Musharraf to relinquish his military title and schedule elections.

                      By the time he complied with the requests of the White House sufficiently to continue to receive his "allowance," courtesy of the American taxpayer, his mission would be accomplished. A more friendly Supreme Court would be installed and enough of the opposition party would be jailed or detained to assure an outcome of the elections that would meet with his approval. All the while, our administration lauds Musharraf as a trusted friend and ally.

                      So much for a War on Terror. So much for making the world safe for democracy.

                        When we look at global situations today, the words of our founding fathers are becoming more relevant daily. We need to understand that a simple, humble foreign policy makes us less vulnerable and less targeted on the world stage. Pakistan should not be getting an "allowance" from us and we should not be propping up military dictators that oppress people.

                        Peace can be achieved only when self-determination operates freely in all nations. "Peace plans" imposed by outsiders or the UN cause resentment and seldom produce lasting peace.

                        The simple truth is that we cannot resolve every human conflict across the globe, and there will always be violence somewhere on earth.

                I know this was years in the making. But I still don't believe we deserve what we got. So, we need to show them that we are serious. You turn airplanes into cruise missiles, you will pay for it. Terrorist acts against the U.S. will be costly to you. If you harbor terrorist it will cost you. Don't treat this as a police issue, it is an act of war. An the U.S. will use its war machine to destroy you and your organization.

                This also opens a new issue. We need to find and use our own source of oil. Stop sending billion to countries that in turn give it to terrorist groups. Dry up the money, it will stop.

              Iraq may have been a problem, but the US can't go and occupy every country it has problems with. As Mr. Cheney clearly explains in the video below, there were very good reasons why the US did not go all the way to Baghdad in 1991.

                If it is a war, it should be easy to tell who the enemy is, right? So who is the enemy? There are terrorists in Pakistan; that's a fact. Is Pakistan an enemy state? Should they be attacked? The hijackers lived in Germany and the US. Were they harbored by those countries and should those countries be considered enemies?

                Also, you say that it needs to end, and end to the advantage of the US. What needs to happen for this war to end? I mean how will you recognize when the war is over? How will you verify that there are no more terrorist left in the world? Suppose you eliminate them all, and then new ones crop up a few years later. Do you need to restart the war, or would it just be the continuation of this one?

                We encouraged an uprising, then backed away from them. And allowed for Saddam to put it down, I know ,I saw it! If we would had supported them, the dirty work would been done for us.

                Saddam had 12 years of jerking the U.N. around with those sanctions, that were being violated.

                Saddam was waiting to get the sactions lifted, he had the people, knowledge, infrastructure, and money to re-start the WMD program. He admitted it to his FBI interrogator. He used these weapons before, and what we are overlooking is , Saddam is replaced by his son(s). They have a new WMD program maybe a stockpile and this whole cycle starts over again.

                So far yes, we are better protected. But it could be allot better if we would profile people,instead of seaching 95 year old ladies in the airports. Israel does it, no one complains about it!! We could learn something!!

                    When the terrorist group can only deliver taped messages. There attacks don't cause a huge economic downturn in the country. There attacks are foiled because of inside information. Then it becomes a police issue and not a military issue. Like the way the police infiltrated the klan.

          It's not a war on terror. It's a war OF terror, you just have to look at it from another side.

          Terrorists kill innocent people to achieve their objectives. The war kills innocent people to achieve its stated objectives... but it doesn't kill terror. It's not even really a war on terrorists, because if it were, it would know no national boundaries.

          The war in Iraq is a war against Iraq. Iraq, which supposedly suffering under Saddam Hussein, so they killed him is now suffering under the United States.

Also, read the 60 Minutes interview with the FBI interrogator that interviewed Saddam before he was given back to Iraqi control. Again the whole interview, They can say it better then I can.

                        Saddam played a shell game for 12 years, afraid that if he said he had no WMD's Iran would invade. Food for oil, was a scam, he bribed members of the U.N. trying to get the sanctions lifted. He supported terrorist,paying the families of the PLO suicide bombers, he did harbor key terrorist leaders, some connected to AQ, he did not obey the cease fire from the first Gulf War. He violated 17 U.N. resoluions, he could had stopped the second Gulf war if he was forth coming of what he did/ did not have. The U.S. had no way to confirm or deny what he had or did not have because all inspectors were forced to leave in 98. And when they came back, again shell game. He intended to re-start the WMD program after he got the sanctions lifted. That is the short version.

              Sad but true, the war in Vietnam was started with the help of a lie, just like the war in Iraq. Also sad but true, that thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of locals lost lives and limbs in both wars for nothing.

              It's sad to compare notes on who sacrificed more. The important question to me is whether the cause was worth it, and in both of these cases, my answer is: no.

  Charles Rangel, a Democrat, seems to be the only one calling for a draft.

  The quote, "...We're in the early stages of what I would consider the Third World War..." in the lead-in was actually made by Newt Gingrich, not John McCain. This is just typical of radicals expecting people to not read the story.

  Nothing but the typical, convoluted reasoning of Adriana Huffington and the likes of George Soros.

      I think the vast majority of it is 'baseless mud' from BOTH sides. I don't like McCain because he's Conservative and I'm Liberal. McCain supporters don't like Obama because he Liberal and they're Conservative.
