Hot Mic Catches Jesse Jackson Hammering Obama; Jackson Apologizes »
Posted by: pagey 2 months ago328 Comments Report this Story
Apparently unaware of a hot microphone, Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr., founder and president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, made a crude and disparaging remark along the lines of wanting to rip Obama's genitals off in reference to how Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., might be alienating African-Americans with various moral instructions.

I'm sure it won't if you and the rest of the rat pack can help it. YOu will be screaming like banshees about this for days, as if it has anything to do with Barack Obama, rather than Jesse Jackson being on the defensive about an issue that hits too close to home for his liking! After all, he's the one with the "baby mama drama."
All this shows is that Barack is not afraid to tackle the tough or touchy issues, regardless of who may not want to deal with it. He's a stand up kind of guy with a lot of strength of character - that's why he's so the opposite of what you guys look for in a presidential candidate.

Desperate Messo?
You mean as desperate as the Dems were when Trent Lott said something 'bad' then apologized and STILL had to step down.
AS Desperate as not using a computer being a MAJ issue?
Or as desperate as you guys coming in and defending all these guys, even after decrying the right for 8 years of doing the same thing. My the tables have turned,,,, it's much more fun on this side of the fence now you can spend years running cover for YOUR team.

You should seriously seek psychiatric help! What the heck are you talking about, Slate?
So many of you have a nasty, vicious, vengeful nature. You are unforgiving, lack compassion, unobjective, partisan to a fault, jealous, fearful, biased and you can't take any criticism at all. Grow up! (You is meant collectively, not you as an individual, however, if the shoes fits...)

Ladies and Gentlemen, please allow me to introduce you to my non-judgmental 'born again' Christian friend Cushi. Thanks Cushi, not only have you told me I'm going to hell and evil, know you want to be my psychiatrist before you send me into the everlasting pits of fire. Thanks hun.
Try this shoe on for size, what I said was true. Jesse, 'nads' Jackson said what he said and as usual, you are coming in and defending him just like you do any Democrat. And once again, when a Dem says I'm sorry it's always enough. To err is human is human to forgive a republican, that's against Democrat 'doctrine'.

Paranoia is not a pretty sight! I have NEVER told you you were going to hell ( are you scared you might be?) because I don't make God's decisions for Him. Unless you are Jesse Helms reincarnated, I have not said you are "evil" (are you?), but I am telling you that you are posting things lately that make me believe you need psychiatric help! It's not unusual to be in denial about it, though, Slate.
Oh, and Slate, everybody's judgmental, even YOU. We have to make decisions on a daily basis using our best judgments, so I'll accept the judgmental charge. P.S. And I forgive you. Isn't that democratic of me?

"AS Desperate as not using a computer being a MAJ issue? "
As prevalent as computers, computer technology and computer-aided intelligence is, not being able to use a computer is disturbing in and of itself. What it says about his general ability to learn new things and adapt to new situations is even more disturbing.

LOL it's not like McCain never uses them, he's like most people over 35, they can tweak them and write email and use word. If McCain can't he has people to do all that stuff along with laying out his PJs at night, cooking and all the other things. I don't think any President will be going into the main frame and making a go of it to fix something, they have techs for that.
But I can see where texting starlets has it's advantage.

Cushi- "He's a stand up kind of guy with a lot of strength of character..."
"I am proud to stand with Senator Dodd, Senator Feingold and a grassroots movement of Americans who are refusing to let President Bush put protections for special interests ahead of our security and our liberty. There is no reason why telephone companies should be given blanket immunity to cover violations of the rights of the American people - we must reaffirm that no one in this country is above the law."
Obama 2/12/2008
Yesterday Obama voted in favor of immunity.
How do you reconcile his statement, inconsistent actions and your belief re: his character?
Really, I'm interested in your thoughts on immunity and Obama talking with forked tongue and how it influences your vote.

