Hagel says he would consider an appointment in either party but he says definitely that he has more against McCain than he does Obama.
So do most of the American people.

That may be true but I don't think his heart has been
for a very long time. I am a progressive/liberal Democrat,
but I have always had a soft spot for Hagel. I have seen
Bush display his "concern" for the war and our vets and
I want to go take a shower. Hagel's war recollections
show a man who KNOWS the gravity of what has been asked
of our troops. That's why it was SO frustrating when he
DID vote with the pack. IMO it's not too late for
redemption - I'd never rebuff an attempt to do some
good for the country........and I think Hagel could.

I don't know; remember how he got into trouble for wearing some tribal headpiece a while back?
If he goes around with a hat with a huge feather in it, it might be interpreted that he is a 'robin hood' sympathizer.

First Gordon Smith, the Republican Senator from Oregon, reaches across the aisle and joins the Obama bandwagon, and now Hagel says he likes Obama better than McCain (who doesn`t, but for him to admit this publicly, wow!).

I am glad to see Hagel vote for the person who he feels is the better man. I do not agree with the party system because it promotes party partisanship. I vote for the man/woman regardless of the party they represent.

He would be a great Defense Chief. I am glad he is rejecting the John "hypocrite" McCain who is offering 4 more years of the "worst foreign policy blunders" since Vietnam.
I hope that those dumb voters who still think of voting for John "hypocrite" McCain, take the lead from Chuck and drive the scum bag with Bush face mask out in November.
It needs the best of a person like Chuck Hagel to clean up the Pentagon after 8 years of dictatorship.

Good for him! More Republicans need to follow suit.
We're watching the ones that voted with Bush- they're the first ones we will get rid of when they come up for re-election.
