Sen. Chuck Hagel declined to endorse John McCain, but said he would consider serving as secretary of defense in a Barack Obama administration. Hagel criticized McCain and said his disagreement with Obama is not as big as his differences with McCain over Iraq.

Hagel says he would consider an appointment in either party but he says definitely that he has more against McCain than he does Obama.

So do most of the American people.

I can't wait to see the candidates' running mates. I'm not sure I have more against McCain, but I'm not excited by either candidate.

If you can't get excited about any change from Dumya, you have to be brain dead!

Hagel's voting record is near 100% with Bush.

That may be true but I don't think his heart has been

for a very long time. I am a progressive/liberal Democrat,

but I have always had a soft spot for Hagel. I have seen

Bush display his "concern" for the war and our vets and

I want to go take a shower. Hagel's war recollections

show a man who KNOWS the gravity of what has been asked

of our troops. That's why it was SO frustrating when he

DID vote with the pack. IMO it's not too late for

redemption - I'd never rebuff an attempt to do some

good for the country........and I think Hagel could.

The problem is that there are MANY Republican who feel the same way as Hagel (oppose Bush policy), but don't have the b@lls to stand up to Bush and McCain AGAINST those policies.

Hagel would be a HUGE feather in the cap of Obama.

I don't know; remember how he got into trouble for wearing some tribal headpiece a while back?

If he goes around with a hat with a huge feather in it, it might be interpreted that he is a 'robin hood' sympathizer.

First Gordon Smith, the Republican Senator from Oregon, reaches across the aisle and joins the Obama bandwagon, and now Hagel says he likes Obama better than McCain (who doesn`t, but for him to admit this publicly, wow!).

Hagel decided not to run for re-election because he knew Johanns would wipe him out in the primary. This is all sour grapes.

Jo mama, may be he no longer cares and is speaking his mind? I know that a politician speaking his mind would be as rare as cheap gas but it is possible. What you call sour grapes some would call the truth.

I am glad to see Hagel vote for the person who he feels is the better man. I do not agree with the party system because it promotes party partisanship. I vote for the man/woman regardless of the party they represent.

He would be a great Defense Chief. I am glad he is rejecting the John "hypocrite" McCain who is offering 4 more years of the "worst foreign policy blunders" since Vietnam.

I hope that those dumb voters who still think of voting for John "hypocrite" McCain, take the lead from Chuck and drive the scum bag with Bush face mask out in November.

It needs the best of a person like Chuck Hagel to clean up the Pentagon after 8 years of dictatorship.

Good for him! More Republicans need to follow suit.

We're watching the ones that voted with Bush- they're the first ones we will get rid of when they come up for re-election.

Hey, Lincoln had lots of the other party, and Bill had Cohen as Sec of Defense, a repug! While Dumya only had old, crony, sycophant Repugs!

Agree. It's Bush version 3.010 vs. Bush version 3.011