omg, NO!!!! Joe, the "conscience of the Senate" will do whatever is necessary to further promote ....JOe!
Never a huge fan, when he voted for some legislation that was bad for CT because he went jogging with Clinton that morning, I lost all tolerance.
I think he cost Gore the election (not that I ever wanted Gore) by hedging his VP bet and running for his Senate seat at the same time. And we idiots in CT reelected him anyway! The dems tried to kick him to the curb, but then in typical "best for Joe" fashion he ran as an indy and we reelected him AGAIN!!!
Just goes to show WHY gov't pays so little attention to what the public wants -- once you are in, it's nearly impossible to be out until you no longer want the job.
Oops, you shouldn't have gotten me started...lol

Cushi commented on Obama being a stand up guy and his strength of character. I pointed out an enormous, 180 degree, change in position over the past few months. Said quick and rapid change in position seems inconsistent with strength of character or being a stand up guy. But hey maybe you judge people differently than I do.

I have not researched FISA fully and I cannot speak to the Senator's decision to support it. I do, however, feel that his judgment has been remarkably good thus far, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt of knowing what's he's doing.
If he becomes the next president, I am sure he will institute changes when and where he feels they are needed. He is an expert in constitutional law, so perhaps he understands the law better then the average bloke like you and me.
One thing that might have influenced his decision, imho, is that some companies may balk on giving up vital information if they feel vulnerable to being sued or prosecuted. It may be that he believes he should leave well enough alone for the time being. Plenty of time to build more confidence among his constituents once he's in office and people settle down.

It's a for Obama. This is all about doing things the old way and Obama said no. It's time people start taking steps pass where we are now,I have been listening and i don't think this will be a backlash in the black community. The only person getting hurt by this is Jackson, it was a bad move on his part some even say silly! His own son is puzzle by the move.

Don't you get it?? Obama is whiter than white- his maternal family is old -time mid-western white American & that is who raised him. His paternal side is pure African both by racial purity & heritage.
He does not have the cultural heritage of the American black, he is more middle class American white than most of the people on this site.
His pigmentation has not forged his political thought any further than how he can exploit it.
I do not say this as an endorsement of McCain, but rather as a dose of reality to all you Pollyanna's out there who think a wondrous new world will be opened by this eloquent charlatan.
Too bad the only other choice is" ball bearings on my ass, turn anyway the wind blows" McCain

I couldn't disagree with you more, ace. I thin Obama has a good grasp of his roots on both sides of the equation. He certainly could not have known, when he refused lucrative positions to work in the southside of Chicago, in the poorest neighborhoods with some of the most difficult and daunting of conditions, that it would catapult him to where he is today.
I have to wonder about your attitude as much as Jesse Jackson's. You know, blacks are often accused of behaving like crabs in a barrel - as soon as one starts to get ahead, the others reach out and pull him down. I hope you are not playing into that stereotype.
Obama, as much as any one else, deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. For a young black man, he has shown much responsibility, excellent judgement, maturity beyond his years, a sense of fairness, openess, ingenuity, compassion and a desire to be of meaningful service. For this, you seem to feel he should be kicked in the teeth???

Slate, for the love of God, be FOR REAL!! The fact that Obama is considered a "black" man by the vast majority of Americans is factual. Therefore, what he has achieved is VERY significant! It flies in the face of those who are ALWAYS putting the black man down and stereotyping who he is and how he behaves. It belies those who love to say that the black man is lazy, uneducated, unfaithful, uncommitted, selfish, irresponsible, always trying to make a fast buck or seeking a hand out...and so on and so on.
Barack Obama is breaking down barriers and making history, and he's doing it as a black man with multi-racial roots and a willingness to embrace all cultures as a result. That, my dear Slate, is HUGE!!!

