Tainted Tomatoes? Enough is Enough! »
Posted by: hurr1 2 months agoIt's time that Congress get serious about implementing real food safety reforms and pass comprehensive legislation. Congress is writing bills right now to fix our broken food safety laws, but the powerful industry lobby is already lining up to oppose significant reforms.

What a load, laws passed by congress won't make our food sources any safe but more expensive. Is that what you want?
If you want to keep your food safe there are the rules your mama gave you, wash all produce, even if it says it's been washed. Cook food, especially meat, thoroughly. Keep your cutting boards, cabinets and sink clean and wash everything thoroughly after using. Following these rules will keep you and your family safe. This advice has worked all over the world for centuries.

Wolfie, you idiot, its beyond what your moma told you! If the Repug Congress would have done something back when people died from the bad brocoli, then we wouldn't have the problems we have today. Back then the nongovernmental, consumer food protection agencies recommmended a standard tracking system, but the Repug Congress and Dumya believe that commerce best manages itself - NOT SO when people are dying and hundreds sick!
Heck even now, if the generally Dem led Congress could get a bill through the obstructionist Repugs in the Senate, Dumya would negate its effectiveness through a signing statement for government agencies to ignore the law!
How do you live with your unscrupulous, souless self, Wolfie?

Hobe, just born yesterday?
Its the former Repug Congress and Dumya who put us in this position. The former Congress which has at least gone back to a full five day work week, has been trying, but its slim majority in the Senate can't overcome a bush veto and can't even get a Bush cabinet member to testify since the Bush Justice department won't back any Congressional contempt charges/subpoenas. Then a Bush veto is backed by the Senate repugs! If a law makes it through Dumya negates it either with a signing statement or fails to budget funds for execution of the act! How corrupt and un-American can repugs be?
It was the Repug led Congress that failed to fund any of Bill Clinton's anti-terror requests too, as a final comment on the Repug hypocrisy!

Wouldn't it be great if a congress took their oaths of offices seriously, and worked to repeal all of the unconstitutional laws instead of adding to them? I honestly don't remember where the constitution gave the government the power to wash our fruit for us.
Really. I don't need to be babysat by the government. A number of businesses around here have taken advantage of the tomato scare to remove tomatoes from their sandwiches. Think they'll put them back when it's over? I don't. They can still charge the same for the sandwich. On the bright side, my wife's allergic to tomatoes, so the more places that remove them, the more places she can order sandwiches!

It was the Repug 109th Congress headed by Hastert who went to a 4 day work week because big business lobbyists were doing all their work, writing the laws of the land... so we got exactly what the Repugs let business do! Now, the Repugs come back and say how these same folks that wrote the laws for the repugs are fighting the dem Congress to keep their evil, un-American ways!

The problem is people craping and then working with food without washing their hands. What laws could possibly fix that?