I don't have too much interaction with real low-life types or gangbangers, white or black.
As a community college instructor, I do deal with economically disadvantaged students of all colors -- as well as many black men who are professors, instructors, administrators, business owners, etc.
As a general rule, I find that the black male students are no more nor no less likely to be irresponsible than the white, hispanic, middle eastern, or believe it or not, Asian students from poorer backgrounds.
Most of the black men I know are responsible, hardworking and successful.
So, who are all these people who are "ALWAYS putting the black man down" and how come all these people fought their way past them?
Chances are really good, if you're not where you want to be, it has more to do with you than with whitey.

Yeah I hear that he's good looking, articulate and most of all very clean too! All very good attributes for a 'young black man' huh?
Progressives can't help but bring up race, religion or gender. Progressives have separated everyone by this or that to make them 'special' that they can't just say he has done well for a young man. His blackness is who he is, but as you don't happen to see, his blackness did not hold him nor his wife 'down'. In fact, he will join a club soon that only a handful of 'AMERICANS' have the honor of belonging to, so we can now lay off the notion that da man is holdin folks down?

His African blood makes him neither better nor lesser than any man that has held the office before him. Though it makes him the 'first' man that wasn't white (a good thing actually and very historic) it does not elevate him to the level you sycophants want to elevate him. It makes him another Democrat that happens to be half black and half white, In the end he will be measured on what he accomplishes or mucks up while in office not his 'blackness'.

Apparently, you weren't aware of the circumstances involving it. The conversation was not private. It happened at a public event at a lectern with a microphone turned on. That isn't private.
But, you must think it's alright for Jesse to lie about his true opinion of Obama in the name of political expediency. You can bet Jesse isn't sorry about what he said, only that he got caught saying it.
Bill O'Reilly is airing the entire rant on his show tonight, according to media reports. I'll be interested in reading the transcript as will many others. Yes, it was a Fox News mic that picked it up.

As a practical matter, either Barack Obama or John McCain is going to be the next president of the United States. What purpose does it serve, then, to cast a vote for someone else? If the person you want to be president stands a snowball's chance in he double l of winning, then fine. But that is not the case, so it is as good as throwing away your vote.
My son does not plan to vote for either candidate, and I've said the same thing to him. If you don't want either candidate, you may as well just sit at home and not bother to vote at all. Why go through the motions for the same result?

Unfortunately, your attitude seems to reflect that of the majority of the people and because of that, we are doomed to the two party system with the two parties (which are nearly indistinguishable) we've got. If everyone I've met who claims they are libertarians would actually vote for a libertarian, it would become a viable party. Ditto for the Green party.
The only way things will ever change in this country is if we, the people change it.
But as long as our battle cry is "throw the bums out -- but oh, not MY bum!", incumbents are invincible and NOTHING will ever change.
Vote out ALL incumbents!

Looks like Jessie extremely jealous of Obama. The little jab he gave at the end of the "n_ts cut" line gave the 'appearance' that Jackson didn't have a slip of the tongue, he is eat up with fury and envy. Jackson for years has been the top leader in the black hierarchy of of American politics now this young man, little known, steps in, promoting a new message to the black community. Obama's message in comparison to Jackson's message could make Jackson feel like Bill Clinton. In the spot light from time to time but who cares?

I have not considered anyone as a leader in the Black community since the loss of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X.
All of the others who I may have even considered were either too old to carry on, or, similar to what happened after Jesus was crucified, the sheep scattered!
Jesse Jackson and a few others gave lip service to the cause, but that is all. The media propped them up as spokespersons for the black community and gave them the hype because they were making the most noise, but I suspect most blacks felt and feel the same as I do. We have been leaderless for quite some time.
I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, though, because it has helped many people to think for themselves instead of following blindly behind someone else.

Nice try, but the truth is the truth, period. People will attempt to shade it, refine it, re-define it, etc. There's a reason why the phrase came into being, "that's the unvarnished truth!"
Truth is pure, but people will taint it, distort it, and twist it. That's what you call "spin." Spin is not truth, even if it may contain a tiny morsel of it.
